Perfect as a stand alone jacket and mid-layer

For me, this is the one layer to rule them all. I run quite cold even during the warmer months so this jacket never leaves my pack. The breathability and durability of of the fabric makes this jacket nice to climb in, approach in, and to keep me warm after climbing. The zippered chest pocket is a bonus when you need to carry a phone around too.

Perfect Proton

I’ve had two proton jackets from Arc’teryx. This third one is one of the best, both the color is great, and the fabric is holding up incredibly well in wet weather.

One of my favourite jackets!! It’s still light weight and versatile. I have many atom jackets and the proton just provides a bit more warmth for that colder weather! Love it!

Best all-round hoody!

Seriously fantastic functional hoody! I just summited Mt. Whitney and used this jacket for my top layer as there was no rain or snow forecasted. It was SO warm I ended up only needing it for the last few miles before the 99 switchback when there was a very cool patch—plus hiking in the dark. I use it walking my dog on cold mornings. I’m 6’1 and sized up to a xl for layering room and it’s perfect!

One of my best purchases from Arc'teryx!

I can't say enough good things about this jacket. I bought it last year because I liked the orange color and planned to use it backpacking and as a insulated later while snowboarding. I backpacked the Wonderland Trail around Mt Rainier Sept 24-Oct 3 and we had some very chilly mornings in the 30s and I layered this over the Motus hoody and was able to stay nice and warm without overheating while gaining some serious elevation changes throughout the day. It breathed well and also acted as a nice wind layer. I never needed to put my shell jacket over the top. The cuffs are quite tight which made getting to my watch a little tricky but that also kept the wind and chill out so was a useful feature. I was stuck between this and the Atom jacket for a synthetic option and ended up with this one since it was for high output activities. Very happy with this choice! Also love that they make this is sizes that fit smaller petite people like me:)

Favorite all-around jacket

The Proton Hoody has quickly become my favourite all-around jacket, taking the place of my Atoms. I'm petite with an athletic build, and I love the fit. The hood fits well with or without a helmet, and the sleeve cuff material is comfortable and great for in-and-out of gloves. Just looks and feels great across a variety of activities, and a really nice weight.

Chest pocket FTW!

I really like the proton, as it's everything you get in the Atom. However, you have a chest pocket with the same insulation, which makes a huge difference! I went up a size as I have large shoulders but smaller hips :)

This jacket is the superior cragging jacket from temps in the 40-60F range. It provides more warmth than the atom, and is lighter and more easily packable than the alpha or other parkas.

Better than the atom!

Love! I run quite cold even in the warmer months. I’ve tried other synthetic jackets similar to the Atom but get too hot while climbing. This jacket is the perfect staple. You can throw a polartec underneath in the shoulder seasons and stay a comfortable temperature and it breathes well in warmer temperatures without feeling clammy. Looks great too! The chest pocket fits a large iPhone which is wonderful on multipitches.

Not the quality i expected

Very disappointed Got the proton in as a replacement of my older atom ar. on the advice of the arcteryx team, i got the proton since it was abrasive resistant (more suitable for my use) But got so much tears (over the first year) where the clips of harnesses and backpack are, that it is cover in patches from now. Should have stay with the atom who had been pretty well over 7years. I contacted the customer service teams, since the warranty is no longer unlimited (it was when i first buy the jacket) they are not sure if they could do something. Waiting for evaluation of the jacket at the moment.

Love this jacket

FINALLY the perfect jacket. I have had several Arc'teryx jackets in the past, and I was looking for something similar - synthetic insulation but lightweight for hiking, back country skiing and other sports. This is it. I tried both small and medium and found the medium to be better fit so I can layer underneath although I am a small in base layers.

Love this jacket. It fits me better than the atom...small is too large in the atom and XS is a bit short in the arms. Size small works great in the style. We need more color options in this. The men have 4 currently. We also need a light weight version....I see the men have one as well but I'm not seeing one for the women.

A staple!

I bought the Proton about a month ago and have been wearing it almost everyday. It's good for everyday use and it's been a great layer under my Beta Jacket when skiing (so far I've still been warm at -5 deg celsius with a good base layer as well). I went with a Small vs X-Small so I can still fit hoodies/sweaters under without feeling too constricted.

The perfect jacket you didn't know you needed

Bought this years ago and I love it so much, its has been on every adventure with me. It fits well, breathes well and is super comfortable and flattering. More durable than you'd expect. I climb with it, and it's surprising abrasion resistant. It's water-resistent and keeps you warm while allowing you to move and it's fitted and hits at the perfect length on the hips to be snug under a harness.

Best jacket!

Haven't taken this off since I received it. Great colour and fit. I chose boxcar in a size medium, fits me perfectly with a little room to layer a sweater underneath if needed. Will be using this under my beta SV on cold ski days. For size reference I'm usually between a M and L but have broad shoulders so sometimes a M is a little snug - but this fit is perfect for me.

Paid a higher price, got the old version

I bought this for my friend. I paid $350 as marked on the website, but when my friend received it, it was $300 on the price tag. Obviously they shipped the unsold old version to me. Also the jacket is not as thick as my men’s version which I bought couple of years ago. It will more like a light version of the jacket. I contacted the customer service and never heard back from them. Now they charge premium price for 0 customer service. Why would you buy from them? I would not recommend to buy any product from them anymore.

Nice, but the fit seems odd

After wearing my Atom LT (original) for 7 years, I decided it was time for a new one. Based on reviews I opted to try the Proton without trying it on. Similar to the Atom in feel and look, the fit is not as I expected. The sleeves are much longer; the body is also much longer with a flair at the hem; and the mid body is fairly roomer - not a close, “flattering” fit like the Atom. I bought this in a small based on my Atom and size guide. While I am keeping the jacket to try it out through the winter, I will most likely revert back to the Atom line in the future.
