Great jacket for 13 years

I want to share my experience with the Arcteryx Beta AR Jacket after more than 10 years of use. The comfort, quality, fit, and durability were excellent for the first 13 years. In the 14th year, the glue around the zippers wore out and the zippers detached. The jacket is no longer usable. Because of this, I am unsure if I will buy another Arcteryx jacket. I hoped a high-quality jacket would last longer. Also, I’m not satisfied with the reason customer service gave for the glue issue or the solution provided. My 3-star rating is an average: 5 stars for the first 13 years, and 1 star for the years I cannot use it.

You cannot be serious, bro. A shell jacket failed on you after 14 (!!) years of use?!?! And you then cry about the fact that customer service does either not give back your money, or repair your old junk?! You really expect a clothing garment will last a life time?? Everything has a life span and I think any reasonable thinking individual will be very happy to have had a shell jacket that lasted well over a decade, even if this jacket costed like, what, (only) 400 bucks 14/15 years ago? That's 28 bucks a year! A steal at that price!

No Water Resistance

After 10 minutes in heavy rain, I was completely soaked. I've used this jacket only three times, and from the first use, it was clear it offers no water resistance, despite being marketed as suitable for such conditions. It seems designed solely for wind protection. I own other jackets at a quarter of the price that handle water far better. I'm very disappointed with this product.

Wetting out can be frustrating, but it doesn’t mean the jacket is no longer waterproof. All GORE-TEX products benefit from regular washing to help maintain their performance. Washing removes dirt and oils that can affect water repellency. We also recommend reapplying a DWR finish periodically to help restore its ability to shed water. Good not great.

Light weight, good at breaking the wind and in light to moderate rain. I like the colour but it stained immediately. I wore it coiling a dirty rope so that’s my bad, whoops. Went out in moderate rain having the jacket for a week. The hood and shoulders were beading water nicely, although the first layer of material around my climbing harness was soaking through a bit. Still kept me dry but if the rain was any heavier I’m not confident it would have.

Problème membrane et soudures

Très confortable parceque très bien taillé mais…… membrane et soudure très sensibles au décollement. J’ai donc fais envoyer le produit dans leur unité de réparation mais selon le fabriquant la membrane est contaminé et donc irréparable. Ils m’ont donc gentiment proposé de la détruire. 🤨. Le revendeur, lui m’a rétorqué qu’il aurait fallu la laver bien plus souvent pour préserver le « gore tex pro » des effets de la transpiration. ( je me suis même entendu dire le mot « bon sens » et le parallèle avec l’hygiène des sous vêtements !… bref…) Je ne lave ma veste que lorsque cela est nécessaire, soit 1 à 2 fois par an, lorsqu’elle est sale ou qu’elle sent la transpiration, ce qui est logique, encore plus à l’heure des prises de conscience de l’usage de l’eau et des effets des PFAS contenus dans ce produit. Je qualifierais donc ce produit de « jetable » après quelques années; argument irrecevable selon moi compte tenu du prix (600€!) et de l’absence de recommandations d’entretiens plus précises.

Bought this jacket to replace my 20 year old Theta. Same quality (and I hope durability), but much lighter. I went back and forth between this and the beta sl. Ultimately, I like the durable feel of the GT pro without being too “crunchy” or stiff.

The Beta AR is for regular use, especially that it is a year round use Product.Most frequently used, when it is rainy or snowy weather.I love it because it is well made,packable and the color is amazing.I get noticed and complimented when I wear it.I had the older one for almost 12 years and I am very grateful that I was given a Replacement, after the first one was near the end of its useful life.Thank you .

Nice shell but a little bland

Jacket is cut well and fits without extra material. The feel is a little stiff but I assume that's due to the the waterproof membrane. It is not as thick as the Sidewinder it replaces and I hope the bonded areas will last longer, as that is what failed on the previous 2 Arc'teryx jackets. It is a simple jacket without lots of extra pockets and that seems to keep the weight down and make it easier to pack. I was undecided about which version to get - the stormhood one or this one and went with the separate collar version. I've yet to really use the hood in a downpour so I can't say if I made the right choice. I do like the collar on this one and that the hood lays flatter when not raised. Color choices were meh, so I went with the basic black sapphire. It's nice and understated but I've found recent Arc'teryx colors to be less interesting than when I first was attracted to the brand. All told, this seems to be a good functional and flexible waterproof shell with good tailoring. I hope it grows on me as I use it more, but I'm a little underwhelmed to start.
