I have worn this parka through much of this ski season. It is very warm and, for the most part, highly functional. Zippers are very stiff but suspect that is a function of their weather proofing and may improve with time. Only material issue is the hood comes off too easily because it snaps on rather than zips, have had it come off when just trying to snap it up on the lift. But for the most part the warmth of the jacket and wearing a helmet and buff has obviated the need for the hood. A "nice to have" would be an exterior chest pocket.

A few things stand out to me about this jacket - soft Gore-Tex, which is great, given that my basic use for this is skiing or wearing around town. The warmth of this jacket is real, and it's not as bulky as I had expected. To some degree this is less bulk than the conventional set of layers I wear. Collar is nice and retains warmth and soft. The sleeves are oddly long, but that is my only bit of feedback.

My go to Jacket for the season. Very warm and light weight.

Got this jacket in the spring of 2020. Just started to wear it this past winter. Most days all that is needed is this jacket and a single layer underneath. Temps where I’m at range from 20F to mid 40F in winter. But lots of public transportation. So outside for most of the day. As for the fit. The arms are a little bit longer but it’s a ski jacket. It’s made for maximum arm movement. After realizing that it makes sense to me. And it makes for a better day to day wear also. Most jackets I’ve had in the past. To include military uniform winter jackets. All have had noticeable arm restrictive motion. This one doesn’t. So it’s different but in a good way after you realize it’s intended use.

I wore an arcteryx shell overtop a bunch of layers for a long time. It worked great but it was heavy. After 12 years it was time to retire the shell. I found this jacket and loved the idea of not wear so many layers. I wore this jacket for a few days in Park City with only a t shirt underneath. It preformed flawlessly. Extremely comfortable and warm. If it starts to get too warm you can quickly undo the pit zips or just do the main zipper down to get some more airflow. I highly recommend this jacket.

I ordered this jacket online, comfortable in knowing that the many Arcteryx jackets I have owned over the years in a size Large fit me perfectly. There are definitely things I like about the Macai jacket but in the end, the fit is very unusual. Very long arms and a very tight fit around the collar. The arm length is just strange. But the tight neck and collar makes it too uncomfortable for skiing in cold weather. The very time this jacket is intended to be used.

Very dissatisfied with the quality and service of Arc'teryx. This year it's been 4 years that every winter I have to send my Makai coat to Vancouver for repair for the same problem, the zipper that doesn't close anymore. It's ridiculous, this $1100 coat spends most of the ski season flying 4,500 km round trip by plane between my home and the Arc'teryx repair shop in Vancouver. For a company that claims to be eco-friendly, I think it's more about greenwashing than sustainability. Furthermore, the customer service is absolutely not comprehensive once the product is purchased. Their speech begins with "you're not going to like it... "followed by " ... the terms and conditions of the warranty application are at our discretion, anyway there is nothing you can do... » At least, the fabric wears very quickly at the ends (sleeves and bottom) and the friction of the Velcro wrist tears it .

I bought this jacket mainly because it is rated as one of the warmest ski specific jackets available and it has not disappointed. I have skied in -15c (-18c wind chill) and walked the dog in -18c (-28 wind chill) and it kept me comfortably warm at all times. It has great features for skiing: The shell fabric is tougher than expected and has not torn or marked up against tree branches. It is also very windproof including the front zipper even at high speeds. The fit is excellent. I am 5’10 and 175lb and medium is perfect with plenty of room for a mid-layer underneath. The sleeves aren’t as long as expected based on other reviews and they fit perfectly over gloves or under gauntlet mittens to provide a good seal. The length of the jacket is a bit longer than my previous coat and perfect as it keeps your back covered when bending over to adjust boots etc. The pockets are all good and practical. The small breast pocket that has been mentioned in other posts as impractical holds both a ski key lock and car key fob together. The only improvement I would recommend is a larger zip pull on the internal breast pocket as it is a bit finicky even with gloves off. The pocket itself is plenty big for a medium sized phone and energy bar so will likely hold a large phone with no problem. The large hand pockets are plenty big and deep enough that you wont easily lose something even if you leave one unzippped. The powder skirt is easy to fasten and unfasten and stays in place. The hood works very well when skiing with a helmet. It is easy to pull up and down with mittens on and provides enough lateral vision to easily shoulder check when crossing a trail. The pit zips are also easy to work with mittens. The only cold spot I have felt was in the arm area of the pit zip when only wearing a baselayer and vest on the coldest day which was fixed when I switched to a sweater mid-layer. All in all I am very happy with this jacket and expect to get many years of warm, comfortable skiing in it.

