Good warm jacket but could be better

I bought this jacket just before an extended cold spell in Calgary. The jacket is very warm, looks great, fits true to size (I’m 5’9” and 155 lbs and the medium fits me). Two features could be improved: - front slash pockets are too small. They should be bigger and deeper. - the “cuff gaskets” are ineffective. They should be longer so that you could fit them under a pair of mitts/gloves. The cuffs are neither thin enough to be able to pull large mitts up over top, nor big enough so that the mitts can go under neath. A cinching mechanism and or longer cuff gaskets would allow you to close the gap between gloves/mitts and the coat.
Q: Pros:
A: Warmth
Q: Cons:
A: small pockets, cuffs
Q: Activity
A: Winter walking

Yes, I recommend this product.

Best jacket I've ever had

I don't usually do the review thing, but I've been so impressed with this jacket that I wanted to weigh in. I've had it for a few weeks and have taken from the rain-soaked streets of Vancouver to Calgary in -35, and it's held up under all conditions. In colder temps (-15 to -40), it needs a base layer to add some warmth. But other than that, it stands up well. I live in Vancouver, so I got it for the typical winter 5 to -5 type temps, and it's been perfect -- never too hot, never too cold. Most importantly, it's kept me completely dry. I'm 6'3, 200lbs and went for a large -- fits great and has enough room to wear a hoodie or sweater under it. I was skeptical about dropping this much cash on a jacket, but it's been worth every cent.
Q: Pros:
A: Warm, water-proof, stylish
Q: Activity
A: commuting, walking, living

Yes, I recommend this product.

Overall Good but Lacks Key Features

I like the way this jacket looks and it's overall construction. It's very waterproof and windproof. The outer material is durable but not rough. I have two concerns...the hand pockets are not warm and the zipper allows cold air in. If the hand pockets were cut under the down insulation rather than over, they would be much warmer. While there is an outer flap that covers the zipper, it still allows in cold air, especially when it's windy. I would expect an inner baffle (like they use around the neck) or different type of zipper to prevent this from happening. For such an expensive and generally well put together jacket, these issues are head scratchers for me. The jacket could be a lot warmer.

Go for it!

Very, very heavily researched this jacket and bought it last week. Within 24 hours I took it on a long weekend trip to Amsterdam. It held up well in the wet and misty weather at albeit mild temps (2-5 C) was a bit too warm. I love the styling and lack of pockets. It works well with a scarf and you can definitely rock a blazer under it. I'm 6ft and 170 lbs, athletic, the M was perfect for me, almost feels tailored. High collar doesn't bother me. My only issue is that the zipper is kind of wonky. I feel like it's just something you get better at over time. Not a deal breaker. Definitely worth it and I bought it in Europe where and 150 usd is tacked on... so you're getting a bargain if you're buying this in North America. Go for it!

I purchased this product a month ago and it's performing to expectations. It hold up well to heavy rain and the exterior dries quickly. Although I haven't tested it yet in below freezing temperatures, it has been warm enough for hour walks in 6 degrees Celsius, wind and rain with only a tee shirt underneath.

Best Winter Jacket – Disappointed about Quality

It is the best winter jacket I have ever owned. It's warm and comfortable. Easy to move around in and it'll keep you warm with just a t-shirt under. I have worn from 5 degrees Celcius to -10 without freezing or being too warm. The minus though, is that after approx. three years the zip hanger broke, and there are some color differences in the outer layer. I have not been hard on it, it has been for everyday/city usage. Currently it is send in to Arcteryx to investigate whether it is under warranty or not. I would say, that I had hoped that it would last longer than 3 years for the prize point – and hopefully it is a construction/goretex problem which is covered.
Q: Pros:
A: Warm, soft, looks good
Q: Cons:
A: Build quality
Q: Activity
A: Everyday use

No, I do not recommend this product.

