Versatile Jacket

I’m a 45yr old male, 5’8 and 170lbs and a medium fits well with room to layer. I like the jacket, but the arms are a few inches longer than I like for casual wear but it fills in better with a hoody or Atom LT underneath. As many have mentioned the hood is huge but can be cinched down for use without a helmet. I’ve used it for cycling and hiking with only a T-shirt in 5-18 degree Celcius but would be cold if you weren’t generating heat. I plan on using it in -10 Celsius conditions snowshoeing with a mid layer and confident it will perform well. DWR works well in light precip and this piece blocks the wind very well too!

Gamma LT Hoody

I am 6'1" and normally wear large jackets and clothing with Arcteryx. I got a large of this jackets and was swimming in it. Once I sized down the arm pit area is a little snug when I reach over my head (I climb in this piece) but the rest of the jacket fits like a glove. Not easy to layer as it is either super snug or super baggy. The material is great and has held up on granite and sandstone chimney terrain. I like it but feel I am somehow in between sizes.

Good for Slim and Taller Folks

I am 6ft4 3/4", 178lb, 39.5chest, 32waist. I wear a medium and it just fits in the torso and arms. I can also wear a baselayer and long sleeve underneath. This material allows for wind transfer, I tend to be warm most of the time so I like it during sport. Just layer up if you need to stand around or sit on the lifts between activity. I find this material does stretch out a bit larger with wear. I like this because it is fitted to begin with and has now contoured well to my shape and activities.

What a great shell

I had read a lot of great reviews on this jacket and had high expectations for it while I was waiting for it to arrive. Apparently my expectations were not high enough as this jacket is truly an amazing lightweight shell (you hardly feel as if you have it on) that is exactly what I was looking for. I am 5'10" and 160 and normally wear a medium in all jackets and tops and got this one in a medium. It is a perfect fit and what is so great about it is that I can wear it as a single jacket on top of a t-shirt or single long sleeve shirt, but also have any kind of layer under it (I often pair it with the Cerrium SL down hoody) and not feel too tight. It also fits well under a heavier shell. If you buy this jacket you will certainly not be disappointed.

Outstanding ski touring softshell

Purchased for ski touring, wholly up to the task. Provides sufficient warmth on warm(er) days, as well as with light insulation on cold(er) days. Sheds light precipitation with ease, and breathes well enough to prevent an internal drenching. Expect it will work well for three-season use (spring and fall hiking, etc.)

This jacket is by far the best shell I’ve ever owned. It is very comfortable and breathable, I wear it as an outer layer when I’m outside in the fall and as a jacket I wear around the city and when I travel it always comes with me. Worth the price, I can definitely recommend it.

Wierd fit - certainly not athletic

I bought these softshells for a team of us who run outdoor sports at a school. We are all pretty athletic but these fit no one very well They are pretty long which is fine, but the bottom of the jacket is so tight it doesnt get round your bum so it just hitches up. Therefore lots of us had to size up to find one that went round the bottom properly. But it's then really baggy around the tummy. If you put anything in the pockets it bulges and looks very unflattering. Generally everyone's jacket just looks like they have massive tummies. This isnt just me, but everyone who tried them.

2017 is much shorter.. with the tight waist.. and also tight armpits. My 2016 medium fits perfect (175lb, 6ft4, 32waist, 39-40 chest). Not sure what the 2018/19 version is like. But would like to see them go back to the 2016 variation. Ill be returning the 2017 (not sure why sportchek is selling 2017 models at full price anyway...[11/30/2018]) The picture shows the 2016 in green and 2017 in black

Perfect except for one thing!

This jacket is a perfect all arounder, durable enough for off trail bushwhacking, minimal lines for urban wear, weather resistant for shelter to shelter exposure, the main issue I have with the jacket is the lack of fastenable cuffs. In a size that fits me perfectly everywhere else, the sleeves are too wide/long for my arms, especially when I want to seal out moisture/cold. This issue is quickly remedied with other jackets that have adjustable cuffs, where the extra length/width is shored up with a Velcro strap fastened at the wrist, but the Gamma LT lacks any such feature. There is an elastic panel on the cuff, but it isn’t tapered enough from the rest of the sleeve to have much affect. Arc’teryx, in the next iteration of this jacket PLEASE consider adding an encircled elastic cuff tapered similar to the Gamma MX, or a Velcro fasten so that those for whom the sleeves aren’t anatomically matched will have a way to make them fit. Thank you!!

I LOVE this thing. I wear it everywhere, most recently to a summit in Kananaskis, in rather warm for winter temps, but still chilly at the summit, and VERY windy. I had a thin base layer and fleece and was perfectly comfortable, even with about a -20 deg windchill at the top.

I have used this shell for XC skiing, snowboarding and hiking in temps from above freezing to about twenty degrees (with varying layers underneath. It handles light rain or snow well. The jacket breathes well and offers good range of motion. My only complaint is the lack of adjustable cuffs. I prefer to wear gloves that fit under the jacket cuff and the lack of adjustability at the cuffs makes this difficult.

Decent Jacket!

This jacket is great for the purpose I bought it for. It was intended to be a (soft)shell to wear during spring, summer, and fall. I typically run hot, and wanted something that I would not over heat in when wearing a tshirt etc. This did the job! It is quite tight fitting, so it was hard to layer beneath (atom sl etc.), but I did not buy it with that intention- so I cant be disappointed with that. For a great soft shell, I dont think you can go wrong with this jacket. Like I said, for me it fits a bit tight but it has served me well!

