I am 188 cm/95 kg - large fits me perfectly. I had an LT hoody before, but after I bought it my son kept on "borrowing" it so I decided to just let him keep it (he wears it all the time). I liked that jacket very much, but because I don't care much for the hood I purchased an LT jacket with no hood. It may be my personal preference, but one thing is missing - hem drawcord (hooded Atom LTs have it, but jackets with no hood don't). Otherwise, I love the jacket and will now have to buy one for my other son before the new one is gone...

Great layer for the cold!

First, a little bit about me. I am 1.74m (5ft 8½in) tall and weigh 74kg (163lb). My chest measures 109cm (43in) and waist 84cm (33in). I have an athletic build and my challenge is always finding things to fit my chest/ back/ shoulders particularly when reaching and whilst maintaining a trim fit around the mid-riff.
This jacket really is a benchmark for cold weather layering. I tend to heat up quickly so went for this over the AR version and think I made a good choice. The fleece/ hardface sides provide improved breathability and a little stretch to assist movement under your shell. I'm also not sure you need much more than its Coreloft 60g insulation unless in severe cold (in which case it fits perfectly over my Arc' Argus jacket for more warmth). Corded zippers mean its easy to work with gloves on in winter, my only improvement would be a single pull hem drawcord (a small improvement!). Other than, the really lightweight provides you with a lot of warmth (when wet too) and a little weight! I also went non-hooded because I wanted it specifically for layering, although the DWR could get you through showers as a stand-alone outer if you wanted.

The Atom Lt is the best light weight puffy that I have ever owned! It's a great insulating layer under a shell. Most of the time when I'm snowboarding or fly fishing in foul weather all I need is this jacket under my waterproof shell. I stay very warm and still have great range of motion in my shoulders and arms. The only drawback to this jacket is it's durability. The outer nylon shell on the Atom albeit lightweight, tears very easily. I have had 2 Atom Light's and both have torn in multiple places while I'm fishing or wearing it with a backpack. My first one was torn by my backpack belt while I was just hiking on a trip in WY, normal abuse, nothing crazy. My newest one tore on a thorn bush the other day while I was coming off the river. Not acceptable! I know this is supposed to be an insulating under layer but it is also a great lightweight outer jacket for cooler weather conditions. If Arc'teryx would just slightly beef up the outer shell on this jacket with some rip stop or heavier gauge nylon it would be the perfect jacket!

Arc'teryx does produce an Atom LT Jacket with a 'slightly beefed up' outer fabric. Look for the LEAF (Law Enforcement/Armed Forces) version which has a stronger inner and outer fabric as well as fleece in the collar.
Arc'teryx only sells this version directly to vetted individuals, but several Web retailers may sell it directly without requiring military ID.
Take a look at http://leaf.arcteryx.com
But .. keep in mind that this jacket is lightweight and less durable by design. Making it able to handle sharp torns or backpack abrasion over an extended period would compromise the packability and light weight.
You may need something like a Gamma LT softshell for outer layer.

Had this as Christmas present and used most of the week we were up in the Lake District with just a base layer on. Great product kept me warm but thanks to side panels not sweating. With neck collar allows more comfort and warmth. Zip very easy to use and looks great as casual jacket so one jacket instead of 2.

This jacket is the real deal. If you are hiking, camping, climbing or simply attending your child's sporting event outside this jacket can do it all. It is surprisingly light and can provide warmth in anything down to around 20 degrees.
I work in an outdoor store and I tell our customers that this jacket is the best all around . I do wish it was water proof, but really that is not a big deal, because this jacket it supposed to be a layering piece. I appreciate the light weight and the way that it fits.
Truly, there is no jacket like it.

The perfect 90% jacket

I'm 6'2" 230lbs with athletic build the XL fits like a glove. This is a perfect 90% jacket, in other words you will wear it 90% of the time. Slides on easy because it has smooth nylon interior and the zipper is perfect works great and never stages. I lost my favorite Mountain Hardware jacket a few years ago and have been searching for the perfect jacket to replace it, this one is it. Highly recommend.

Bought this very recently to do some trekking in Yoho National Park in BC. Temperatures were a balmy -25 Celsius the entire weekend but the Atom layered under a lightweight wind breaker was perfectly warm for the walk in and out. I have come to except this type of exceptional performance from Arc'teryx products and the Atom is a layer that I will never be without in the bush.

