Fits Large

I’m generally a medium in everything, but I’m more of a small for this jacket, and due to policy Arcteryx will not allow me to swap or return. Double check your measurements. I’m sure it’s a great product, but it’s working against me at this size.

Exceptional All-Around Softshell

The Gamma LT is an exceptional softshell jacket perfectly suited to a wide variety of activities in conditions from fair weather to mild rain with strong wind. I have worn this jacket as an outer layer over my Proton LT for snowboarding and kept dry and comfortable both going downhill and on the lift in temperatures ranging from 20 to 40 degrees. The durable, stretchy face fabric is well-suited to these activities and blocks out the moisture very well. The Gamma LT is also well-equipped to be worn as an outer layer for climbing, particularly thanks to its long sleeves and relatively long cut in the torso. However, I also recognize how this longer cut in the arms could be a nuisance for people not intending to be reaching overhead much with this jacket. I own several softshells made by different brands, but I always reach for this jacket if I know the conditions will demand decent protection without totally sacrificing breathability. I am 6'3" and 180 lbs and a large fits me perfectly when used to layer with a fleece or insulated jacket. I find that the inner fabric isn't particularly uncomfortable against the skin, but I also prefer a slightly thinner, more conforming material and size if wearing this jacket without an insulation layer. As a result, I typically wear this jacket over at least a long-sleeve base layer and tend not to use it as much in warmer weather. Overall, I heartily recommend this jacket and believe that its feature set and lack of insulation make it an incredibly versatile and effective jacket.

Lightweight Jacket; Heavyweight Performance

I bought this jacket for a winter Mt. Whitney trip. I wore it as my outer shell and put it through the paces. In 30-50 mph winds and whiteout conditions I was sheltered from the elements enough to soldier on. The cut is intelligent and the adjustable hood is perfect when things get nasty. Then DWR finish was enough to keep me mostly dry in a 12 hour snowstorm. Very impressed with this jacket in conditions that were unexpectedly harsh.

Great light, breathable softshell

Picked up this jacket a few months ago to serve as a light, breathable softshell that would cut the wind without making me too warm. I tend to generate a lot of heat, especially when I start exerting. I haven't had the chance to really put this through the ringer as yet, but my experience so far - mostly light hiking and distance walking about town - have brought me to the following observations: - Provides a good balance of weather protection and breathability, exactly what I wanted from a softshell. - Quite a trim fit with a longer drop hem. I can wear a thin layer underneath, but it can get restrictive about the shoulders if it's more substantial than a very light fleece. - Fabric feels tough and durable! - Hood is very spacious if you're not wearing a helmet while using it. The cinches help, but if you're concerned about having a streamlined and urban aesthetic, be aware that it's quite spacious. - Pockets and hem adjusters are great, but it's such a trim fit that I can't see myself using them ;)
Q: Pros:
A: Breathable, Weather Resistant
Q: Cons:
A: Quite trim!

underrated, extremely versatile

this is a great, extremely versatile soft shell. no fleece lining like many soft shells, which makes it useful both as a shell for layering or as more of a windbreaker in mild weather. i wart it climbing, hiking and mountain biking. at 5’11” and 195 i got an XL, which is super comfortable to layer and loose but not too baggy on its own. no gore tex lets it breathe great too, while some taped seams and DWR keep out lighter precipitation.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Gold standard in softshell.

My first Gamma softshell was purchased over a decade ago, and only one set of repairs later thanks to rough use, it could do with another look. However, I like the jacket so much that, I've just bought another one rather than await repairs. Great wind and water resistance (of course), plentiful neatly structured pockets, concealed drawstrings and an excellent form conscious fit make this a winner.
Q: Pros:
A: Wind & water resistance, fit.
Q: Cons:
A: Laminated pockets.

Surprisingly Versatile and Comfortably Breathable

I initially purchased this item on sale and was skeptical that I needed it in my collection. For those that have a hard shell and don’t see the value of having a high quality softshell right away, I implore you to consider this jacket. I wore it with my Atom mid layer or kyanite hoodie all winter long in Toronto and didn’t reach for my hard shell once. It was sufficiently warm and weatherproof even in very low temperatures. It does not have the “storm proof” feeling for when weather gets really hairy, but for day-to-day activities or even XC skiing and snowshoeing it has become my go-to jacket. I have yet to test it in the rain, but I already know that’s not it’s intended purpose. I still need a reason to wear my hard shell sometimes!
Q: Pros:
A: Breathable, comfortable, flexible
Q: Cons:
A: None
Q: Activity
A: XC skiing, hiking, trail running

Yes, I recommend this product.

As good as advertised

I have used this once on a run - 1 degree Celsius, moderate wind and intermittent light rain. It was as good as all the previous reviewers said. It is a fairly thick shell so it was reasonably warm (I also wore a running T and a light hoodie). It breathed really well but also was an excellent wind break and had no trouble with the rain. It moved extremely well and I never felt restricted. I also loved the elastic on the end of the sleeves - comfortable but perfect for keeping wind out. The fit is excellent (I am 5'11'' 170 lbs and got a M). It is a little snug at the hips but had good stretch and never felt tight. I am thrilled with this hoody and can't wait to use it in other conditions and for other activities

Superb Jacket

This jacket is superb, the fit is excellent, I am 6'2" and 220 lbs I have size XL. The stretch in the fabric makes it so comfortable to wear you sort of forget you have it on. I received the jacket as a christmas present and have worn it almost every day since christmas. We have had a lot of snow and cold winds in the last 2 weeks 5C to -5C. I wear a long sleeve base and a fleece most of the time but switched the fleece for my Atom LT when it got down to -5C these combinations kept me at just the right temperature. The jacket handles the wind really well, I have been comfortable in 25-30 MPH winds. I have walked in light rain for 2 hours and my fleece underneath remained dry. The jacket breathes very welI and is so comfortable when pushing hard uphill. I would recommend the Gamma LT for any type of outdoor activity, I absolutely love mine and can honestly say it's my favourite jacket.
Q: Pros:
A: So comfortable to wear.