Love this jacket. Live in Vancouver where it rains a ton but isn't too cold. This is perfect for city living and even works on top of a fleece for a ski shell. Not waterproof, so not designed for downpours, but light rain and snow is no issue. Breathes very well.

Breathable, durable fortress

I've tested the gamma lt in a variety of weather climates, from 20 F to 65 F, with a different layering options. I chose the cypress green color, which is subdued and very functional for athletic and city life. Underneath, the small gamma lt fits beautifully with an atom sl hoody, atom lt hoody, and the cerium lt hoody. All are sized small, but the cerium is by far the snuggest fit (but still very functional). The true strength of this jacket is its breathability, but windproof qualities. I can layer this jacket over a midlayer and exert a lot of energy during long hiking ascents or scrambling, yet remain very warm on exposed, windy peaks. The fabric is bombproof, yet stretchable. Scraping against rocks, ice, and trees doesn't worry me. The waist cord adjustments means that your less durable layers underneath can always be protected. The jacket also layers wonderfully underneath my Beta SV when things get really severe. Some tidbits that I'm less enthusiastic about. While the hood is amazing, and the back head adjustment is quite simple and easy, the neck drawcords are lacking in their ease and adjustment. Its very hard to get a good fit with this adjustment unless you take your jacket off and consider the length of each drawcord. I've washed this jacket once and found that the no-slip zipper had come completely undone. I've noticed that with some movement during exercise that this can also occur. Again, not a huge problem, but sometimes it is unexpected. All in all, this jacket is perfect for a variety of conditions and energy outputs. I'm sure that for snowshoeing and backcountry skiing that is will also perform admirably.

Mon meilleur investissement

Great Softshell

I've used this jacket so far in quite varied conditions, from cold high speed winds to being caught in unexpected downpours, and I have been impressed with it. The first thing of note is the material. This is the uninsulated version of the gamma; it is just a shell, and I find this to be useful for my layering system. The fabric can withstand wind and light rain well - it's important to note it is neither wind nor rainproof being a softshell, but I have found it to be very resistant, so long as the DWR finish is fresh. That being said; it is incredibly breathable and for this reason it is now my go to jacket for dry windy days. The cut of this jacket is superb for climbing. Underarm gussets allow one to reach high without the sleeve pulling down, and the jacket is trim enough not to get snagged on rock. The size of the garment is also fantastic - as mentioned this jacket has no insulation, and I layer it with either a microfleece or a light down jacket, depending on the temperature. Both of these things fit underneath it without causing any restriction of movement. All in all this jacket fends off most weather (within reason), and is tailored to be incredibly useful for climbing.

Yes, I recommend this product.

thicker version of the psiphon fl

I would describe this softshell as a thicker and more weather resistant version of the psiphon fl. If you are coming from a gamma mx this softshell will feel drastically different in materials and features, more importantly adjustable cuffs. Overall, I would not recommend this piece since i have a psiphon jacket and this is a fit between that piece and the well-known gamma mx. It has less storage pockets but gains some warmth through its thicker material. I would not consider this piece insulated but as a windbreaker it does fairly well. This piece is quality constructed, the zippers arcteryx sources are decently sized and provides ease in zipping up and starting. The zipper does not catch easy or gets jammed at the bottom and i appreciate arcteryx not using dual zippers that zip up from the bottom as those are more likely to fail. The piece is a decent wind deflector, not the best and i would layer with something to provide additional coverage. Water resistant wise its decent, not as effective as its heavier set brother the mx but this is not surprising as its meant to be light weight. The gamma lt makes a great everyday piece here in the PNW and is probably a good all season jacket. If you have a psiphon and mx i would suggest you save money and buy something else, however, if you want a piece like the psiphon, this would make a better alternative. Sizing is pretty accurate, might want to size up if you want to layer. Best is to try one on at a store.

5'10" 160 ordered medium. fit pretty snug, exchanged for large. prefer the extra room in arms, chest, back/ length. I'd say size up so you can layer and not feel so restricted. Fits well over Large covert hoody. excellent soft shell material neoprene like, semi stretchy, and durable. keep the jacket zipped up with the front pockets opened and it is like you have flank vents. you can tell the material is very breathable as soon as you put it on.
Prosquality material, multiple adjustments, perfect length, doesn't ride up with moving arms, way better cut than my theta ar, long in the back
Conshood is pretty large/ helmet fitting but can sinch, zipper doesn't lock in place, imported

Yes, I recommend this product.

I got this after trying several waist length soft shell jackets like the MX and a couple of LEAF variations... the hip length is very nice especially for larger guys. The stretch is great but it also keeps you from comfortably layering anything medium or thicker... I generally use a thin fleece or street wear. In a pinch I can get an Atom LT but the jacket looks "full". So I was hoping for a more versatile temperature range but with thinner layering options I think it's optimal high 20s - low 40s F. I'm 250# 6-0 big shoulders mesomorph long arms and it fits perfectly over streetwear. I didn't think I'd like the stretch cuffs but for the moderate temps I use this for they work fine with my thinner gloves. I see the 16-17 colors and trim are muted whereas the somewhat tactical Basalt I have from 15-16 has garish bright orange zipper pulls and hardware that I am not fond of but otherwise it is near perfect jacket for the intended range. I wish Arcteryx would bring some of the LEAF styling over to the consumer range, not everything needs to look like 1988 Chamonix ski movies.