Works as designed. Provides adequate warm in cool weather, but not cold unless either performing activities beyond walking, nothing a shell can't fix.
Design issue is the fabric near the chin. If you've got stubble which I imagine many users might, it wears at the fabric, and soon looks like it may even tear it. Other brands I own have addressed this issue. Disappointed that Arc'teryx hasn't on one of their bestsellers. Also own the Camosun which doesn't have such issues. Will inspect this prior to next purchase.

My go-to jacket

I am 5'6" tall, 160 to 165lbs, 40" chest, 32" waist. I wear a size medium which fits well over a base layer or over a light sweater. The fit overall is great, but being a shorter, stockier guy the sleeves are too long and hence tend to bunch up too much around my wrist, but I'd rather have the sleeves too long than too short. The breathable side panels are nice and stop me from overheating, but in windy conditions you can feel the air passing through the jacket. In windy conditions I would wear a shell over top.I typically wear my Atom LT with a t-shirt underneath in 40 to 50 degree weather, then add a sweater underneath in 30 to 20 degree weather, at around 15 to 20 degrees, I'll switch to my Atom AR or throw a shell on top so the wind isn't blowing through the jacket. Even though this isn't as warm as my Atom AR it is my go-to jacket for running errands, walking the dog and other activities.

I read that everyone at Arc Teryx owns an Atom, well we all should too! This was my first Arc purchase and it made me come back and buy more and more.
The Atom is awesome as a fall / early winter jacket or as a mid layer. I wear this as the temp gets down to 0c its sneaky warm. You wouldnt think it is by looking at it as its so thin & light but it is. Also, the DWR finish works so well. Ive been caught in situations with light rain or snow and its kept me dry. I can also wear it over a sweater or hoody and it still feels great.
When the weather dips below 0c, I wear the Atom as a mid underneath a Theta shell & its so comfortable as a mid. I can hardly tell I'm wearing it.
Proslight, so comfortable, sneaky warm

I just wanted to add, since reviewing the LT jacket, I know have the Atom LT Hoody, LT Vest and SL Hoody and cant recommend them all enough. I'll be getting an AR soon.

I have skied with this as a mid layer for over a year, that's about 100 days on the mountain. I use this in tandem with the Stingray hardshell. This is a great mid layer. I also where this around town on warmer days...above 40 degrees F and it's great. I cannot say enough about it. I love it.

"Unbelievable Warmth"

A friend of mine has owned his atom for some time now; and has been after me to get one too. I have the Stingray jacket and other ArcTeryx clothing, so I usually just layer under for added warmth. But finally decided to buy one for the cold dry weather days. Wow.. What an incredible amount of heat from a near weightless jacket. It seriously weighs like nothing. And honestly feels like its made from a premier sleeping bag material. (which makes me again ask why ArcTeryx doesn't make sleeping bags) But thats another story. The only caution is that the fit is different from other sized jackets. I wear a L in the stingray, and an XL in the Atom. Overall, this jacket is absolutely in a league of its own. If you're looking for a warm mid layer, or dry weather outer shell, and wanna stay toasty, don't hesitate. Buy today… BTW, the new blue looks awesome….

Great concept of materials & quality. I have an athletic build and the coat "lofts" right in the mid-section only, so it gives the appearance of having a huge beer belly. If that appearance doesn't bother you, I highly recommend this piece.
To Arcteryx's defense, they do list it as a mid-layer, rather than an outer layer, so the appearance shouldn't be a concern of mine. I guess for the price, I would've liked to use it as both an outer wear & mid-layer, rather than just a mid-layer, because I can't get over the "beer belly" appearance it has as an outer layer.

I bought this Coreloft jacket because down ones pierce through the lining and you get covered in down. Sleeves are a bit too long and it should be offered in a brownish color. Quality is what you would expect from Arcteryx.

I love this jacket! It packs easily and can be used in many different temperature ranges. Feels very comfortable and fits like a glove. The only downside is it is a little tight under the arms, but I don't notice it after wearing it a while.

Love this jacket so far. We finally got some colder weather and I was able to get out in this jacket. It is warm but it breathes in the places I get over heated. So far it has been perfect for the 30-40 degree weather. The fit for me is athletic but it could be a bit looser in the arms and shoulders. I do wish the cuffs and bottom had been tighter. Maybe a draw string at the bottom would help. I don't think the fabric will be very durable but with this type of jacket I don't think is supposed to be. I have used this jacket for hiking and just walking the dogs.
Just in case, I am 6' and 210 with a 34''-35'' in waist. The XL fit well. I just wish the body was tapered better to fit by build.

