About as durable as paper

Dont Rush into buying “strongest gortex”. I purchased this jacket on Thursday December 22nd and went slack country skiing, Sunday December 18th. To my dismay, going a snails pace skiing across the mountain my jacket was caught by a branch and torn into. With a hole now 2 inches wide and down (think triangle), my jacket has been compromised for performing. After reaching out to Arc’Teryx the team was willing to offer my tape to fix this hole (a copied and pasted response albeit because they gave me the alternative for a big hole to call them). With a final resolution to put a Gortex patch over the issue, a band aid solution for a brand new 1000$ jacket. If you are considering spending your hard earned money on a performance jacket. Think twice as the birds top of the line jacket rips like butter, and they will only fix it with tape.
Q: Pros:

pull string broke immediately. quality issue

I was very excited to receive this top-line ski shell. The first day I got the package, I tested all the pull strings, and they were all fine except for the one on the hood. One side of the string broke off from the end piece that holds them together. I wasn't using extreme force or anything close to that. Very disappointed that I found quality issues before I even started skiing. I was debating between the Burton gore tex pro jacket and this one, I trusted Arcteryx quality but gotta say this is very disappointing. Would not recommend spending tons of money and risking the chance of going through something like this.

Ok, so here we go ....

So, I tried to give this feedback direct to Arcterix, but they fobbed me off and said leave a review on the website, so here it is. To set the scene, I've skied for over 30 years, at about 30 different ski fields in over a dozen different countries, and I average about 3 weeks a year (or so) so I have a bit of an idea of what I'm talking about when it comes to ski gear. Now, I like Arcterix - I like the fact they have a decent selection of shells (both jackets and pants); the quality is very good, the colours are great and I love that they use GoreTex (and GoreTex Pro) but their jackets (particularly) lack features. My first gripe is that the hood is not detachable. If you have a look at all the skiers, on any particular day, at any skifield in the World, nobody wears the hood - except if its snowing heavily, or raining. If it's raining, most people leave, and of those that keep skiing, most do wear the hood as it keeps rain from soaking through the vents in your helmet. But then, how often do you ski in the rain? If it's snowing heavily, my estimate is about 15% of people wear the hood - which means 85% (approx) don't wear it. And why would you? Snow doesn't soak through the vents in your helmet (like it does if it's raining). You don't get cold because you have a helmet on, and the hood restricts your peripheral vision. And when you turn you head left or right, the hood doesn't move with you so you can't see to your left (or right). And if you simply don't wear it (like 85% of skiers) it flaps around in the wind, and fills up with snow. For God's sake, make it detachable. I bought a new jacket this year, a Marmot jacket - with a detachable hood. It's brilliant. The hood re-attaches is about 30 seconds if you need it, and if you don't - no hood filling up with snow, or flapping around. Just fold it up and stick it in your side pocket in case you need it. Next, the pocket Arcterix puts on the upper arm, to store your pass. Really, on the upper arm?? I think every single manufacturer in the World puts it on your forearm (except Arcterix), so that to scan your pass on a higher or lower (than usual) pass scanner, you simply raise (or lower) your wrist. Very easy. However if your pass is in a pocket on your shoulder, because you own an Arcterix jacket, and the scanner is higher than your shoulder, you have to try to jump up and down (wearing your skis, or your board) to get high enough for the scanner to read your pass. Same problem is there's a lot of snow, so the scanner is lower than usual - ever tried bending down to get your shoulder low enough to scan your pass when you're wearing skis (or boards) and the scanner is at waist height? Not easy. Pleeeeeeaaase put the pass pocket on the forearm. It's just so much easier. On the subject of pockets, the inside chest pocket is not big enough to store most phones, especially if they have a case. Why do I want to take my phone out of its case everyday so it fits in my ski jacket, then put the case back on the phone when I take my jacket off? Wouldn't it be simpler to make the pocket just a little larger? And put a little insulation on the front side of the jacket, between the phone pocket and the shell, to make the phone battery last a little longer in the cold. And put two, inside chest pockets on your jackets - I need somewhere to put my wallet AS WELL as my phone. Oh, and I need two side pockets to put 'stuff' in, like a handkerchief (because my nose runs in the cold) and a chocolate bar to munch on when I'm hungry, and to put my car/accommodation keys in. It's all pretty simple stuff, if you think about it. My new Marmot jacket has all this stuff. And it's a shell - why can't you do this as well, Arcterix? I'd love one of your shells, and your pants, but until they're more 'user friendly' I'm going to keep wearing my new Marmot jacket. Yes, the colour is a bit boring, but the features are brilliant. And I don't have to jump up and down to scan my pass.

