New Mexico High Desert 👍🏾

This is my second Beta SL Jacket. When I last bought one, it had a different name. I live in the high desert of NM. This is a desert, but a high desert; elevation 5,300 ft to 5,800 ft. Winters are 28 F low to 47 F high. The Beta SL is my outer layer, the mid layer is an Atom Vest and next to skin is a dress shirt or a base layer. Be sure to think of what you want to fit underneath the Beta SL. I got a medium, but I am 5' 9" and weigh 140 pounds. I need room for a mid-layer, base layer (next to skin) and maybe a concealed carry weapon when hiking on mountain trails. I love the Beta AR, but it is more suited for Chicago or Denver; much colder environments. Excellent fit even with one size too large and the jacket is very suitable/attractive even for around the office wear. Gore Tex is ready for New Mexico snow, sleet or rain. Very satisfied with the fit 👍🏾

This is an excellent commentary, and he answered the question for so many! It’s good to know if you have room underneath to put additional layers including a concealed carry….! And in regards to the other ignorant comment saying “what is wrong with you” for him saying concealed? Nooo, something is wrong with him for saying “what is wrong with you” etc. When hiking, going on isolated trails, you don’t know who’s lurking where and what unexpected danger that could arise, so it’s good to know one has the ample space underneath this jacket to carry and add additional base/mid layers. So kudos for the guy for saying it like it is and the reality we live in. I might just buy this jacket, looks nice and durable! lol 😃

I love everything about this jacket, from its light weight to its bomber waterproofness. I practically lived in it for a week recently while photographing bears in Alaska's Lake Clark National Park. Whether it was protecting me from rain, or allowing me to lay down in a wet marsh or on coastal mud flats to get the right camera angle, it never disappointed. The icing on the cake, is despite all that rugged use (and being stuffed in a backpack and luggage), one wash and it still looks like new.

Nice colours for man-boys who pretend to ski off-piste. Where is the Phosphorescent Orange &/or Electric blue? Aside from the colour this is an Excellent Ski/Outdoor jacket at the top level of performance.

The best technical jacket for alpine and city

This is my 3rd arcteryx shell in 25 years of hiking, skiing, on vacation and torrential rains on a bike in the city. This one is definitely my favorite given the technology innovation of the shell goretex and features for alpine sports and general city rain jacket, especially the long arms and back for cycling in the amsterdam rain. It does not make much crinkle noise and is not stiff for the protection it provides and looks good in the city too. The main drawback is the price for a technical shell relative to the competition in the outdoor market (RAB, Patagucci, Bergans, Mammut, etc)

Light and Feature Heavy

This is my new go-to shell for spring, summer and fall use. The light weight material feels like there is almost nothing on my body while still offering full weather protection. The pit zips and helmet compatible hood are what make this my favourite shell I've had over the years. I primarily use this as my hiking rain shell but also using it around town and sometimes spring skiing. I have had zero issues with its durability being a lighter option. I prefer the lighter feel over the crunchiness of a Gore-tex Pro jacket.

All good but would like to see some better colors

I'm 6'1 and 175 lbs. The Medium fits me perfectly with enough room for a fleece and long underwear during colder months. Durability and waterproofing are all top notch and it is lightweight. Breathability is adjustable with open pockets and pit zips but blocks the wind well! The hook is large so it's meant for some heavy rains. Very pleased with this purchase, I just wish there were better color options. As far as performance goes this jacket is 5 stars, but I would rate it a 4.5 because of the lack of color options.

The Beta SL Jacket – our lightest Beta – is built for mountain realities. This product is free of intentionally added PFAS.

The new ePE membrane technology is lighter and thinner, but just as strong and durable as the materials we used before.   You may notice the face fabric “wetting out” slightly faster in products with ePE membranes, but rest assured this does not affect the waterproofing of the membrane itself.