This jacket is by far the best jacket i have ever owned. I bought the large and it fits perfect. Not too snug, not too loose, just right. I love the fact that it is a very soft jacket, and that it can repel water exceptionally well. I have the black without the hood, and it looks great on me. I normally wear it out in the city when the girlfriend and i shop and dine. It keeps me quite warm on the cold days and i like the fact that the side is made of fleece. I can get hot rather easily and the fact that its a beathable jacket is a plus for me. I own similar jackets, north face, marmot, and patagonia and none of these come close to the wearability and compressionability. I can darn near compress it to fit in my pocket... Ok well maybe not that much but it compresses quite small. I thnk arc terex hit the nail on the head with this one! I look forward to buying more products.

J'ai acheté la veste cette hiver chez un revendeur officiel à 2 pas de chez moi, le mec m'a même fait un petit rabais (toujours bon à prendre). Ce bout de tissu est incroyable, je la combine avec la Hybride Beta LT pour faire des petit miracle en toutes saison et par tout temps. Non sérieux, c'est vraiment abusé....Dans le sens ou cette veste et vraiment multifonction et passe partout. Dans une poche cargo bien compressée en forêt, en hiver comme sous couche (très chaude), sur une terrasse un soir d'été un peu frais , en montagne à 2000 , pour un rdv professionnel (en noir elle a vraiment un coté classe et la coupe est super bien foutue) ou simplement au fond du sac en backup (pour compléter un EDC par exemple). Niveau lavage et entretien aucun soucis, c'est super simple et ya moyen d’imperméabiliser avec des produits adéquats afin augmenter la durée de vie de l'effet déperlant. Cette veste va m'accompagner longtemps...En tout cas, bravo au mecs qui ont dessiné et conçus ce genre de vestes et d'habits.

Un must en effet en ce qui me concerne. cette veste est chaude, elle ne tient pas de place dans le sac à dos . Elle remplace sans aucun problème une polaire. Extrêmement confortable, coupe ajustée , agréable a porter et protégeant efficacement le bas du dos. Il m'arrive de la porter en couche externe à 0 degré centigrades avec uniquement un t shirt sans ressentir de sensation de froid. Bref , pour moi, elle est indispensable . C'est mon couteau suisse vestimentaire outdoor.

This jacket is a "Trim Fit". I have lots of Arcteryx pieces and all but 1 are size XL. I need an XL for this jacket. Large is too tight across the back and shoulders. The XL fits nicely everywhere except around the belly/waist. It is too big in that area especially for a "Trim Fit". In comparison to the Thorium AR that I have, it fits about the same but the Thorium is a roomier "Athletic Fit". The Thorium AR has an adjustable hem drawcord so that make it fit better. The Atom LT does not have this adjustment.
This is not a deal breaker for me. Just be aware that this "Trim Fit" is big around the middle with no draw cord.
Also be aware that the "Carbon Copy" colour is not 100% grey like the photos on the website show. The inside is a burgundy/reddish colour that can be seen anytime the jacket isn't zipped all the way to the top (see attached photos). For me that was a deal breaker so I exchanged it for the black version which is black inside and out as shown on the website.
For sizing I am 6' tall, with a 33" waist, 44" chest and I weigh 190lbs.
I really like the long long arm length of Arcteryx clothes but the waist size versus the rest of the dimensions is off. Climbers, back country campers and skiing are the activities that these clothes are being marketed for. The people who do these activities are in shape and tend not to have large mid-sections.

This fits better and is better constructed than any of the competitive products out there. And it's trim but still doesn't make me look fat in XXL. Great layering system. I might not wear it all alone to do rough work in since the outer material is thin but it is also very light and breathable... I've been using it under a shell and can use it all season long... on the coldest days I add a fleece but most of the time just wear a lightweight performance top.

I bumped into this jacket at Costco and a great price..I loved this jacket at first sight..I saw the potential..a older man walked up and asked if I knew of this brand..I told um Arcteryx made high end mountain gear.."well it's so light I can't believe this thing can keep you warm" he says..by this time I have it on..love it..feels good to the touch..and mobilty is outstanding..bought it..and i couldn't be happier..I've been using it as a mid layer..stand alone good down to about 40F for me..this turns any average shell into a super system..I've worn it as a mid layer down to -20F and I'm happy as a clam..forget looking like the Michelin Man with puffy down..this middy does the job..mobility and feel is awesome..love the cuffs for mid layering too..perfect for the task..no regrets here..part of my backcountry gear now.. {:^)>
