Question 1

Could I snowboard in this all day

River, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello Jack, yes, you can snowboard in the Proton SL Hoody, but it’s best suited for high‑output, active days or warmer days. It’s a very light synthetic midlayer with great breathability, so it works well under a shell if you tend to run warm or are riding in milder conditions. For colder days or lower‑intensity resort laps, most guests prefer something with a bit more insulation. Question 2

May I know the difference between "PROTON SL HOODY" and "ATOM SL HOODY"? Which has better warmth, breathable and suitable for hiking?
Please inform the measurement of size XS and S. Thanks.

River, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello Jeff, great questions! The Atom SL Hoody provides slightly more warmth thanks to its Coreloft™ Stretch insulation and Octa® fleece, while the Proton SL Hoody uses Octa® Rachel knit insulation to deliver higher breathability and better comfort during fast, high‑output movement. For hiking, Atom SL is the better choice in cooler conditions when you want a light but noticeable boost of warmth, whereas Proton SL is ideal if you run warm or need maximum airflow on milder days or steeper, more active terrain. Here are the measurements of the jackets:

Proton SL Hoody, sizes XS and S:
Chest width: 102.6 cm - 107.6 cm
Waist width: 95.4 cm - 100.4 cm
Back length: 68.2 cm - 69.5 cm

Atom SL Hoody, sizes XS and S
Chest width: 100.8 cm - 105.8 cm
Waist width: 93.4 cm - 98.4 cm
Back length: 67.7 cm - 69.0 cm

Question 3

What temperature range is this jacket good for?

Seymour, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thanks for reaching out. The Proton SL Hoody is the lightest, most breathable option in our Insulation Collection and is insulated with Octa® Loft. It is designed for warming up on cold climbs and high-output activities in cool conditions. That said, we do not rate our garments for temperature as there are too many factors that influence this result from person to person, and we recommend referring to our layering guide for more tips on staying warm: https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/shop/layering-guide/

Question 4

Is the sizing (in size men’s small) of the current “Proton SL Hoody” similar to the sizing of the 2024 “Proton Lightweight Hoody” or have you reverted to the slightly larger size of your Proton hoodies from 2021/2022? They were a great fit for me. Thanks

Helio, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi Mike, thank you for your question! The sizing and fit between this year's Proton SL Hoody and the Proton Lightweight Hoody from 2024 are virtually the same. For your reference, here are the exact measurements for the Proton SL Hoody Men's in size Small compared to the Proton Lightweight Hoody Men's in size Small:

Proton SL Hoody (current)
Chest Width: 107.6cm
Waist Width: 100.4cm
Center Back Length: 69.5cm

Proton Lightweight Hoody (2024)
Chest Width: 107cm
Waist Width: 100.3cm
Center Back Length: 69.1cm

In 2023, the men's fit was updated with a revised fit. The size medium remains unchanged, while smaller sizes are now tighter fitting, and larger sizes are now looser fitting. For comparison, here are the same measurements for the 2021 Proton LT Hoody in size Small:

Chest Width: 111cm
Waist Width: 101cm
Center Back Length: 74.8cm

We hope this helps!

Question 6

Hi, which out of the atom’s and proton’s is warmest when not doing that much activity? Such as commuting/daily life?

Seymour, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thanks for reaching out. For daily use, such as commuting, the Atom line is generally better suited, as it is more wind resistant and designed to retain warmth when you are not moving as much. Within the Atom collection, the Atom SV Hoody offers the most warmth. The Proton line is more breathable and intended for higher output activities, where excess heat needs to escape. We hope this helps!

Can you provide dimensions for the M and L size please? Back lenght and sleave lenght too. Thanks a lot!

Question 10

Which of the following best suited for spring to early summer when morning is chilly but warm up in the afternoon without overheating? Proton SL, Atom SL, Delta hoody, Nuclei hoody. Any other suggestions?

Luna · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thank you for your question! While these hoodies are a great option for keeping you warm when adventures take you through the cold, each jacket was designed for different activities and conditions. Here's a quick comparison:

Proton SL Hoody
Design: Our lightest, most breathable insulated hoody, ideal for high-output activities in cool conditions.
Insulation: Polyester Octa® Rachel knit (98gsm) is used throughout the jacket, and provides light warmth and excellent breathability.

Atom SL Hoody
Design: Our lightest, most packable Atom, perfect as a standalone layer or mid-layer for a variety of mountain activities.
Insulation: Coreloft™ Stretch (40gsm) is used in key areas for warmth, with Octa® Polyester Fleece at the side panels for ventilation.

Nuclei Hoody
Design: A windproof, lightweight, and highly packable Coreloft™ insulated hoody for climbing and alpine pursuits. Designed to keep you warm during the static phases of alpine travel, it delivers outstanding thermal performance for remarkably little weight.
Insulation: The Continuous Coreloft™ 65gsm insulation used throughout provides excellent warmth for its weight.

Delta Hoody
Design: Our most technical fleece hoody, great as a midlayer or standalone piece for warmth at camp or on the move.
Fabric: The Octa® Polyester Fleece provides softness, breathability, and durability, while offering superior warmth-to-weight performance.

For spring to early summer, when mornings are chilly but afternoons warm up, the Proton SL, Atom SL, or Delta Hoody are your best bets; they balance light warmth with breathability. The Nuclei Hoody offers more insulation, so it’s better for colder spring days, but may feel too warm during early summer afternoons. We also offer free returns, so you can order more than one jacket to try on at home and keep the one that suits you best: https://arcteryx.com/us/en/help/returns. We hope this helps!
