We build gear that’s meant to last. An Alpha SV Jacket doesn't have a shelf life per se, but rather a lifespan measured in seasons, summits, and how hard it's being used. But often, new gear comes out that catches your eye, or maybe your existing jacket catches a snag, or you need a size change, and a lot of high-performance kits end up sitting in a closet, unused when they could still be doing the job they’re built for.

The ReBIRD™ program is our answer to keeping gear in play for as long as possible. Through repair, resale, trade-in, washing and upcycling, ReBIRD™ is a simple, trusted way to buy pre-owned Arc'teryx gear or trade in used pieces for credit. For buyers, it means access to authentic, refurbished Arc'teryx gear at a lower price point, but still performs like new. For those trading in, it means getting something back for a kit you’re ready to move on from.

This guide walks through how the ReBIRD™ TRADE-IN and RESALE programs work, what gear qualifies, and what you can expect from the program from start to finish.

What is the Arc'teryx ReBIRD™ platform?

ReBIRD™ launched in 2019 under the name “Rock Solid” and started out as a simple repair and resale initiative. By 2021, Rock Solid was gaining traction, and we saw an opportunity to expand the program beyond repair and resale, so we rebranded to ReBIRD™ to reflect our broader circular-economy vision.

ReBIRD™ not only provides a chance for buyers to get pieces at lower prices and a credit incentive for past gear owners, but also supports Arc'teryx's Science-Based Target to reduce greenhouse gas intensity by 65% by 2030. Keeping gear in active use longer is one of the most direct ways to reduce the environmental footprint of making technical apparel products. This is the core idea behind building a circular economy: to encourage consumption that prioritizes reuse over replacement.

The five pillars of the ReBIRD™ program

The ReBIRD™ program is built around five key service areas, each one addressing a different stage in the lifecycle of your gear: WASH, REPAIR, TRADE-IN, RESALE, and UPCYCLE.

WASH

Technical gear needs proper care to ensure it keeps working properly. The WASH service of the ReBIRD™ program gives your gear a proper refresh by re-proofing any GORE-TEX® fabrics and re-puffing any down-insulated products so that they continue to perform the way you need them to season after season.

REPAIR

If your outdoor adventures look anything like ours, your gear likely takes a beating. The REPAIR service restores your kit to good-as-new after rips, scuffs, or hardware damage occur, all while using the same obsessive design approach we used to build it in the first place.

TRADE-IN

Got a kit lying around in storage that’s still functional but not getting used? Trade it in at any Arc'teryx brand store or online and get 30% of the original retail price back as store credit toward something new. We’ll refurbish your gear and resell it through the RESALE program so good gear stays where it belongs: in the field.

RESALE

Every piece that comes through TRADE-IN is inspected, refurbished, and authenticated before it goes back on sale. Shopping RESALE means getting genuine Arc'teryx performance products at a lower price point than buying new.

UPCYCLE

Not everything that comes back through our TRADE-IN program can go back on the rack. Gear that doesn't meet our resale standards will get broken down, transforming end-of-life materials into limited-edition products.

What gear qualifies for the ReBIRD™ TRADE-IN program?

Not all gear qualifies for the ReBIRD™ TRADE-IN, and that's by design. RESALE is only worth doing if the gear coming through the program is completely functional, in great condition, and includes its inner product label. Every item is inspected by Arc'teryx before acceptance, and items with major stains, odours, rips, broken zippers, or missing hardware are typically not accepted.

The simplest way to check before you bring anything in is to ask yourself: Would I lend this to a friend without hesitation? If the answer is yes, then your gear is probably in good shape to trade in.

Some categories are excluded entirely, regardless of condition:

  • GORE-TEX® Shakedry™ jackets
  • Pack water bladders
  • Headwear, accessories, and gloves
  • Underwear, bras, and socks
  • Air bags
  • Harnesses and climbing gear
  • Ski boots
  • Footwear older than two years
  • Arc’teryx LEAF
  • Items with personal or custom embroidery

Unsure whether your item qualifies? Enter the model number on the TRADE-IN page, and we’ll confirm your product’s eligibility before you send anything in.

How the TRADE-IN process works

Bring your eligible, used Arc’teryx gear to a store or mail it to us. You’ll receive a credit worth 30% of the original retail price, and we’ll ensure the item gets another life. TRADE-IN is only available in Canada and the US.

Think you have items that you're ready to trade in? Here's what to do next.

