Both are waterproof, breathable GORE‑TEX shells with the mobility and weather protection those conditions demand. That said, if you’re spending long days on steep ice, dealing with spindrift, or pushing into harsher mixed terrain, you might appreciate the extra durability and feature set of the Beta AR or even the Alpha SV, which are built specifically for more severe, abrasive environments. It really comes down to how hard you plan to push the jacket, but yes — the Betas will get the job done, and the AR/SV will give you a bit more confidence when things get rough.

Hallo Kapuze, gute Frage. Das Trocknen im Wäschetrockner ist die empfohlene Methode, um die DWR-Imprägnierung (Durable Water Repellent) nach dem Waschen zu reaktivieren. Steht dir kein Trockner zur Verfügung, kannst du die Jacke auch an der Luft trocknen lassen; die wasserabweisende Wirkung wird dadurch aber möglicherweise nicht ganz so effektiv wiederhergestellt. Perlt das Wasser trotzdem nicht mehr ab, empfehlen wir eine neue DWR-Imprägnierung.

Hi there, thank you for your question. ISO 811:2018 specifies a hydrostatic pressure method for determining the resistance of fabrics to penetration by water. All our GORE-TEX items, including the Beta SL Jacket, have a 28,000 mm water column rating. All seams are fully taped on the Beta SL Jacket.

would a beta sl jacket be better than the normal beta jacket for these conditions. Regattas that are colder, moderate to extreme hiking, and every day use. Which one would be the best for keeping me warm but not too hot and is waterproof yet breathable

While both jackets are waterproof GORE-TEX shells which protect from wind and rain, neither jacket features any insulation on its own.
