HOW WOMEN’S HIKING BOOTS AND SHOES SHOULD FIT

Women’s hiking shoes and boots should fit tightly around the midfoot for support and stability on uneven ground and changing terrain. The toebox should feel roomy to accommodate swelling of the feet and forward sliding on downhills. When sizing be sure to account for a supportive wool or wicking sock, which can be important for comfort and avoiding blisters on long hikes, especially multi-day hikes with water crossings or in wet conditions. Compared with men’s hiking shoes, women’s hiking shoes tend to be slightly narrower at equivalent sizes (e.g. a US W9 will be narrower than a US M8, which is the same length).
