Amazingly durable!

I've had this shell jacket for over 10 years and it's been an incredible piece of gear. It mostly lives in my pack as a standby for bad weather as I do better in softshell jackets (I get warm very easily) but when I’ve needed it to withstand harsh cold winds or a winter storm, putting it on felt like entering a cozy protective shelter.
After a decade of use, the only 2 issues I’ve had are: the lower back pull-string (no sure how it's called) which I asked a friend seamstress to take off and seal/sew flat. It must have been rubbing against backpacks I wear or something.
And the inner cuffs, which started fraying and I had to trim off. They could benefit from being taped or sealed on the inside.
As for the fit, I wish the back was a little longer for better coverage, especially in wet conditions and the cuff velcro a tad longer as I often wear it over multiple layers and my wrists area is "thicker" than wearing a simple sweater under. (if that makes sense?)
Overall, this has been an amazing purchase, reliable and of impeccable quality with the durability speaking volumes about its craftsmanship. If you want a jacket that lasts, this is it. Highly recommend!

Best shell

Best winter shell I've ever had. Take care of it (re-waterproof when you need), and it will take care of you! Has kept me dry hiking in many downpours, and it's breathable enough with good pit zips to keep me dry when ski touring.
Fits a bit big, like they already accounted for you to put it over mid-layers. I'm 5'0, athletic build, 120lbs and have a Small Beta AR which I've used for the past few year, but wish I had gotten a XS for the Beta AR (I wear an XS Atom that is a perfect fit). Sleeves are long for me, but that is true for most brands and jackets at my height. Even a bit big, the size still works great and isn't cumbersome. Nice touch that the hood fits over a helmet and can be cinched. Never had any leaks or quality issues, even after a few years - zippers are actually waterproof!

I love this jacket for hiking, skiing, and daily living. The only tweak I would make is that the collar/neck tube sits a bit too high around the mouth and it’s a bit uncomfortable.

I love!! my Beta AR. I got the original AR last year in Sapphire and it is my go to rain and truly all weather jacket. I find it most useful on rainy chilly Fall/Winter hikes. The Goretex keeps me dry and the multiple use pockets + synch features make the jacket ideally technical snug and supportive. It feels almost too technical for everyday use but I get good use out of it on terrain when in the mountains or at the crag. One of my favorites!

Great jacket; poor customer service

This is my third Beta AR jacket. Clearly, I love them. I’ve been waiting for a color way that I like to get a new one, finally found the Eden. It’s a lovely green! Fit is the same as previous jackets. My problem was that the jacket came with an anti-theft device attached. Customer service said I would need to ship it back to them to have it removed (initially they said I would have to pay for the shipping and get a gift card refund). Then they said that they emailed me a UPS label, which I never got. Finally, my husband smashed the tag and we removed it. But the experience was awful.

Great for snowboarding, trendy and high quality!

I purchased this jacket in the Orca colorway last winter (white with black logo) and wore it snowboarding and snowshoeing. I really loved the color and the fit. It was roomier than the previous Beta jacket from 2019 that I had but still cut nice. The pit zips were super nice to have to cool down. Wind and water resistant even in a heavy snowfall I stayed warm and dry. I like the inner pocket for holding my electronic ski pass. My only complaint is that the white stains easily (which I should have known). I assumed it would wash out with ease but once you get a black mark on it from rubbing on something it doesn't come out, even with proper care instructions and the Arc'teryx Gortex wash. I docked one star for that.

Like the jacket - the green color is a tad “off”. It’s a Kelly green, which some might love, but a bit too yellow/grey for my taste. I traded for black. Too bad there aren’t better colors.

I love the beta AR jacket, especially the hood and durable Goretex Pro fabric. But I’m holding off on buying it because of the colors. They won’t work on a lot of skin tones.

Best waterproof jacket on the market

I have been using my jacket now coming up two years and still absolutely love it. Its easy to store away and beads rain perfectly. I went for a size up from my normal size to fit layers underneath when camping and the fit is perfect. The hood adjustment also makes wearing the jacket very comfortable in heavy downpour and fits well under a harness.

i was hesitant with this jacket since its very expensive, but honestly its worth every penny for me. its absolutely waterproof and protects me from cold winds. good to layer with a down jacket underneath for warmth. very durable fabric too, will probably last you very long if you take good care of it.

I bought this jacket some time ago and I love how packable and light the jacket is. I had no issues when I washed the jacket and followed the care instructions carefully. After washing the jacket is looks like new and always keeps me dry! I love wearing it when I go hiking or just outside for a walk. I love that the collar is protecting you from the wind as well and the hood is adjustable. The zippers are watertight and the jacket has not disappointed me yet! Super reliable and durable.

I recently bought this jacket for my mountaineering trips—first impression. I love the colour: Yukon/Amaranthus/Edziza. The material is fairly thin, and I hope it can withstand my outdoor activities. My late winter jacket pick!

I got this jacket for a late winter alpine objectives. Lightweight enough to cram in your pack but still great protection from the elements combined with the loose fit makes it easy to layer and adapt to the big temperature swings this time of year. I'm usually a solid medium in all my arc'teryx jackets, but I opted for a large because I was nervous this jacket would feel short or more fitted compared to my preferred relaxed fit winter jackets - I was wrong, totally could have gotten a medium but have learned to love the extra space. :)

I bought this jacket because i needed a light weight jacket for hiking and have always been pleased with the performance of Arc’teryx products since they came out. My only complaint is I cannot tighten the collar enough when walking into a strong head wind. Still prefer it to the storm hood most of the time.

I am on my second beta AR jacket now, my second one was replaced by warranty.
This is my go-to jacket for every season; camping, skiing, climbing, etc.
It is really easy to layer under and packs down really small.
My only complaint would be the colour choice and my second jacket I did size down because it seemed a lot bigger.

I've had this for a few weeks and so far here's my assessment:
Pros: waterproof and windproof
Love the color
Fot is good overall
Hood is very adjustable and easy to see in - best one I've had
Collar also very adjustable - this is great

This jacket is fantastic

I bought this jacket for an upgrade to my old shell jacket I had. So happy I got this style, I absolutely love the separate collar from the hood. It was the style factor that won me over when I was originally looking at hard shells. Had kept me dry in all winter weather conditions while guiding clients. Would recommend to anyone looking to upgrade or purchase their first hard shell. Quality is great!

Best shell I’ve ever owned hands down!

Best waterproof shell I’ve ever had! Fits great and performs great. I sometimes use it just as a raincoat in the spring but mainly as a waterproof outer shell over my down coat.

I expect better arcteryx!

I bought this jacket as a waterproof, windproof outdoor jacket. For $700...you think it could perform as well as a garbage bag. I found this jacket soaked right through. You can buy way cheaper rain jackets that perform just as well.. I have bought 2 cerium puffer jacket, an insulated ski coat and a long parka too. I have invested heavily in arcteryx and I expect better for the money paid. I have written to arcteryx customer service and depending on the outcome, I will revise my experience. These products should perform. Period. No excuses, no special products to maintain. As a said, a garbage bag performs better only is not breathable and doesn't look as good.

Sometimes garments do not maintain its waterproofness because it is dirty. We recommend washing and reapplying DWR on your garments to reactivate the waterproofing. If your garment looks or feels dirty or is no longer beading water, give it a wash. With Heavy use (e.g. heavy activity) – wash every 5 to 8 days of use. With Light use (e.g. day to day) – wash every 10 to 20 days of use.
