Miss the Motus SS? The Cormac Crew Falls Short

I used to buy the Motus SS t-shirt religiously every year. However, since its discontinuation, the only option left is the Cormac Crew, which is not a suitable replacement. The Motus t-shirt was an extremely lightweight, silky smooth, athletic shirt that felt almost weightless during activities. In contrast, the Cormac is much thicker and heavier, with inferior moisture-wicking capabilities and a scratchier material. Additionally, it fits much looser and has a wider collar. The Cormac is disappointing, and I wish Arc'teryx would bring back the Motus t-shirt.

As others have said - older version was better

I also had the older version of this shirt which I found it to be excellent fit and material. The downward 'revision' of this shirt misses the mark in material quality and also has a wonky cut. I do like the colors, but that doesn't count for much if the rest of the shirt is sub-standard (given the price of the article). The older version of the shirt definitely was of higher quality and admittedly would have been hard to improve on (why mess up a good thing). The older shirt dries quicker and seems more breathable compared to the 'revision' of this Cormac shirt. I'm not sure if this is a result of gradual cheapening of the brand since being acquired by Anta (it wouldn't be the first for an acquired brand), but in general I have found my older Arcteryx items to be of better quality.

Great shirt for athletic activities.

Really like this shirt, but I've found that it's best worn when you're planning on being active. It's not great as a casual, lounging around shirt, but it works well when you're going for a run or hiking a trail.

Poor revised design

I tried this shirt on in a shop today, but what a disappointment. The sleeves are too long and it has an overly loose fit. The material also feels different and less comfortable than before. Definitely not a shirt I will buy, let alone use for running etc. Fortunately, I have a few of the good old Motus Crew neck shirts left.

Not a good update

I have 7 Cormac shirts and one revised. The update is difficult for sporting activities - it is too big and especially the sleeves are too long and hang on your forearms. I thought the previous generation was just about perfect. I wouldn't buy again.

Absolute Junk - Do not Buy

Selling this shirt should be considered fraud. The cormac shirt prior to the redesign was one of the best, if not the best athletic shirts on the market. I own 7 copies in different colors.
The new shirt is sized like a box and started to use completely inferior material, to the point that replica shirts likely have higher quality than the "real thing".
It is remarkable how much a Arcteryx has fallen since the pandemic - this is no longer a premium brand (although they still want to charge $70 for a junk shirt they won't stand behind).

Great shirt for high output activities. The sizing is a little weird. Im too large for the medium but the large is a little too loose on me . I ended up keeping the large since its for high output activities and I like to use it for climbing. The sleeves are slightly too long but it’s not the biggest deal. Overall great shirt for running, hiking, climbing etc.

Highly disappointing

Bought this yesterday assuming usual Arcteryx quality and should have scrutinized it more. Scratchy uncomfortable fabric and sadly I took the tag off before I came to this realization. A waste of money.

I see Arc’teryx still haven’t ditched this ‘revised’ Cormac and brought back the old one yet…
Until they do, as anyone found a decent alternative to these, similar to the older version of the Cormac SS? I’ve been looking at Patagonia.

Terrible redesign, please revert to the previous

I bought over 15 of these shirts last years and wanted to get more in new colors this year. But I was surprised to find that it’s a completely different product now.
First, the fabric is different. It feels more like Taema's fabric, while the old version had more texture. Second, the new design is much larger. I used to wear size M, but now size M is too big in the shoulders and sleeves.
It's a pity to see Arc'teryx change this shirt in the wrong way.

Good for hot-weather, but fits a bit over-sized

I have a 2021 version of the Cormac and the XS fits perfectly - not too tight and not too loose.
I also have a 2022 version, but had to size up to a S. The 2023 version is pretty much the same cut as the 2022 - XS felt too fitted and S was a bit over-sized. I still like the Cormac for hot-weather activities, but wish they kept the same cut prior to 2022.

Arc’teryx is not Arc’teryx any more

The sleeves are made for giant they look really ugly not made for an athletic body. Arc’teryx has lost the plot they are now catering to people who only want to buy there logo. It’s sad to watch a good company being distroyed on purpose for more cash, they know there core customers doing this but they don’t care they want to make as much money as fast as possible before they go bankrupt

terrible redesign

I had the old version, which fit me perfectly in size small. However, the new one is awful. The arms are too long, almost reaching my elbows in small size, and the shirt itself is too long, causing it to bunch up. I give it one star for the fabric, which is light and breathes well while running.

The new fit (may 2024) is better than the previous one. But the sleeves are still too long (they reach the elbow!). And I still prefer the old fabric than this one.

Diese Shirts gehören zum Standardgepäck auf meinen Abenteuerreisen in warme Regionen. Sie sind super leicht, tragen sich total angenehm auf der Haut, vor allem bei hoher Luftfeuchtigkeit. Ich kann sieauch mal mehrere Tage hintereinander, ohne Waschen, tragen und sie stinken nicht. Und wenn ich sie wasche, sind sie ruck zuck wieder trocken. 3 dieser Shirts ersetzen 15 andere auf längeren Reisen.

Horrible material

I own a couple of archery t shirts. The material on this t shirt (compared to my others) is really uncomfortable. It is almost scratchy and horrible to do physical activity in.
Amazing given the cost. I really regret buying it.

Absurd changes

With such a substantive change in design it's really misleading to call this a "Cormac." The fit has totally changed and the sleeves are now ridiculously long. There wasn't anything particularly objectionable about the previous design, maybe don't mess with a good thing? Returned mine, wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Complete garbage. The old Cormac Crew was the greatest workout shirt ever made. I own 20 of them. It’s quite obvious that Arcteryx decided to cut costs with the new fit. There are far less panels and the stitching is minimal. The fit is the worst part. I’ve resorted to buying used versions of the older style on eBay. What a joke.

i agree with this review , i had several of the old style T shirts which were brilliant, I then bought two of the new style and the material was so different: i ended up sweating in the new ones whereas the old ones were genuinely breathable . I feel ripped off to be honest. Would appreciate a refund on these two latest shirts : I note this is now listed as revised but dont know I can trust the material now!?

The fit of this new design is awful and not like the old Cormac of a few years ago. The Cormac was my go to for years and probably have owned 20-25 in total. The new sleeves are so long, awkward, and uncomfortable. Arcteryx, please shorten the sleeves, a lot.

Revise ASAP

Sleeves are too long and tight, feels like a compression shirt. Old design/sizing on the shoulders and arms were better. Material is okay but the fit of the shirt needs to be revised ASAP.