You left this exact same comment on another jacket. So did you buy both jackets or are you just looking for more space to vent? And btw, if you adjust the hood properly you won’t have visibility issues. Also shells like this are designed for athletic movements, you’re not supposed to store half the kitchen in the pockets.

Very good first impression!

I just received my Rush jacket in med size. I am 5’9’’ 160 lbs ans sizing is good. It’s a long jacket which I think is perfect for skiing/snowboarding. I don’t think the fit is large, it’s just a little longer than a more versatile style like the Beta because of its intented use. It’s light and the gore tex material looks and feel great. A lot of adjustments for the hood are possible. I’m sure I will like it!

100+ days of skiing in Rush

I have logged 100+ days in my Rush and it is bombproof. Powder days, rain, and sub-zero, all taken in stride. I wear a M in everything (5'8" 170 lbs), including this jacket. It is a roomier fit, but great for layering, even with a Thorium AR on the coldest of days. A removable powder skirt would be my only recommendation. Pockets are terrific.

Stormproof and time tested

The Rush shell has come through for me as the best all round ski shell I've found yet. With burly fabric, a fit that allows layering options and features that have a versatile use for resorts and backcountry. While the jacket excels in wet stormy conditions that we get often in the PNW with its robust fabric and 3 layer goretex. I've found it very useful as a backcountry shell for cold dry conditions as it allows me to layer up. The new version has two internal stuff pockets that can fit skins, gloves or a couple of sandwiches. Typically I'll wear the Rush in the resort over a wool baselayer and my Proton LT. A vest or fleece works well for colder conditions without feeling crammed into it. My one gripe is that the powder skirt is a bit tight and could be removable. We don't get super light snow out the PNW so I never use it snapped together but will clip it to my Sabre AR pants if I remember
Q: Pros:
A: Burly, Great fit. Pocket layout
Q: Cons:
A: Powder skirt could be removable.

Massive gap in sizing

I really wanted to buy this jacket however the sizing is way out of whack. In a medium I couldn’t even zip it up with a sweater on. The large was like wearing a garbage bag. It was massive. What’s with the length in the sleeves? They were literally 6 inches past my fingertips. You offer short length pants, I would strongly recommend considering the same with your jackets. You’re cutting out any customer who isn’t a skinny medium or a 6’5 basketball payer.
Q: Pros:
A: Nice build quality and colour ways
Q: Cons:
A: Sizing is way off
Q: Activity
A: Skiing

Great For Outdoor Sports

This jacket is great for outdoor sports. It has a very tough face fabric and has been waterproof just about every chance it can be. I have been snowboarding for years and have always had my Rush on hand for larger colder mountain days. The only drawback I have is that the jacket should be in the “relaxed” fit catáfora instead of the “regular” as it is roomy. This is NOT an issue on the mountain when layering, but if it’s a bit warmer out and I’m only wearing a fleece as a layer I’m switching over to my Beta in the same size for a bit more fit. All in all a very good outer shell, especially with the powder skirt. I am 5’11” at 145 Lbs and wear a small.
Q: Pros:
A: Great Wind/Water resistance
Q: Cons:
A: A little roomy.

