Like a calm sea, Walter is known for his zen-like demeanor, which has made many a monk ask for his secret. However, this International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations mountain guide knows that you can’t sail a boat without wind and when he needs to, he can 'bring a storm'. From K2 to Cho Oyu and back at home in the Austrian Alps, Walter has been guiding since 1990 and feels just as passionate today about guiding as he did when he started. Walter’s cooking skills bring pride to Austria; however, when he is in charge of the kitchen, it is best to stay out unless otherwise asked. Walter is forever exploring and when he isn’t summiting something, he can be found spending long days surfing, diving or sailing as a skipper, for he loves the ocean as much as the mountains.
