Question 1

Hi there, I've had a Codetta Coat for > 5 yrs. I've been washing it and using the repel treatment on it, but I've never reapplied a DWR. Is it too late to use the Nu DWR on it (i.e. will it still work?) Is there a point at which it won't work? Thanks

Rick, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello there, thank you for your question. In most cases, it is not too late to reapply a DWR treatment, even on a garment that has been in use for several years. Before applying Nu Durable Water Repellent, we recommend thoroughly washing the coat with a technical detergent, such as Arc'teryx Nu Technical Detergent, to remove dirt, oils, and other contaminants that can reduce water repellency. Once the garment is clean, apply Nu Durable Water Repellent generously and according to the product instructions to achieve the best coverage and performance. While DWR treatments can help restore water repellency to the face fabric, the effectiveness will depend on the current condition of the garment and the fabric. There is no specific age at which DWR will stop working altogether, though heavily worn fabrics may not achieve the same results as newer ones. We hope this helps.

Question 2

What is the useable shelf life of this product before and after opening for the first time?

Rick, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello there, thank you for your question. We do not have a specified shelf life available for the Nu Durable Water Repellent treatment, either before or after opening. To help maximize its effectiveness, we recommend storing the product tightly sealed in a cool, dry location and following the usage instructions on the label. We hope this helps.

Question 3

Question 4

Can this DWR treatment be used on the Gamma Lightweight Jacket and does it make sense to do so?

River, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello Tobia, yes, you can use the Nu Durable Water Repellent on this jacket. The Gamma Lightweight is pre-treated with a DWR finish, so if you’re noticing that water is no longer beading off the surface, you’re absolutely welcome to apply the Nu Durable Water Repellent. Refreshing the DWR can help restore water‑resistance and keep the fabric performing the way it should. We hope this helps!

Question 5

Can I use this to re-waterproof a tent fly?

River, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello Angie, thank you for your question. The Nu Durable Water Repellent is formulated to maintain and protect hardshells, softshells, and other performance clothing, giving them a strong water‑ and dirt‑repellent finish, refreshing colours, and optimizing the breathability of waterproof‑breathable materials like GORE‑TEX. While it’s excellent for technical apparel, it’s not designed for tents or large outdoor fabrics, so we wouldn't recommend using it to re‑waterproof a tent fly.

Question 6

Mettre le manteau dans la sécheuse pour activer un nouveau traitement déperlant appliqué peut-îil endommager la membrane gore-tex ?

River, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Question 7

Is the NU DWR compatible with other brands that incorporate DWR as baseline?

Luna · Accepted Answer

Hi Hector, thank you so much for your question! The Nu Durable Water Repellent is an environmentally friendly, fluorine-free Durable Water Repellent treatment made with biodegradable native ingredients. While we can't speak on behalf of other brands, our Nu Durable Water Repellent is an excellent option to refresh the water‑repellency of most hardshells, softshells, and other performance garments that have a DWR treatment. We hope this helps!

Question 8

Can I use this Nu DWR on my Kappa?

Luna · Accepted Answer

Hi Gunnar, thank you for your question. The Nu Durable Water Repellent is safe to use on your Kappa. It is our fluorine-free, premium Durable Water Repellent treatment; great for maintaining and protecting the water repellency of technical gear such as shells, softshell, and other performance clothing. For tips on applying DWR to your garment, check out our ReCARE guide: https://arcteryx.com/nl/en/help/product-care/protect-synthetic-insulation/. We hope this helps!

Question 9

Is drying mandatory to activate repellent? I just do not have dryer

Luna · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thank you for your question! You can certainly apply Nu Durable Water Repellent and let it air dry at room temperature, if you don't have a dryer. The solution in the Nu Durable Water Repellent activates by drying at room temperature without additional heat treatment. However, for optimal performance, we recommend putting the dried garment in the dryer, as adding heat can help improve the effectiveness of the water-repellent primer. We hope this helps!

Question 10

I bought two bottles of Nu water reppellent treatment for my gore tex coats, I also have a 2018 Norvan (shake dry ) jacket and I wonder if i can use it also on that jacket? Thanks .

Seymour · Accepted Answer

Hi Olaf, thanks for reaching out. The NuDurable Water Repellent is safe to use on your Shakedry jacket. That said, since Shakedry is made with an exposed GORE-TEX membrane, it naturally beads water and does not require any additional DWR treatment. We hope this helps!
