Question 1

is this ok for skiing

Blake · Accepted Answer

Hello, and thank you for your question. Yes, the Proton Hoody can work very well for skiing, particularly for active resort skiing, ski touring, and other high-output days in cold conditions. Unlike a traditional insulated midlayer that prioritizes maximum warmth, the Proton is designed to balance insulation and breathability, using Coreloft™ Compact insulation and a highly air-permeable Fortius™ Air 20 outer fabric to help regulate temperature as your activity level changes. Many skiers wear it as a midlayer under a shell for weather protection, while in milder conditions it can also function as an outer layer. If you tend to run warm or stay active throughout the day, the Proton is an excellent choice.

Question 2

Will there be more colours coming out for Summer 2026?

Hi there, thanks for reaching out. While we do not have an exact date for more colours of the Proton Hoody, stock will fluctuate as we move through the seasons. New colours and updates will occur throughout each new season drop, so be sure to stay tuned when we come out with our next collection by signing up to our newsletter here: https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/email-signup

Question 3

Hi there! Im going to trek in Nepal, already have the gamma mx softshell jacket! Is this one used as a midlayer or more like a jacket?

Helio, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thank you for your question. That sounds like an amazing trip! The Proton Hoody is a synthetically insulated jacket that works best as a midlayer under a shell jacket or as an outer layer over a base layer during high-output activities. Its fitted design stays close to the body, making it comfortable to layer under an outer piece like the Gamma MX Jacket, which has a regular fit. If your goal is to add warmth under your Gamma MX, the Proton Hoody is a great choice. It will layer well and can also serve as a versatile outer insulated layer when conditions allow. Question 4

is this hoody suitable for skiing

Seymour, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thanks for reaching out. Yes, the Proton Hoody would be a great option for skiing as part of a layering system. It’s designed as a highly breathable insulation layer for high-output activities, which makes it well-suited to wear under a GORE-TEX shell while skiing. That said, we do not rate our garments for temperature as there are too many factors that influence this result from person to person, and we recommend referring to our layering guide for more tips on staying warm: https://arcteryx.com/gb/en/shop/layering-guide/

Question 5

Hello can I please get the measurements for size M : chest, waist, base width and length. Thank you

Sophie · Accepted Answer

Hi there, we're happy to provide those measurements for you. In size M, the Proton Hoody has a chest measurement of 107 cm, a waist of 98 cm, a hem (base width) of 111 cm, and a center front length of 57 cm. We hope this helps!

Question 6

What temps will this jacket keep me warm in?

Sophie · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thanks for reaching out! We don’t provide specific temperature ratings for our gear, as warmth is subjective, with factors like climate, activity level, and personal comfort all playing a role. That said, the Proton Hoody is designed for cold-weather use across a range of activities. It features Coreloft™ Compact insulation that retains warmth even when damp, and the hood includes 60gsm of PrimaLoft® for added insulation. We hope this gives you a better sense of its performance. Question 7

which is warmer the proton or the atom hoodies ?

River · Accepted Answer

Hello there, the Proton Hoody is slightly warmer than the Atom Hoody. The Proton is designed for active insulation with a more breathable construction, while the Atom provides lightweight warmth with a focus on versatility. If you need more warmth during high-output activities, the Proton is a great choice!

Question 8

Is the core loft 80gsm throughout, or less in the sleeves? The proton heavyweight is 100gsm in torso and 60gsm in sleeves., so regular proton has more filling in the sleeves?

Sophie · Accepted Answer

Hello, great question! The Proton Hoody features 60gsm insulation in the sleeves and 80gsm in the body. While the sleeves have the same amount of insulation as the heavyweight version, the body has slightly lighter insulation compared to its heavier counterpart. We hope this clears things up!

Question 9

Question 10

How would this handle cold winter weather like snow, 10 degrees? What if it was snowing or even raining? Any other suggestions?

Sophie · Accepted Answer

Hi Chris, thanks for your question! While we do not offer temperature ratings due to various factors that hinder our ability to provide a generalized rating, the Proton Hoody is a great layering or standalone piece, depending on your core body temperature and climate. For wet conditions, since it is not waterproof but rather moisture-resistant, we recommend referring to our Layering Guide and wearing it underneath a Gore-Tex shell jacket. For snowy conditions, if you plan on wearing this as your outer layer, pairing it with one of our base layers will add additional warmth. Another suggestion would be our Solano Insulated Hoody, with Gore-Tex fabric on the body and sleeves while offering warmth without weight. Feel free to explore our Jacket Finder for more options.
