Bonjour, merci pour votre question. La veste Proton peut tout à fait être utilisée pour le ski en températures négatives, mais plutôt comme couche intermédiaire sous une coquille imperméable, surtout si vous skiez par temps froid, venteux ou dans des conditions changeantes. Pour du ski de printemps ou des journées plus douces, elle peut être portée seule. Le niveau de chaleur ressenti dépend aussi beaucoup du type de ski que vous pratiquez : en haute intensité, sa respirabilité est un avantage, tandis qu’en basse intensité ou lors de longues périodes statiques, une couche extérieure coupe‑vent et imperméable devient essentielle pour conserver la chaleur.

Will adding proton hoody over atom or even a shell be efficient in adding warmth or it doesn't do much compared to a belay jacket since this is a breathable piece? I have the proton hoody too big so it doesn't work for me as a mid layer

Hello Yong, layering the Proton Hoody over an Atom or a shell will add some warmth, but not in the same way a true belay jacket would. The Proton is built as an air‑permeable midlayer, so it’s designed to release heat during movement rather than trap it. When you place it over another insulated piece — or over a shell — you’ll get a small bump in warmth from the extra synthetic insulation, but it won’t deliver the high level of heat retention you’d expect from a purpose‑built belay jacket. Since your Proton Hoody fits too large to function well as a midlayer, you may find that it doesn’t seal in warmth effectively when worn on top either. For situations where you need a significant boost in warmth while stationary, a dedicated belay‑weight insulated jacket will perform much better.

Would the proton be a good jacket for running at -15C in the winter ? With just a  base layer tshirt or long sleeve? or too hot?

I'm curious what the chest, waist and hem lengths are for this vs the current Proton Hoody in size medium.  I had  two older Proton LT's  and the size was perfect.  The new version is way too baggy.  Curious if this is closer to the old Proton LT fit.

Hi there, thank you for your question. Here are the size‑medium measurements for the current Proton Hoody compared to the older Proton LT Hoody. In recent years, the Proton LT was renamed to the Proton Hoody. While the overall design, materials, insulation, etc, are similar, there have been some updates to the fit. The previous Proton LT Hoody fits slightly smaller than the current Proton Hoody.

Can this be made without a hood again? I need it without a hood for ice climbing and downhill skiing. I need it with a hood for alpine climbing. Both are necessary. thanks!

La Veste à capuche Proton utilise un isolant synthétique Coreloft™ Compact avec 60 g/m² (grammes par mètre carré) dans la capuche et les manches, et 80 g/m² dans le corps. De son côté, la Veste à capuche Atom utilise aussi un isolant Coreloft™, mais à 60 g/m², réparti uniformément sur l’ensemble du vêtement. Ainsi, la Veste Proton contient plus d’isolant que la Veste Atom. Plutôt que de classer ces vestes en termes de chaleur, nous soulignons que leur performance dépend de votre activité, du système de couches utilisé et de votre confort personnel. La Proton privilégie la respirabilité pour accompagner les efforts soutenus, alors que l’Atom offre une meilleure protection contre le vent. While it offers solid warmth for its weight, the Proton Hoody is not intended as a standalone piece for extreme cold.