Great softshell

Nice easily packable softshell. Great for climbing in the mountains and casual use. The only drawback is the small inner chest pocket. Too small for a cell phone which is bizarre in this day and age. Everyone has a cell pone in the mountains and town. Id buy again in a heartbeat. Took one star off for the pocket (should be half star off but not allowed).

Awesome with one exception

In the month I’ve had it I have found my hooded Gamma LT to be as top-notch as expected for my hikes and xc skiing. With a vest and inner capilene layer, keeps me just warm enough when moving in chilly weather. Size L a perfect fit for me at 5’11” and 200 pounds. The only surprise frustration is that the inner chest pocket is smaller than its Arcteryx counterpart coats n vests and won’t allow for my normal sized iphone. I’m a bit perplexed given Arcteryx design for other chest pockets (and design in general) is spot-on. I use a hand-pocket instead but it’s not ideal. Hopefully this can be adjusted in future given how many people use the chest pockets for their phones? Thanks so much!
Q: Pros:
A: Fit, quality of material, versatile
Q: Cons:
A: Chest pocket too small

Perfect Jacket!

I recently managed to get my hands on a newer version of this jacket, with my last one being from around 2014. Lovely fabric. The Wee Burly material feels very durable and I love the matte look it has. I went for a size large in black. The medium felt a little too restrictive over my Cerium LT Hoody. The large had ample room and cinches in at the bottom. My only criticism is I’d prefer the embroidered logo to be white and not the grey colour. It still looks good though. As mentioned, I went for a large. I’m 6ft tall and weigh about 13.5 stone with an athletic build to put size into perspective. I hope this helps someone somewhere along the line as I know it’s not always easy to know. In all, another top bit of kit! I pretty much wear it daily and it still looks like I’ve put it on for the first time!

Great Jacket, Sizing Is Off

The Gamma LT is a classic and essential piece of gear. I have been a consumer of Arc'Teryx products for about 20 years and have been buying size large jacket from them that entire time. When I ordered a new Gamma LT, I went large and much to my disappointment I found it to be a full size larger than the Gamma MX I bought a couple of years ago. This is frustrating - and something I have heard from others. Why would a brand with long time loyal customers change its size grading? Had the same issue with the Gamma SL Hoody.
Q: Pros:
A: Classic and essential piece
Q: Cons:
A: Sizing is off

Superb Versatility

I've had this jacket for about 3 years and have used it for hiking, climbing and general use. It's a great piece - a little on the large size compared to the MX and longer in the body and arms. Its weight is ideal and with a layer (Cerium Lt) keeps you warm at altitude. Not the most windproof jacket but is fine if you keep moving. The hood works particularly well - it's large because it's helmet compatible - but easy to adjust, as in the picture. I've used it in the spring and summer mainly but also at altitude in the cold and it really is adaptable with plenty of room for layering. Arc'teryx soft shells seem to receive criticism in reviews about water resistance. I have no complaints - providing you apply DWR after every 3 to 4 washes - it sheds well and keeps the wet out in light/medium rain. I've had this jacket about 4 years now and it still looks brand new. It seems to have worn better than my MX despite being lighter material. It takes abuse well and the fabric has just the right amount of stretch. I'm a broad, athletic build (185cm, 95 kg) and brought XL, I felt L would not give enough room to layer.
Q: Pros:
A: Lightweight and rugged.
Q: Cons:
A: A touch to long in body and arms
Q: Activity
A: Walking, Climbing, Skiing,

Yes, I recommend this product.

Excellent choice as a do-it-all softshell jacket

As lightest jacket in the Arc'teryx Gamma collection, this is a great choice for mobility. It can easily be worn with extra layers for more warmth or thrown over a light base shirt in the summer climbing season. It is versatile, has a great fit, and is an excellent choice as a do-it-all softshell jacket.

Still surprises me.

I use this piece for mild, mixed forecast cast days with just a chance of a drizzle where warm insulation or a hard shell are not needed. Usually I wear it over a Delta LT and it still surprises me how well this combo breathes. I don’t have to peal off the LT shell for short indoor errands. The slightly sturdy fabric (compared to the floppy MX), trim cut and stretch gives it a nice sleek, sharp look and fit. I think this soft shell is underrated and overlooked.
Q: Pros:
A: Fabic, fit, trim yet flexible.
Q: Cons:
A: Helmet hood but does sinch down.

Rugged!

Very versatile, breathable, and stretch. I've been using as a soft shell over less durable items when mountain biking and hiking. It takes hits from tree branches and hard brushes with rock walls without issue. The fits is great for layering or with just a base layer.

Perfect fit!!! No climb waist

This jacket is perfect. I love how the fabrics stretch to allow a full range of movement without waist climb. The length is great as well, once cinched it locks out the flow of cold air. The fabric around the cuff feels incredible and doesn’t hinder any tasks. I got the arbor green color and it’s fantastic!
