Sungjin, an established pack manufacturer based in the Bin Duong province of Vietnam makes Arc’teryx duffle bags, daypacks and trekking packs. Sungjin is privately owned and came to Arc’teryx through a longstanding relationship within the Amer Sports portfolio.

Our partnership started when we needed to expand our pack manufacturing. At the same time, the team at Sungjin were looking to move outside their comfort zone into crafting more technical designs. We offered them a product range that would expand their parameters and invested in equipment and time to train their employees.

Learning the complex techniques of molding, taping, gluing, and laminating challenged Sungjin’s employees, managers and quality control personnel.  Even our seemingly less technical bags like the Blade require a molded, embossed Arc’teryx bird-logo panel to be directly inset in the fabric of the bag. It took many trials for the Sungjin employees to integrate the panels in a way that preserved the clarity of every single bone on the Archaeopteryx Lithographica. Working with Sungjin has helped us both learn. We have now established clear protocols for many of our core processes and work collaboratively with our manufacturing partners to problem solve.

The Sungjin facility has incorporated a number of environmental sustainability measures. These include a rainwater collection system that provides sanitary water, a wastewater purification system and a paperless production line using cloud-based technology. In their exploration of utilizing new technologies, they have begun incorporating the Clo3D garment-simulation program in the early stages of design development.

Sungjin has been a reliable partner and is an important pack maker for us as we move forward.

Sungjin and Arc’teryx will keep moving in a more technical direction with our packs as Sungjin’s employees continue to increase their technical skillset. This well-run and competent company is expanding, and Arc’teryx will be with it while it does.
