Warranty and Durability.

When I wear the boots, they are absolutely perfect: they are rigid, well-insulated, and narrower than most models designed for ice climbing. However, the liner is extremely difficult to put on and take off. Additionally, I encountered an issue with the zipper, which, under pressure, would open in the center. Eventually, the zipper completely broke. I submitted a warranty claim, but it was denied. I also contacted Arcteryx several times in hopes of having the boots repaired or obtaining replacement parts, but without success.

Hi there. Thank you for sharing your experience with the Acrux AR GTX Boot. We're glad to hear that the fit and performance met your expectations but regret the difficulties you encountered with the liner and zipper. We understand how frustrating this must have been, especially when seeking a repair solution. While our warranty covers manufacturing defects, wear-related issues can fall outside of coverage. We appreciate your comments and we will make sure to pass them to our team.

Good boot with some flaws

Good mtn boot Fit: I would prefer more heel lock, But the width of the shoe is on spot Adjustbility: I hate the laces. They have tendency to untight after sometime. Boa or another system would be preferable Durability: the toe cap rubber should be better Sole: I would prefer more softer rubber compound

Super Warm

I've used the Acrux for a mix of mountaineering and ice climbing, and overall, it's been a solid performer. The boot is exceptionally warm and relatively comfortable for its category. While the double-boot design can make it a bit tricky to get in and out of, once you're in, your feet stay dry and comfortable all day—even in extremely cold temperatures.

Very Warm!

Excellent boots! I climb steep ice, and guide ice climbing in these, and truely my feet have never been cold. The fit is comfy, and the lacing allows you to get a snug fit for steep ice. The are a double boot, but feel very low profile and decidedly not clunky. I can definitely recommend them.

THE All around mountain boot

I have two pairs of these boots in a looser and tighter size. The tighter boots climb ice and mixed terrain super well. The larger pair I use for general mountaineering. These boots are waterproof like an extra tuff and warm like a true double boot. I say like a double boot because the inner sock liner isn't bulky or huge but still adds warmth and the ability to dry boots out overnight in a tent. I use medium volume insoles in the liners without issue. My two big cons are the liners being hard to take on and off but that is the price of a performance fit. The second con is the durability of the outer being a bit lacking; taking care of the zipper with lube and not beating the crap out of the boots are a must for these beauties. They are high performance machines!

Great for it's time, Time for an updated fit

These are rereleased boots from Arcs early forays into footwear, and have the narrow foot that took too long to correct. Thankfully, with this new generation of Konseal FLs and Vertex Alpines, the footwear designers have finally decided to prioritize the wants of the user, by (seemingly reluctantly according to an interview at ISPO) offering shoes in a wider fit. These boots can use a 3-4mm bump in forefoot width. Before I switched to the G-Tech, I used these for a season with the pinkey area punched out by a bootfitter. Otherwise they at comically too narrow. Lots of potential here for an update, looking at what Arc has recently been doing in their footwear line and what the G-Tech and G-Summit has shown what is possible in this space. Stoked to see and try for a home run by Arc in the next couple years. Wish it was my forever double boot.

Customer Service
Hello Geoff, thank you for sharing your detailed feedback on the Acrux AR GTX Boot. We appreciate your insights on the fit and how it compares to Arc'teryx's evolving footwear line. It's great to hear that the recent Konseal FL and Vertex Alpine models are moving in the right direction with wider fits, but we understand the frustration of finding the Acrux AR too narrow. Your suggestion for a forefoot width adjustment is valuable, and we’ll pass it along to our design team as they continue refining future iterations. We’re excited about the potential for upcoming innovations and hope to deliver a boot that meets all your expectations in the near future.

I agree. I tried on a pair at my friends Arc shop in Chamonix 2 years ago and had the same reaction - way to narrow, my feet were hurting immediately and I don't have a wide foot. I fit La Sportiva boots G5 Trango etc as a rough guide. As always the quality appeared to be epic - in the end I purchased La Sportiva G2 mountain boots as I was after a light warm boot. On a side note as per above review it's about time these boots had the BOA system or at least some form of lace locking system similar to Salomon trainers maybe ! A slightly wider Acrux AR with BOA would be an awesome combo IMHO :)

Acrux AR GTX Boot

The task was to create the lightest, most durable, best fitting, lowest volume weatherproof double boot ever made. The Acrux AR is the result. Designed for mountaineering, ice and mixed climbing, the Acrux AR combines the light weight and low volume of a single boot with the insulation, protection and quick drying advantages of a double boot. The comfort and support of Arc’teryx Adaptive Fit technology, unique laminated construction, and a wide range of innovative components and materials are all leveraged to meet the dynamic needs of the alpine climber’s foot and the rigorous demands of extreme environments. Years in the making, the Acrux AR is an unprecedented achievement that meets the full spectrum of performance demands.

THE NEED

Climbers and professional mountain guides require use-specific performance across a range of alpine conditions and terrain. Their boot needs to provide support and security on mixed routes, ice climbs and glacial traverses. It needs to keep the foot warm, dry and comfortable, then dry quickly if moisture accumulates. It needs to withstand repeated use on rugged terrain. It needs to fit and provide a supportive platform. It needs to deliver all of this in a lightweight, low volume package for agility and freedom in extreme situations. Until now, some of these needs would have to be sacrificed to meet the others.

CREATING THE SOLUTION

Arc’teryx took the time to develop and meld new technologies so that the Acrux AR could satisfy the range of climbers’ needs without compromise. Arc’teryx Adaptive Fit technology uses a removable bootie that employs stretch textiles and minimal seams to create an instant custom fit with no pressure. With protection extended beyond the cuff of the boot and the highest level of breathability in this category, the bootie’s GORE-TEX membrane optimizes climate control and waterproof benefit. The perforated PE foam’s quick dry properties improve comfort, and a rubberized sole allows the bootie to be used as a camp shoe. The PE inner shell is preformed to compliment the bootie’s Adaptive Fit performance while providing insulation and a secure foothold. Laminated Watertight™ construction and an exceptionally breathable GORE-TEX gaiter deliver total protection from water with a high level of abrasion and puncture resistance to offset potential damage from crampons and rock. The specially developed Vibram® AR outsole is designed for support and sure footedness. The tread and construction feature a semi-blocked toe, with anti-slip grooves, a medial climbing support zone, and heel created to provide braking on steep descents. The Vibram® Mont rubber compound maintains its performance in sub-zero conditions.

Includes 1 pair of GORE-TEX HIGH-LINERS.