Hood pull string snapped off...Twice

Purchased this a few days ago. As soon as i try to tighten the hood by using the pull string, one side of the string immediately snapped off from the plastic piece that holds them together (yes i did squeeze on lock to unlock it). It was a pretty gentle pull, i did not treat it like i was tring to choke someone. Exchanged for another one and exact same thing happened. First try on both of them. I did not even use them on the ski resort yet, just merely put it on and try it at home. Trying to see if the string can be reinserted into the plastic piece, but it doesnt seem like there is a way to do that. Seems like onces it disconnects from the plastic it's done for. Don't know if i should exchange for another or just simply return it, because while i really want to like this jacket, im not feeling very confident in arcteryx's build quality and quality control now.

No, I do not recommend this product.

You can reattach it to the toggle with relative ease. The toggle will have a small seam and can be taken apart to reinsert the cords. Pop it back together and you’re all set.  Problem solved.

Arrived today!

I just received my Rush Skyrider after being backordered. I was surprised about the color difference between the website and reality, where the real color is more blue-green (darker turquoise) than blue and the difference between the dark and the brighter sections is not as distinct as on the web. Regardless of this, I like it and will update the review as I break it in.

Has Exceeded all Expectation!

I got the jacket about a year ago and it has been incredible. I have used it tons for resort days and numerous times for touring and it’s withstood everything I have thrown at it. The breathability is great for the days when you’re really working hard but it’s also done exceptionally well in days up to -35c paired with other layers. I would say just be careful of sizing and be sure before you by. I wear a lot of things in a medium at (5’10, 175lb) but the large has worked perfectly for me!

Absolute top quality, for those between sizes:

Just received my jacket and initial quality is absolute tops. I have tried many jackets trying to get one that fits right. I seem to be right between sizes right now so I was struggling. I have 34" waist. 44" chest. And fit large is most other jackets. Solano large fits perfect. Atom LT large fits perfect. I ordered the Sabre AR large and it was almost comically too big. Looked a bit ridiculous around chest and shoulders and I couldn't enjoy it. Quality was great and seems like a great jacket. But wasn't going to work for a winter shell unless I was ok with it being well oversize. The Micon fit very nice around the chest but the length was not my style at all. Beautiful jacket. If they make a short micon it will be another top pick. I got the Rush in shadow warrior which is a real nice colour scheme and the large fits absolutely perfect. Nice fit around the shoulders and arms and still allowing just enough movement. Fit is great without being too big.

A: Expensive, loud crinkle

Very good but ...

Purchased this jacket last year in the Glade Runner color. Was one of the nicest Shell I ever had. The only problem, it delaminated after only one season. I took good care of it, washing machine and dryer every few days. Arc'teryx is awesome, they exchanged it.

Awesome jacket for skiing

As other reviews mention, this jacket is basically bombproof, and looks great while protecting you from the elements. I've owned both the Sabre AR and the Rush, and would say both honestly do the same thing. If you can't find your size/color in one model, but can in the other, they're interchangeable. I'm 5'8" and 145lbs, and the size small fits pretty big, but for skiing I like that for proper layering in the upper New England area. I also wear it for severe conditions, but the size is a bit large for every day wear for me personally.
Q: Pros:
A: Waterproof/windproof, stylish
Q: Cons:
A: No XS option available

A: Skiing, shoveling, severe conditions

My previous Arc'teryx jacket had a defect that showed up after 11 years... let's just say, its many years of wearing it. Brought it back and was credited which allowed me to purchase this new model. Love it. Super well done and amazing quality as always.

Perfect

I purchased this Rush jacket at the end of last snowboard season (March 2021) so I haven’t had many opportunities to really test it out but from the short time I’ve had it seems to be rock solid. Can’t wait for the upcoming season!! I wear a men’s medium throughout the Arc lineup of jackets and this Rush fits inline with enough room to layer a base layer and an Atom LT. On really cold days I can even layer a Thorium SV underneath.

Does It All Shell

2nd Rush Jacket. Have used it for a few months now. Love the changes from prior models such as including a 2nd drop pocket. I take this touring, on the resort and even wear it around town. Performs above expectations always. Can always rely on it, have had it out in some downright nasty conditions and always come home dry. Note: I do find the current model a touch roomier than the prior models. Not enough to warrant sizing down but just something I've noticed.