Step 1: Prepare your gear for TRADE-IN

Before you drop off or ship your used gear, a little preparation goes a long way. Gear that arrives clean and ready for inspection moves through the process faster and is less likely to be rejected on something fixable.

Before you begin, make sure your gear is:

  • Washed and fully dried following the care label instructions
  • Free of personal items from all pockets
  • Checked for functional zippers, snaps, and hardware
  • Includes the inner product label
  • Packed securely if shipping to prevent transit damage

If your GORE-TEX® jacket is due for a DWR re-proof, it's worth doing before you trade it in. Durable Water Repellent (DWR) re-proofing restores the water-shedding finish on technical fabrics like GORE-TEX®. Over time, use and dirt diminish waterproof performance, so proper washing and reapplication will help maintain breathability and weather protection, extending the life of your garment before it heads into the trade-in process.

Step 2: Choose between in‑store and online TRADE-IN

In-store TRADE-IN and online TRADE-IN are both available in the US and Canada, but there are a few practical differences worth knowing before you decide which route works best for you.

In-store TRADE-IN means your gear gets assessed on the spot, there's no shipping deduction applied to your credit, and if your item isn't accepted you can take it home with you.

Find an Arc’teryx store near you

Online TRADE-IN means completing the TRADE-IN form, requesting a prepaid shipping label, and mailing your gear in. In Canada and the USA, a $10 flat rate shipping fee will be applied to your total credit. One important thing to note: If your gear is shipped in and doesn't pass inspection, it won't be returned to you.

Step 3: Submit your TRADE-IN gear for inspection and approval

Once your gear is submitted, it undergoes a professional inspection and refurbishment before it's approved for resale.

Here's what happens behind the scenes:

  1. Arc'teryx technicians inspect your item
  2. Approved gear is cleaned, repaired, and refreshed to Arc'teryx standards
  3. The item is authenticated and listed on RESALE
  4. You receive your credit once the item is accepted

Once accepted, your gear heads to Arc'ONE and other Arc'teryx service centres for refurbishment, where it receives the same meticulous attention to detail and quality that went into the original build.

Trade-in logistics are supported by Trove, a resale platform partner that helps us manage this process at scale.

Step 4: Receiving your TRADE-IN credit

Once your gear has passed the inspection and been accepted into the TRADE-IN program, you'll receive a digital gift card worth 30% of your item's original retail price. That store credit can be applied toward any Arc'teryx purchase of brand new or pre-owned gear through ReBIRD™ RESALE.

Reminder: If you trade in your gear online, a small shipping deduction will be applied to your total trade-in value. But if you trade in your gear at an Arc’teryx store, you’ll avoid the shipping deduction entirely.

Step 5: What happens to gear unsuitable for RESALE?

Not everything that's returned to us qualifies for RESALE. If you ship your gear in and it doesn't pass inspection, it will not be returned to you. If you’re unsure whether or not your gear will pass the TRADE-IN inspection, you can always take it to an Arc’teryx store where it will be inspected on the spot. That way, if it doesn’t pass the inspection, you can take it home with you.

Gear that’s ineligible for TRADE-IN will get shipped to one of our responsible end-of-life partners and does not qualify for a gift card. We work with Ambercycle for textile-to-textile recycling and Debrand for the responsible disposal of materials that have truly reached the end of their life. Where possible, end-of-life materials and technical fabric offcuts are upcycled into new, limited-edition products like totes, pouches, or one-off pieces.

Warranty and quality assurance for RESALE products

All products listed on ReBIRD™ RESALE have been authenticated, repaired, and refreshed to the same meticulous design standards as our brand new gear before they’re returned to market.

All RESALE gear is also backed by our Arc'teryx Limited Warranty for each product's practical lifespan. Practical lifespan refers to the period a piece can be expected to perform its intended function under normal use, and accounting for the materials, construction, and overall maintenance. This Limited Warranty doesn't cover damage from misuse, accidents, or normal wear and tear over time.

Environmental and community impact of ReBIRD’s circular model

Every time a piece of gear gets traded in, repaired, or resold through ReBIRD™, it's a direct contribution to reducing the environmental cost of making technical apparel.

In 2025 alone, together with our community and our textile recycling partners, we kept 47,152 items out of landfill, saved 12,275kg of waste, and increased TRADE-IN payouts from 20% to 30%. We also opened two permanent RESALE locations, one in Toronto and one in New York, to make it easier for our customers to participate in the program and circular economy.

And we're just getting started. Read more about our progress in the Arc'teryx 2025 Climate Report.
