Norvan FTW on the trail...

Comfy fit, ran well, and love the orange color. Ample support on the inner/outer foot and easy on the toes. Only issue is that heel could use more cushion, especially for a heel striker like myself.

Disappointed, these are not it.

Anyone writing positive reviews of this shoe has not given other trail running shoes from other brands a chance. The tongue is incredibly thick (why?), they don't fit to size, rather disappointing to look at, and what's with the crazy color blocking options? Bring back and build upon the LD2s, the current line feels like they're being designed by people that don't actually run... As someone so heavily invested in your brand for many years, it's time to be ahead of the curve not 3-4 years behind it when it comes to footwear. Every new version is a completely different shoe... still not a "go-to". These feel miles below premium. The soft upper makes my foot feel like it's floating around. Just not it.

Solid Shoe; Good updates from last year's model!

I've run, walked, and hiked, in these shoes on road, crushed limestone gravel, mud, and technical mountain terrain. Overall, I put in about 50 miles in and, compared with the LD3s, these feel like a very different shoe. The toe box is a little roomier, the tongue/sock is redone, and the heel cup feels like it more comfortably hugs my heel. Overall the changes for me feel like a step in the right direction. I prefer a roomier toe box and less of a drop, but the stability and responsiveness of this shoe over rocky terrain is very impressive. The tongue fabric is considerably thinner and I have to pull it up my more where it runs up my ankle to emulate kind of a built in sock, which rubs against my sock/feet, but does not cause any issues. I've had other longer tongues that dig into the skin. This really helps to keep debris out and I feel it hugging my feet. Well done on ensuring this isn't an issue. The lace garage in this tongue is really nice and a bit deeper than the one from LD3 (I didn't measure but it feels deeper). It feels like it really houses my laces much better! Overall a solid job, besides my personal preferences on what I like in a trail running shoe. They do run a little big, so I had to size down a half size from what I normally wear for running shoes.

Stable shoe, good grip, but just not for me.

I've put about 25 miles on these shoes and find them to have good ground contact and a comfortable upper. If you are someone who doesn't like the banana shaped shoes like the Sylan, the LD4 might be worth a try. My main gripe with these shoes is that they are too rigid for my running style. I prefer shoes to have a bit more bend to them. Like I said, not a bad shoe! I would just prefer to run in the Sylans. Note: the LD4 run a little big, so I suggest going a half size down from your normal size.

Hi there. Thanks for the thoughtful review! It is great to hear the Norvan LD 4 is working well for you in terms of ground feel and fit. The stiffer platform is designed for long-distance stability, but we get that some runners prefer a more flexible ride. We also appreciate the sizing note, and we’ll pass that feedback along to the team.

A new Norvan model

The new Norvan LD4 feels like a completely new model with good features! The Vibram sole is extra sticky and overall feels sturdier than the LD3, which makes them better for running on softer surfaces, aka dirt and grassy trails. These seem to run bigger than previous models, and love the addition of the laces pocket!

Great improvements on an already great shoe.

The attention to detail and R&D to take the LD up another notch is clear, this isn't just a rebrand of the LD3. I already have over 100km in my first pair of LD4's and they are holding up great, aside from a little mud they look like they just came out of the box. I love the feel of the toe box, a touch roomier than the LD3 but still feels locked in. Tongue wraps the upper foot for a dialled fit and helps to keep debris out. The grip and stability is amazing especially on wet and greasy rocks/roots. Glad to see the lace garage in the tongue made it onto the LD4, remains one of my fave features.

Love the Norman LD 4!

I love the Norvan LD 4!  I've been using them for about 3 weeks now and the wider toe area adds balance and comfort.  The tread feels solid over muddy west coast trails;  From the beach to the rocks, through mud puddles and over slippery roots they have done it all with ease!   I'm digging how lightweight they are and the tongue pocket to hide the laces is a great touch.  I'm very happy:)

Why I Run in the Norvan LD 4

I’ve been running in the new Norvan LD 4s for a few weeks now, and I’m genuinely impressed. The balance they strike between stability and cushioning is spot on. There’s enough softness underfoot to absorb impact on long runs, but they still feel responsive and snappy when I pick up the pace. It’s like they’ve managed to blend comfort and performance without sacrificing either. One thing I really appreciate is how secure they feel. The fit hugs my feet just right—snug without being tight—so I never worry about slipping around inside the shoe, even on uneven terrain. And the grip? Solid. Whether I’m on dry hardpack or navigating slick, muddy trails, the traction holds up really well. They’ve quickly become my go-to trail shoe for pretty much any condition. If you’re looking for a trail runner that’s versatile, dependable, and built for distance, the LD 4s are definitely worth checking out.

Excelent Shoe!!

I am very happy with this shoes, it is one of those shoes that you can do everything with them. From technical trails to running on open trails, if I had to choose only one pair of shoes it would be this one. I loveee! that they have lowered the drop is more stable, for trail running do not need so big cushioning, is the perfect point: light, comfortable and good grip. The only thing that could improve for next year, I would like that the toe of the shoe was 1 or 2 mm wider for races over 50km, the length is perfect. Good job Arc'teryx!! :) Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

Technical long distance mounting running shoe. I enjoy the creative colors. I got the Soulsonic Fluidity shoes. The built in garage for your laces is clutch. I definitely don't want to be tieing my shoes again once the run has started and I don't want to put some many knots that I can't get them off after a run.

