Question 1

Are these snows good for running in the snow, on ice or in slush?

River, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi there, we're glad to hear that you are interested in our footwear! The Sylan 2 Shoes could work for running on packed snow, ice, and light slush, but they were not specifically designed as a winter running shoe and may provide limited traction on those surfaces. If your primary use will be running in winter conditions, we would recommend considering the Norvan LD 4 GTX Shoe for added weather protection or the Norvan 4 Nivalis GTX Shoe, which was designed specifically with winter trail running conditions in mind. We hope this helps you find the best option for your runs!

Question 2

Is it water proof? If not do you have a gtx option?

Helio, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi Marky, thank you for your question! No, the Sylan 2 Shoes are not waterproof, as they do not feature a GORE-TEX membrane. At this time, we do not have a GORE-TEX version for this shoe. However, our team is constantly revising our footwear offerings, and we recommend subscribing to our newsletter to stay updated on new product drops and exclusive offers. For reference, all of our GORE-TEX footwear will have "GTX" in the product title: https://arcteryx.com/us/en/c/mens/footwear.

Question 3

Hello, does this shoe run true to size?

Seymour, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi Dave, thanks for reaching out. We've heard customer feedback that the Sylan 2 Shoe fits true to size. To find the best fit, we recommend comparing your foot measurements to our size chart, as this will give you the most accurate guidance for a comfortable fit. We hope this helps!

Question 4

Waterproof?

Luna · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thank you for your question. The Sylan 2 Shoe is not waterproof, as it does not feature a GORE-TEX membrane. It’s designed as a trail running shoe built to move fast and maximize efficiency, with a rocker-shaped midsole and responsive foam for energy return. If you’re looking for a waterproof option, the Norvan 4 Nivalis GTX Shoe could be a great fit. It is a mountain running shoe that features a GORE-TEX upper and an over-ankle gaiter designed to help seal out snow and water. We hope this helps!

Question 5

How aggressive is the shoe compared to the Vertex Speed? I have the Vertex Speed and like it very much but sometimes it feels a bit stiff when running fast down harder trails. Is the Sylan 2 a bit softer?

Helio · Accepted Answer

Hi Felix, great question! Compared to the Vertex Speed Shoe, the Sylan 2 is generally less stiff, and has a more cushioned underfoot, especially when you’re moving fast on firmer or less technical trails. The main reason for this is the midsole: the Sylan 2 uses a supercritical foam that’s softer and designed to give you a smoother, more propulsive ride. The rockered shape also helps you roll through your stride more easily when running downhill or picking up speed. The Vertex Speed Shoes have a firmer, zoned midsole (with a stiffer forefoot and protective elements) that’s designed for precision and stability, especially on rocky, technical terrain. In terms of feel, the Vertex Speed will feel a bit firmer and stiffer, particularly when you’re running quickly on harder-packed trails. The Sylan 2 will generally feel softer and more dynamic. We hope this helps!

Question 6

Do they have a wide toe box ?

Seymour, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi Mikey, thanks for reaching out. The Sylan 2 Shoe features a standard D width and does not feature a wide toe box. We recommend trying them on to ensure the fit feels comfortable. We hope this helps!

Question 7

Are these slip on?

River · Accepted Answer

Hello Alfie, the Sylan 2 Shoe is not a slip‑on style. It features a lace‑up design that provides a secure, adjustable fit for technical performance on the trail.

Question 8

do they dry fast?

River · Accepted Answer

Hello Trea, the Sylan 2 is built with a lightweight, engineered woven upper that dries relatively quickly, especially after light rain or splashes on the trail. Like any footwear, if the shoe is fully submerged or saturated, it can take a bit longer to dry, but the minimal‑absorbency materials and breathable construction help it shed moisture faster than traditional running shoes. It’s designed to stay comfortable and responsive across variable conditions, including those moments when the trail gets a little wet.

Question 9

Hi, how does it compare in terms of fit and foot lock with the Norvan SL4 and the Vertex Speed low? many thanks!

Seymour, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi Daniel, thanks for reaching out. Regarding the fit of the shoes, the Sylan 2 and the Norvan LD 4 feature our comfort fit, which has extra room in the toebox and still keeps your foot secure. The Vertex Speed features our precision fit, which allows for more control on varied terrain. The Sylan 2 features a knit collar and an integrated flat-knit tongue that optimizes foot containment. It also features an engineered woven upper, which enhances the foot hold of the shoe. The Norvan LD 4 features an integrated wrap tongue that helps keep the foot secure, and the lacing system on all three shoes provides a smooth pull and secure midfoot fit while preventing backslip. We hope this helps!