Hi guys, Sorry for the wait time. It took quite some time for Arc'teryx to answer me. I had to write 3 follow up emails, and in the end I had to call them, to get the most disappointing answer. Let me try to give an as honest and objective description as possible of the progress. As I wrote initially, I contacted Arc'teryx about two different parts. 1) The zipper that broke, has been fixed, with a slightly different one – but it works. 2) The teardown of the outer shell. According to Arc'teryx and the warranty department, it is normal wear and tear, and therefore, my own fault. I stand by my original comment that the jacket has not undergone any hard treatment. But they wrote something like "everyday wear, is really hard for a jacket, and this is what you can expect as wear and tear" – I still strongly disagree - the outer fabric should last longer than 3 years, when it is taken care of properly!  I still think it is true, that it is the best winter coat I have owned – from a warmth, style and weather protection perspective.  I am though switching to layering instead, since it is ridiculous that I now have a "defect" outer layer and a well functioning "inner" layer – the down is still performing top notch when not getting wet due to the outer defect. Even though I disagree about it being my fault, I asked Arc'teryx what it would cost me to get it fixed (I have read multiple places that for x amount they would either replace it or fix it if possible) – but that was shut down by Arc; not an option. I was then browsing a product on the webpage and saw a comment from a guy (approx. a month old) who first got his jacket fixed for free many years ago. Then when it wasn't possible to save the jacket after even more years of use, he contacted them again and they offered him a discount of 60%.  I took a screenshot of the comment and sent it to the customer service rep which replied with the answer:  "We are sorry that we can not help you more with the service request of your product in this opportunity. Our repair center is the one in charge of each individual assessment and they stand behind the assessment given in your case." Which in my opinion demonstrates that they are not even reading what I was writing to them. Now I find myself in a position where I do not know what to do. I do not want to support this kind of company with such a poor customer service, but their products are those that fit me the best. I have tried a bunch of Patagonia gear the last month, since I was considering switching over – but my body form just works best with the cut Arc makes. I hope it helps – let me know, if you have any further questions or want something explained further. Best, Jonas

Warm and comfy with great features

Bought this a month ago and now actively waiting for some colder weather to wear it. Fits incredibly well and is stylish. Construction looks great too. I particularly like the fitting of the sleeve which has an inner cuff to keep out the cold, but it's soft and big enough for my wrists which is rare in a jacket.

Exceptional urban winter coat

Have worn in Europe and the U.S. east coast for a couple winters. Incredible heat retention due to length. Weight is lighter than anything else I’ve tried in class. Entirely waterproof too. The texture is unique, almost chalky - a nice touch for urban wear. Recommend wearing at freezing and below. The cut is roomy enough to allow layering but slim enough to not look boxy - typical great design from Arcteryx. Two minor points of feedback that don’t warrant taking off a star (and the overall awesomeness of this coat): the cuffs have a tendency to roll a bit, beyond the fold, maybe because the material is a bit softer than most outdoor gear. Could fix this with a firmer cuff or fold on the cuff. Second is the hood drawstring not staying in place when tightness. Arcteryx fixed at no cost but for a hood that’s pretty large, and you want to stay in place on cold days, this is essential.
Q: Pros:
A: Weight, warmth, cut, waterproof
Q: Cons:
A: Sleeve cuffs, hood locking
Q: Activity
A: Urban

Yes, I recommend this product.

Perfect Blend of Features and Looks

I'm super particular about jackets and finally settled on the Therme. Tried the Outdoor Research Stormcraft parka first and while I liked the materials and overall quality of the jacket I found the fit to be too relaxed. Then I tried the Thorsen and again liked the materials but not the look. It was a little too long and also snug in the hips. I'm 6ft 160lbs and usually a medium in everything but based on the Arc'teryx size guide I ordered a small. The fit of the Thorsen was perfect except for the hips. My main issue was the length though it just seemed awkwardly long. I finally decided to order the Therme and I love it. Small fits perfectly and leaves room for a sweater or midlayer. Looks really nice like a perfect blend between a technical jacket and something more urban. The face fabric has a really cool gauze like texture but feels like it's definitely durable enough to withstand some abuse. Plenty of insulation and overall construction is top notch. No insulation escaping and seams are well made. If I had to find something to complain about it would be the chest pocket being really small. Which is something other reviewers have mentioned but I was still a little surprised about just how small the pocket really is. Definitely not a big deal though and the rest of the jacket leaves no doubt that I settled on the right choice.
Q: Pros:
A: Construction, Design, Durability
Q: Cons:
A: Small chest pocket.
Q: Activity
A: Everyday Wear

Yes, I recommend this product.

