Cold Day Relief.

The Thorium Hoody is solid option for someone looking for a jacket that is warmer than the Cerium or Atom line as a stand alone option. It can be used on the coldest of days under a ski shell without feeling cumbersome or too bulky. The fit for me (5’10 170lbs) in a medium is trimmer than other “regular” fits. Not tight but the bulk of the down does create a more form fitting feel in the chest and arms. Although the description states it is helmet compatible, it will not work over a large size Smith ski helmet. No way to comfortably put the hood over the helmet and have the jacket fit normally - can’t zip it up/allow the jacket to lay on the shoulders. Maybe a lower volume climbing helmet would work but I imagine it would be really tight. Helmet compatibility is a big deal for me but the jacket is still really solid and fits in my quiver of being the go to when the temp really drops.

Very warm

Bought recently for something warmer than atom AR. Definitely fits the bill. Very warm, even when I’m standing outside with minimal activity. Hoping the weather gets colder soon so I can really see how good it is.

Great Quality Skinny Jeans Style Fit

I previously owned the Cerium hoody which I really loved for it's as advertised weight to warmth ration. Certainly the Throium Hoody is a beefed up version of this down and for sure is more of a standalone coat. The issue I've had with this piece and the down insulated Beta AR jacket I recently returned is that the waist is super tapered. I'm 5'7 and 150lbs with broader shoulders and a 30 inch waste and still the fit was so snug and rides up when you bend over. Perhaps most disappointingly it was not as warm as I expected. The quality seemed really solid which had me really bummed because it was such a good looking piece overall.

Poor quality assurance bad warranty

I had bought this jacket online and when I received it there were stitches that wasn't pressed against the jacket and pointy/hard. This made it really irritating to zip up since it would poke into my chin, and another spot where it irritated my hands when I put them in my pocket.
I had gone into the store to confirm if this was an issue with every jacket or just mine but it turned out to be just mine. Due to such I was advised to open a support ticket online. I received a shockingly unexpected response and was told that the stitching issue was due to wear and tear and they would not support me. I felt that this was unfair as I had only worn the jacket once and if that's enough to be considered wear and tear then I really don't have high expectations of this product nor does it look like Arc'teryx stands behind their products.
If I did not have these issues the jacket is otherwise a very good fit and keeps me very warm (much more than needed). I would like to say that it feels very sturdy outside of the quality issues.

Well constructed jacket but for its price quality control doesn't seem to be all there.
Lower back doesn't seem to carry that much down fill, it is always flat and down-less compared to other parts of the jacket, started to think that this is a defective jacket due to quality control.

Warm, packable, perfect for a backcountry backpack. I was deciding between this and the Thorium SV, and I’m happy with my choice. Love that it packs down into a small bag and is perfect for throwing on when between movement on long tours. Looks great for around town wear. The high neck and hood are a game changer for keeping the cold out.

Great upgrade from Atom

Gained a bit of weight, so it was an excuse to buy another jacket. Upgraded from an Atom Hoody to this Thorium Hoody. Love the warmth, the style (doesn't look like a garbage bag), and the double zipper to free up the belly while driving. Great buy for me. My Atom is still in great condition after 7 years, handed down to my teenager. I'm sure this one would last me as long... Until the next weight gain... With muscles of course. Haha.

The most versatile jacket.

Thorium is the most versatile hoody jacket, over to be vey light and packable, it keeps you very warm with his insulation material.
I use Thorium just with one long sleeve layer under it in autumn and italian winter.
Then Thorium is perfect for the winter season in the north Europe just with a base layer plus an hoodie under it until many degrees below zero.
At last, Thorium is my insulated layer in my ski trip all winter, under my Gore-tex layer 💪🏽💪🏽

The best down-filled jacket with hood

I bought this as a replacement for my non-hooded Thorium AR that I gave to my son. This is a very well-made jacket with high-loft down and a comfortable fit as a stand alone jacket or under my Beta AR Gore Tex Jacket in the wet and snow. I like it when I am traveling and can put it in its stuff sack and keep in my carryon bag if I get stuck somewhere. I think that the quality is exceptional and the color quite visible when I am out in the dark.

Warm jacket

The jacket is good and warm, which I really love. I do find the fit a bit odd though. It’s super tight around the hem and the neck - I guess to keep the warm in, but I find it a bit extreme. I’m a fairly standard, athletic build and wear everything else from Arc in a medium, but this comes up weirdly small in some places and fits perfect in others. Large doesn’t work as is too baggy.

Perfect for N Greenland summer

I bought it a year ago and used this summer in Northern Greenland. It is warm and breathable for long, exhausting hikes on glaciers and mountains, in wind and rain. It also does not take much space and fits to a small bag to be carried in or outside backpack. External material is strong and resistant to sharp rocks. I also used it for hikes in winter in Big Bear where we get snow in winter. It worked fine and provides freedom to move with an extra layer under it.

I bought the Thorium AR jacket as a winter jacket for the 0 C and below temperatures in October of 2022. I own a Canada Goose Expedition for extreme Quebec winter weather but I needed a jacket that was meant for 0 to -20 degrees Celsius. The Thorium AR sure delivered. I wore it with just a t-shirt underneath at -18 Celsius and I was still comfortable for 30 minutes while waiting for the bus.
The outer layer feels really durable and I haven't had any issues with it in during the winter time. Sometime, feathers come out of it but... it's a down jacket so It's kind of to be expected.
The Thorium AR is not 100% windproof but it's a wonderful jacket for -1 to -20 Celsius weather and it will be my go to jacket for the upcoming years as Arc'Teryx quality clearly worth the purchase.
I'm 6 foot tall, 190 lbs and I like the large version as I have a little room for layers.

2nd Thorium Ive bought, and its just perfect. Thick enough that it keeps you warm in -35 to -40C temps without being bulky and restrictive. Awesome Jacket

Warm but not durable. Within a month of owning this jacket the outer layer had torn. There was no heavy activity or even an event that would have ripped this. Likely a gentle snag. Also noticing more degradation and loosening of seams.
No, I do not recommend this product.
