Not just for alpine climbing

Living in a dry climate, I've been wishing for Arc'Teryx to introduce a ridiculously breathable and technical soft-shell - so I can use it for ski touring. The fabric is stretchy so I never feel inhibited and can layer underneath, even in the winter. I sweat a lot, so the breathability and the extra breathable back and pit panels hit the mark. I pair this with a Proton SL or Atom SL for my goldilocks ski touring layering system. I'll leave this on for the descent and don't need to add or switch layers most days which is a unique time saving advantage during transitions. The chest pockets are large enough to swallow a phone or avalanche blue book. I wear my usual Arc'Teryx shell size, L, in this and even though it's a more fitted shell than say a ski-specific Sentinel, it's still got plenty of room for movement and layering. Really looking forward to using this ski mountaineering. The Electra color POPs.

Do it all coat!

I've skied, run, and ice climbed in this kit, and I love it! It breathes well and I can sweat in it without moisture getting trapped. I’ve also been pleasantly surprised by its water resistance in the snow. It won’t keep you dry all day, but it can handle light snow for a few hours. It’s definitely a more athletic fit, so I’d recommend sizing up if you prefer a more relaxed fit, but it was true to size for me.

Great soft-shell

I really love this softshell. I am usually an L, but I sized up to XL here not only because I wanted room to layer, the L was actually quite tight. So you might want to try before you buy or order 2 size options. It's not insulated at all, like some softshells can be. I've worn it in many different configurations so far, alone over a short sleeved tee, over a long sleeved base layer, under an outer layer (I love the pop of colour the Electra gives underneath something darker). I just came back from a 10km hike in the bush in -1c, with a merino base layer and over my Atom hoody. It was a perfect combo. I am wearing this garment for hiking, biking & urban, not climbing. I really do love it and I know why it has no waist pockets which isn't an issue for me. The hood is roomy and the sleeves are long, almost a little too long. When zipped to top, the neck is roomy too. I am considering buying another in black.

*Stoked* on this alpine softshell

I'm a long-time Proton hoodie maxi for all things mountain / alpine. One of the key features I love most about them is the "alpine pockets" on the chest, which are clutch when you're doing anything with a harness (and frakly I just prefer them overall). As far as shells go, apart from the Alpha Jackets I don't think I've ever seen a shoftshell for climbing / alpine...
So this beauty is a veryyyy welcome new addition to the family! Double-sided alpine pockets are a dream for me. I also love the movement and feel of the material itself: breathable, durable feeling (will report back in comments if I find otherwise over the season) and just the right space in the shoulders for unrestricted movement.
The fit is definitely more "trim" compared to a Proton or Alpha - I have bigger hips and notice it there the most. Still works for me but would likely be worth trying out in store if you're unsure.

Perfect for skinning

This soft shell is the perfect weight for morning uphill laps. Normally I wear an Atom hoody, but this was much more breathable resulting in less sweat in the garment - it's going to be my new go-to for 11-20 degree (F) uphill lap mornings. The thinner fabric under the arms and at the back helped vent and the shell provided wind protection on the way down. Like all Arc'teryx hoods, it fits over a helmet without flying off or being constrictive. There is nice stretch to the fabric, too, and I was able to pop my skimo skins in the chest area for the way down without them falling out the bottom.

Miss the pockets

The only thing I miss is pockets at the bottom of the jacket. There is no pickets to put your hands.