Wanted to love it, but.....

Ordered this jacket recently from another retailer and was really impressed with the look, style, and weight. I am someone who gets cold very easily and needed something to keep me extra warm during our Canadian winters. The only time I wore it was to work one day when it was 6C and windy. Decided to spend my lunch and breaks outside. Even though I wasn't cold, I was just on the edge of being there. For me, I doubted that it would work in sub zero temps without some serious layering underneath. Because of the size I ordered, I wouldn't have been able to do this. Too bad because it is a great looking jacket. Regretfully I had to return it. I will be ordering the Fission SV jacket with hopes that it will work better for me. I know that everyone reacts to temperature differently, so it might work for you. Certainly not for me. Another thing that the other reviews didn't mention is that the outer shell attracts pet hair and lint like crazy. I had to spend about 20 minutes going over it with a lint roller before I sent it back. That was from just hanging in my closet. Overall, I think it will work for some people, just not me.
Q: Pros:

Q: Cons:
A: Not warm enough

Awesome coat

Had this just over a month now, and though I’ve not had chance to test it out in sub zero conditions, I have been able to test it in the cold driving wind and rain of the Peak District. It performs fantastic, wind and rain are easily kept at bay. It’s a very toasty coat and suspect it will cope with sub zero conditions quite easily. I’m 5’7” 68kg and bought an xs, the fit is perfect, not too snug but slim enough to look smart for casual outings with enough room to layer up on the colder days. The length is perfect for added protection when it gets windy but not too long to hinder leg movements. The hood is great, plenty big enough to wear a bob hat underneath, the two draw cords allow you to get whatever shape out of the hood you want depending on the weather conditions. Wide and roomy all the way to full on Cyclops mode. Would highly recommend this coat.

Very warm, comfortable and stylish

Great for cold weather use when not exercising (e..g, city commuting, sightseeing). The arms and hood are more insulated than an athletic parka - so your arms and head stay warm. The fit is great - very comfortable to move in. Looks great when you want to be more dressy than athletic wear.

A: Warmth, fit, style
Q: Cons:
A: none
Q: Activity
A: sightseeing

Yes, I recommend this product.

Cosy and waterproof!

Bought this for my first winter in the Northeast on a friend's recommendation and was not disappointed. The jacket itself is super warm and soft on the inside, and certainly keeps the rain off on the outside. The pockets are a little small for very large hands, but are soft inside and have zippers to close them. There are two breast pockets on the same side (left), one on the outside and one on the inside. The hood is good and tightens well and also keeps the rain off. Have worn this say outside a bar in 20 degree F weather and snow and was warm
Q: Pros:
A: Warm, waterproof, comfy, great hood
Q: Cons:
A: pockets are a little small
Q: Activity
A: Walking

Yes, I recommend this product.

Perfect for unpredictable weather!

I live on the east coast and the temperature can fluctuate from -12* to +12* daily. This lightweight down insulated coat provides me the comfort of knowing I am protected in rain, freezing rain, snow or just cold winter weather. Best arcteryx purchase so far! Well worth the money
Q: Pros:
A: Warm, stylish, waterproof
Q: Cons:
A: Hood not the same as other arcteryx

Yes, I recommend this product.

