Question 1

If put it in dryer for 68 Celsius, will it cause any damage or effect any functionality? Is 8 minutes in the dryer (noticed the temp then stopped the machine) long enough to cause damage?

Amelie, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello Jessica, thank you for your question. For the Gamma Hoody, we recommend tumble drying on a medium heat setting, so a brief exposure to 68°C (154°F) should be okay. Based on what you've described, it is unlikely to have caused any damage or affected the garment's performance. We would simply recommend following the care instructions moving forward to help maintain the fabric and finish over time. We hope that helps!

Question 2

When will the XS size in pink be restocked?

River, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello Catherine, thanks for your question. Restocks for the Gamma Hoody in Alpine Rose, size XS can vary throughout the season, and while we don’t have a confirmed restock date at the moment, our inventory does update regularly as new shipments arrive. We recommend keeping an eye on the product page and using the “Notify Me” feature so you’ll receive an alert as soon as XS becomes available again. If you’d like help finding a similar colour or fit in the meantime, we’re happy to assist.

Question 3

What’s best for rain?

River, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello Victoria, for rain protection, we recommend choosing a hardshell jacket rather than the Gamma Hoody. The Gamma is a softshell designed for breathability and light weather resistance, but for sustained or heavy rain, a GORE‑TEX hardshell like the Beta series will offer the waterproof performance you need.

Question 4

I’m torn between the Gamma Hoody and the Gamma Lightweight Hoody. Which one would you recommend for spring and summer mountain hiking? What is the difference in thickness between them?

River, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello Rosie, thank you for your question! Both the Gamma Hoody and the Gamma Lightweight Hoody are strong options for spring and summer mountain hiking, but they’re built for slightly different conditions. The Gamma Hoody is the more substantial piece: its softshell fabric is thicker, more durable, and offers better wind resistance, making it a great choice if you expect cooler temperatures or variable weather. The Gamma Lightweight Hoody uses the same Fortius™ stretch‑woven fabric, but in a much lighter construction, roughly half the material, which makes it significantly more breathable and better suited for warm‑weather missions where you want protection without heat buildup. For true spring–summer hiking, the Lightweight usually feels more comfortable and disappears on the body; if you prefer a bit more structure and versatility across changing conditions, the standard Gamma Hoody will feel more reassuring.

Question 5

Hello can I please get the measurements for size M. chest, waist, base width and length.

Helio, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi Duda, thank you for your question. Here are the requested measurements for the size medium Gamma Hoody Women's:

Chest Width: 105cm
Waist Width: 96cm
Hem (Base) Width: 111cm
Center Front Length: 55.8cm
Center Back Length: 67.2cm

We hope this helps!

Question 6

How warm is it? Is it comparable to the down hoody?

Luna · Accepted Answer

Hi Emily, thank you for your question! The Gamma Hoody is a versatile, breathable softshell, but it doesn’t have insulation, so it won’t provide warmth, as an insulated jacket would. If you’re looking for a softshell with a little extra warmth, but that's not a fully insulated layer, the Gamma MX Hoody is a great option. It features a fleece backer for added comfort and light warmth. Since warmth can vary by individual, we don’t assign specific temperature ratings to our garments. That said, down insulation offers the highest warmth-to-weight ratio, so even with the fleece, the Gamma MX won’t be as warm as a down hoody. We hope this helps!

Question 7

Does the Gamma Hoody have pockets? I see the Gamma MX Hoody does but no pocket information for the Gamma.

Helio, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thank you for your question. The Gamma Hoody Women's has two hand pockets, one on each side near the bottom. It does not include a chest pocket; however, the Gamma MX Hoody Women's does. We hope this helps!

Question 8

How would this jacket do for runners? On a scale of 1-10 (10 being water resistant) how well will this keep away snow / rain?

Helio · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thank you for your question! The Gamma Hoody is a versatile softshell designed for breathability, wind resistance, and light weather protection. While we don’t assign a specific numerical rating for level of water resistance, the Gamma Hoody is treated with a durable water repellent (DWR) finish that helps shed light precipitation. That said, it’s not designed to be completely waterproof, so in sustained or heavy precipitation, moisture will eventually get through. For heavy precipitation or prolonged exposure, we'd recommend a waterproof shell, such as the Beta Jacket https://arcteryx.com/shop/womens/beta-jacket-0514. The Gamma Hoody can certainly be used for light trail runs or active hikes, especially in cooler temperatures where breathability and mobility are key. However, it’s not designed specifically as a running piece. If you're looking for a jacket built with runners in mind and offering stronger weather protection, we suggest checking out the Norvan Jacket https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/shop/womens/norvan-jacket-9469. We hope this helps!

Question 9

HI, I notice it's only recommended for spring skiing in good conditions, so even in a bit of wind or getting some speed up is it wind resistant enough? Sounds like a gore tex shell is the option?

Sophie · Accepted Answer

Hi, thanks for reaching out! The Gamma Hoody is best suited for spring skiing in fair conditions. As a soft shell, it does offer a good level of wind resistance and water repellency, but it’s not designed to stand up to harsher elements like strong winds or high-speed descents the way a Gore-Tex shell would. If you're looking for full windproof protection, especially in more variable weather, a hard shell, like one of our Gore-Tex options, would be the better choice for your outer layer. That said, the Gamma Hoody makes an excellent mid-layer or standalone piece in milder conditions. And with our fall and winter collections starting to arrive, we’ll soon have more ski-specific gear available, so it’s a great time to keep an eye out. If you have any other questions or need help finding the right setup, we’re here to help! https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/help/contact

Question 10

Is the gamma jacket insulated like the atom hoody?

AnnieM · Accepted Answer

No. It is thicker than a very thin shell like the Squamish, but does not have any insulation or fleece lining.