Almost Perfect.

Shoes are beautifully constructed, well built, and aesthetically pleasing. Those looking for a light weight and fast shoe will appreciate the LD4. I had to return because shoe lacked stability in the inner heel and caused pronation the previous version did not. If the heel construction is fixed, shoe will be a 5/5. I still love the LD3s but this shoe is different.

Digne héritière des LD 3 ! Ouf !

Continuez.

Dialled in fit -light weight

I went with the recommended half size down and found the fit to be perfect, Length wise i have a bit of extra room so no toe bashing. The stretch tongue hugs the mid foot without being tight , allowing for quick changes of direction on technical trails without slippage inside the shoe. The build quality is excellent , it makes the shoe look like it would be heavy , but it's far from it . Almost feather light in hand and on foot. The midsole is cushioned but responsive and the Vibram sole needs no further comment. The lace garage adds a touch of class. let's face it, Shoe lace bows spoil the aesthetics of even the best looking shoes. Compared to other high end trail running shoes , this is understated class in design and practicality. Bravo! Arcteryx.

A new shoe

For sure the LD4 is a completely new shoe. The sizing is a little bit bigger than LD3, not very much so I am keeping the same size as for LD3 for longer runs and more comfort for my toes downhill. But you should try them on before you buy. The sole is not so much cushioning anymore, I liked the LD3 more that way. The toebox feels a little bit thighter. The LD4 is letting in more air, making my feet colder in zero degrees (C) running-weather but will for sure be better than LD3 in summer. The shoe feels better after a few runs, while LD3 was comfort right out of the box. The grip is the best and you could trust this on everything from ice/snow to slippery rocks. Total 4/5 stars, compared to the LD3. Great shoe but I will keep my old LD3 for comfort days 🙂

Third pair of Norvans

45km in and very pleased. Currently running on trails with mixed dirt and ice. Grip is solid and shoe feels very stable yet still plush. The new tongue design fits like a sock around your foot and keeps debris out. I went for the non-GTX version this time around and my feet are still nice and dry.

Solid shoe 🤙

As an owner of the LD3s (which I like a great deal) the LD4s definitely feel “faster.” However, the dampening in the heal area seems to fall short of the comfort compared to the LD3s. Your foot feels more secure in the LD4 with the sock-like liner materials. LD4s feel more streamlined and fitted in the toe box area, which is good as long as you don’t have have very wide feet.

Great overall

Already have the Black Norvan LD 3 GTX for Fall/Winter which are great! Loving the 4 for Spring/Summer, especially the new canvas/arctic color way. They are lighter and indeed have a wider toe box. Overall, these are awesome!

Good

Shoes are good but not great. Nice snug fit around your foot and great weight and tread. IMO the shoe fell short of its predecessor the Norvan 3. Notably the true to size fit, wider toe box, and overall cushion on the foot made the Norvan 3 a superior shoe. That being said Norvan 4 will do me just fine on the mountain's and trails on Vancouver island

Upgrades to my favorite long distance shoe

This shoe's predecessor, the LD3, has been a loyal companion for me across the full range of mountain activities, from 50-mile trail runs to technical outings like Owen Spalding on the Grand Teton. I'm really happy to report that this shoe is an upgrade across the board, retaining the best qualities of the LD3 and changing a few minor things that really elevate the shoe to the perfect mountain companion. This includes the comfier ankle cushioning, better lace garage positioning, more durable and substantial midsole foam, and slightly more technically oriented toe box. Rubber is trustworthy out of the box, and better with a little break-in. I have noticed that the "climbing zone" under the ball of the foot to the toes is slightly more rockered than the LD3, and thus a bit less natural when scrambling, but this tradeoff pays off when putting in long mileage, as the shoe has a more natural stride. One important note: this shoe runs a full half+ size longer than the LD3, so size down a half size for long distance fit and maybe a full size for performance fit, depending on your choice of sock.

LD4 is awesome!

Awesome general trail runner! Huge upgrade in durability from the LD2 and an improvement in fit for me over the LD3. This is my normal use running shoe for around Squamish trails. It sticks well to rocks and roots and can handle all the mud Squamish throws at it. Super light and very durable. Love em!

LD 4 Life

The new LD4 is my first Arcteryx shoe and it’s great. The sock lining makes it fit like a glove. Very light weight. Made for the trails and great traction. I would highly recommend this shoe to anyone looking for a shoe with cushion and traction.

Send it on the technical trails

Fantastic shoe, especially for technical trails. The Norvan LD 4 has amazing traction and sheds mud really well. I really love the design and the attention to detail that Arc'teryx brings to their products like the stretch tongue, the overlays on the lateral side and the wide lug spacing that allows the shoe to grip and shed mud. I'd reach for this shoe for any sort of rocky, rooted, technical trail up to a half marathon (for my preference). The cushion is more than expected for the stack height and overall a really comfortable shoe. This would be a great shoe for hiking and casual wear also since it looks so great.