I am very pleased with my Macai jacket, it literally covered every single base when it comes to what I look for in a jacket, gortex and ultimate durability against Mother Nature, down to stay warm, large good to go over a helmet, pit vents with mesh, large opening cuffs to go over large mitts, even a small goggle wipe in the pocket, Arcteryx literally thought of everything and I couldn’t be happier. Another quality product from my favorite outdoor company

Bought this as a winter upgrade to existing Arcteryx jackets. As expected, the quality, look and feel is great. However, the arms are ridiculously long - a good five inches for me ! Especially as a winter sports model where gloves would also likely be worn, it seems odd, and poorly thought out at pattern making. Disappointed as had very high hopes for the Macai.

Love this jacket. I don’t use it for skiing but for cold and damp winter days. Fantastically warm and very waterproof. Awesome

I had a 2015 model of this jacket. A small issue with a pocket zipper found me with a 2020 model. I couldn’t ask for a better jacket. Warm during -40°C and then keeps me dry when the weather warms up. I can wear this jacket comfortably from 0°C to 40°C with no need for layering.

3 years old. Beat the crap out of it. Still great. For you who complain “...standing around at -30 I’m cold...”, well this jacket wasn’t designed for that. It’s a SKI jacket. So that’s not Arc’teryx fault. “...sleeves too long...”, not Arcteryx fault. You bought the wrong jacket/size. Quit complaining. Do your research and be more selective in what you buy. AND, warmth is subjective to many variables outside of Arcteryx control. Don’t cry because you are looking to get your money back. Anyway I’m happy after 3 years and just yesterday bought a new Macai and I’m sure I’ll be happy with this colour too.

Decent jacket if it were $700 less. The description on the site is a joke. Returned for a refund.

GREAT FUNCTIONAL JACKET GREAT FIT LITE STYLISH SNOW SHOVELING MAIN USE

Was able to find a deal around Black Friday to get this at 25% off and at that price it is well worth it. This is by far the warmest jacket I have ever had (I now just usually wear only a t-shirt underneath and sometimes that is even too warm on certain days). The only time I was ever cold using this jacket was during a -30 F day out in the Whistler backcountry, so on a regular day on the slopes you will be more than warm enough. Built in goggle cleaner is also a nice touch to the jacket. Only con to this would be the sizing - I originally ordered a Medium based off of the model descriptions on the site since I am a similar build. The Medium was far too snug in the armpit/shoulders area so I would highly suggest ordering a size up to ensure plenty of flexibility when wearing this jacket. Overall, would recommend this jacket to anyone who can afford the price point.

It looks sick, is very lightweight, love the detachable hood, and also like the high collar for added wind protection. Not to mention the down insulation is super warm and it cuts the wind like a beast. The Gore-Tex material is scientifically proven to stand up to water like Superman stands up to evils of the universe

Went snowshoeing with this brand - we hit a snowstorm with wind up to 30 mph. I didn’t feel cold nor did the wind bother me. I say if you can afford it buy it. I put this jacket to the test against wind, rain, and snow and it held up fine. I do a lot of hiking and snowshoeing year round.

For jacket that is 900$+ i expected so much more , my layering system with my old jacket that is HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS LESS kept me much more warm than this piece of crap . I took this to Colorado and I regretted it . I had to add more layer to stay decently warm and it made it uncomfortable. i reached out to arcteryx and no response . will NEVER buy arcteryx again

The jacket is basically perfect. I am 6' tall and around 175 lbs. Perhaps its my personal preference, but a SMALL is a perfect fit for me, as I prefer to have a tighter fitting jacket. That being said, it is not tight, simply more form fitting. Anyway, the down fill is exquisite with a Goretex layer that performs as you'd expect.

Well worth the money. Wish I had this setup years ago. I've never been more comfortable while skiing.

I love this jacket! A timeless piece, never too hot and not too cold (great static warmth and handles excess heat very well). Clean look and conservative style, adaptable for a variety of needs. Excellent material quality. Gore-tex shell isn't noisy/hard. Hood ideally designed for use with helmet, and not entirely ideal without. Pit zips have a mesh inside to keep snow out. I am not a tall person and would have preferred the length a little shorter.

Overpriced. Arms are too long. Sleeves are too wide. No cuff to serve as a snow guard inside of sleeves. Jacket is warm but it’s a bit of a loose fit in my opinion. I expected more at the price. Hood fits with a helmet but is a little awkward without.

Hesitated about spending so much on a coat for a while, but glad i finally bit the bullet. This coat really is warm, i can go without a jumper on a cold day that would normally have been required with my older coat. This is exactly what i wanted. It is well articulated too, and having tested it on the slopes just last weekend am very happy. This coat achieves a helluva lot.