Excellent Down Parka~

Sometimes I don't want to look like I'm going out for an outdoor adventure when in fact I'm just hanging out in the city. So glad Arc'tyerx makes urban focused gear! The Therme caught my eye due to it's amazing design. There's no other jacket that looks quite like it. Modern, clean and confident. On top of the aesthetics it functions exceptionally well. Warm and toasty while keeping the rain and wind out. Perfect one piece coat for those winter outings around town!
Q: Pros:
A: Design/warmth
Q: Cons:
A: dual zippers
Q: Activity
A: Urban outtings

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great urban insulated parka

I bought this parka to mainly use around town. It fits well enough for me, as an XS size, it feels about right, leaning towards fitting big. It’s warm for an urban setting, wearing just light base layer, and great Arc’teryx minimalist styling. Collar is a bit awkward, and often catches my face mask. The coat material, surface texture seems to pick up dirt easily, but not really an issue for me. I wish the outer pockets were deeper, as I find it difficult to keep my woolen mittens in the pockets. The zipper appears to be on the cheaper-side, and so I worry about the zipper breaking. Overall, it’s a great jacket for daily urban living, but for outdoor athletic activities, it’s not technical enough.
Q: Pros:
A: Great minimalist styling, warm
Q: Cons:
A: Collar design catches my face mask.
Q: Activity
A: Urban outdoors, nature walks in the city parks and trails.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great Parka but is the color Gray or Purple?

I was excited to test it out this parka during the recent polar vortex! Happy to report that even with a wind chill of 8F this parka held up well. I love the quality, cut, style, and how light it is. But there is one major problem and that is the color. Pictures of the Whiskey Jack make it appear dark gray to heather gray. When I first opened the pkg, in my kitchen, it looked gray. I then tried on the coat walked into the sun filled living room to show my wife who said, "Okay... did you mean to buy a purple coat?" To my surprise she was right. In the sun or any warm light the coat looks a pale purple. Under a kitchen fluorescent light it looks gray. I took several pictures but the camera does not pick up the purple the way the human eye does. This is the second time I have been disappointed with a color from Arc'Teryx. I really do love this coat and recommend it, but I also recommend you see it in person before buying! I will be returning this Whiskey Jack coat and get another Therme in black! They can't screw up that color, right?
Q: Pros:
A: Style, warm, water & wind proof
Q: Cons:
A: Color/ No drawstrings for the waist
Q: Activity
A: Everyday use City life

Yes, I recommend this product.

Sleek Warm Coat

Just received it - fantastic. Great typical Arc'teryx cut, finish, and features. Fit is larger (got an L) than my Atom LT (XL) and there is room to layer if needed in very cold conditions. Feels very toasty, like a sleeping bag to walk around in. Great lines, not bulky despite the down, can be worn with sweats to walk the dog or a suit to the opera. The hood is a little stiff but its made to keep you warm, so no issue there. Buy it, my kids think I'm cool when I wear it!
Q: Pros:
A: Fit, materials, cut, warmth, style
Q: Cons:
A: Hood is a little stiff
Q: Activity
A: Around town, ski, generally balling out

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Pros:
A: Waterproof warm
Q: Cons:
A: Bad fitting design
Q: Activity
A: Walking

No, I do not recommend this product.

I'd agree with a lot of this. The hood fits poorly (blows off when cycling), the fit is awkward (the jump from medium to large is too big - I'm 183cm, 102cm chest, and medium feels tight, and the large I bought because of this is too roomy unless well layered-up - I'm considering mind because of this). It needs a string to pull in the waste. And the high collar gets ugly quickly because of contact with your skin (and I'm not that greasy!). It is warm and waterproof though, so it's not all bad, but there are too many poorly considered details.

Minor adjustments would earn 5 stars

Just bought the parka. Fits quite large so suggest to go one size down. I’m 180cm and 82kg with 104cm chest and the S fits me. Medium was too large as too much wind could travel in. Things to improve: storm flap behind zipper would be nice and possibility to adjust waist would also be a good addition in order to block wind more efficiently. Pretty warm in -5C, but at -10 and below I would look for something more heavy duty.
Q: Pros:
A: Light and relatively warm
Q: Cons:
A: Missing storm flap behind zipper
Q: Activity
A: Walking dog

Yes, I recommend this product.
