Light stretchy all-occasion jacket

The Gamma Lightweight is the piece I reach for the most for shoulder season activities, chilly summer evenings, and all-round travel jacket. It keeps the wind out well for how light it is. Stretchy - so it's easy to move in. Durable exterior - not as hardy as the thicker Gamma siblings - but I've no issues throwing this jacket around hiking, biking, and rock climbing, and it has held up well with no visible scuffs. Mind you I got it in white too. Water beads off beautifully when caught in the occasional shower. If you happen to be caught in a summer downpour in Japan like I did and wetted out (very fair considering it was 10 min heavy rain, this isn't a hardshell), it was drying by the time I found a station to duck in and the train came. Favorite travel jacket for how low maintenance and packable it is.

Keeps the wind out and keeps you nice and warm!

I bought this jacket a few months ago but I wasn't able to wear it because of the warm weather were I live, so I was happy that I could test my new hoody on our weekend getaway to Point Reyes (CA). On our hike at the coast it was very windy and chilly. I was pleasantly surprised by this jacket: it kept me nice and warm because it kept the wind out, but also not too warm when we were doing more active hiking. I like the sides because it is elastic, so it makes a nice fit around your waist. I also like the hoody part, but one downside was that it kept falling off because of the very windy circumstances. Therefore I give this hoody 4 stars.
On another trip I brought this jacket along in case it would be cold. This trip was by plane and I had no luggage, not even a carry-on. I only brought my backpack so I put the jacket in a gallon ziplock, took most of the air out and it fit nicely in my backpack. Great jacket! I would recommend this hoody to other people. It is very comfortable, weighs next to nothing and I love the style.

Quality, light and looks nice!

I got this lovely jacket for my partner two seasons ago and since then it is hers favourite summer jacket. She wears it everywhere she goes, be this to work or hiking - just can’t get enough of it. Protects well from windy Scotland’s weather and looks just great on her! It is also easy to wash it and overall maintenance. She loves it which makes me happy too!

Great lightweight jacket

Having become a recent lover of softshells, I've now added this to my collection as I had worn one from another brand to death. This feels much higher quality and the fit is really nice. I love the higher neck line in the Arc'teryx jackets as they keep the wind off so much better!

Best summer jacket

I am mainly a cyclist.This means I can heat up on a climb, and get chilled on the downhill. It is thanks to owning the Proton and Proton Light that I learned the value of breathable but warm in these conditions. The Gamma Light as my jacket for spring and summer has that same wonderful quality of giving me protection when I need it, but never causing me to overheat. It is substantial but light at the same time. Being out on the road, wanted a bright color. Was skeptical about “Groovie” but it was the only choice, Turns out to be a lovely color, now one of my favorites. The jacket was way expensive. But it is extremely well made. And works!

Great all round jacket

Bought this to fill that gap from winter to summer. It is the perfect weight & thickness and super wind proof. I love it and wear it for running & biking. Pretty sure it will get a lot of use ski touring as well.

Wonderful to-go jacket

I bought this jacket today and I’m very happy with it! It feels very thin, light as a nothing, but yet when you put it on, it give you warmth and shelter from wind. Since it is so light weighted, I would grab it in my bag on my day hikes and even for a morning or night walk when it get a little bit chilly outside.

Happy with the quality and comfort of this hoodie. I bought it in Jupiter (burgundy). It’s a bit weird that that the pockets are a grey colour, so when you wear it unzipped, it looks mismatched. Otherwise, a good product.

weird sizing

Not sure what happened to Arcteryx sizing, but lately some shell jackets have very long sleeves. The sleeves in this jacket cover my hands all the way. I am 5'7 and wear medium. However, lately I noticed most of Arcteryx tops I need to size down to small. I bought this jacket in Small and it still felt too long in the sleeves and was hanging on me without any shape. Same goes for Alpha SV and AR shells - I tried on Medium and Small sizes with layers that I normally would wear in the mountains and the sleeves were all the way down covering my fingers, with Medium size being bulky overall and Small size a bit too small for all the necessary layers. It is quite disappointing as I have been using Arcteryx for years and it has always been my go-to for all mountaineering clothing. It is still a high quality material and product but the sizing has been off for some time now and I don't see any improvement.

So glad to hear this one has long enough sleeves! Will be ordering when it restocks. I find most Arcteryx women's clothing to be too short in the sleeves whilst too wide in the waist and hips. I hope other women's items get revised to longer sleeves, slimmer waist as well.

Just what I needed

I wanted a lighter weight, easily packable jacket for hiking and biking in wet conditions. I love my Beta, but this one is awesome in conditions less severe when you just need a reliable, waterproof shell. Now that I live in an island tropical climate, the lightweight nature of this jacket is perfect without being heavy or hot. It really is just what I needed. You won't be disappointed in this purchase. Fit is true to size.

Got this jacket as a gift and I love it. I wear it on every hike and it's also my daily jacket in the fall. Keeps me dry from the rainy weather. Jacket is also lightweight which is an added bonus!

Die Gamma SL Hoody ist nach meiner Erfahrung exakt, was sie verspricht, eine Jacke, die in ihren Eigenschaften bestens austariert ist: Sie trägt sich fantastisch leicht, liegt nah am Körper und macht dennoch jede Bewegung so perfekt mit, dass man sie kaum spürt. Auch bei leichtem Dauerregen und Wind hat sich die Jacke schon öfter sehr gut bewährt, sodaß keine zusätzliche Regenjacke erforderlich wurde. Als ausgesprochen angenehm empfinde ich auch die Rückenlänge: sehr gut schützend, aber nicht zu lang.
Die Gamma LS Hoody trage ich häufig, auch im Alltag, da sie sehr vielseitig ist. (Ich habe sie daher in mehreren Farben)

I love this lightweight, comfy jacket

I was looking for a lightweight jacket that was breathable and repelled water. When I'm hiking in the summers, I tend to run hot, which becomes an issue when it's raining. I wanted a jacket that wasn't as heavy as my hardshell, but still kept me dry. This jacket fits the bill. I wasn't too surprised by the weight. Arc'teryx SL jackets are definitely on the light side, but they don't skimp on features! I was more surprised by the stretch in this jacket. I didn't feel restricted at all when I had a pack on and I was able to move freely. I also liked having hand pockets. I have the squamish hoody as well and always wished there were more pockets. The only con is I ordered the jacket in Astral and the photo online made it look like it was blue-ish. However when I got it, it was definitely a blue/green color. I won't knock a star off for that because it's a personal preference.

I usually go to the SL when I know there's going to be some moisture. I have an older Squamish (2013) that doesn't repel water as well anymore. So I use the Squamish on dry but windier days and the SL when there's rain (not downpours) in the forecast.

From the second I tried this baby on I have been absolutely in love! The fabric is soooo awesome and stretchy and comfortable. I got a large (5'11") which was just loose enough that it's perfect to wear on its own or with the Atom SL underneath for extra warmth.
I've been wearing it out hiking and climbing and the material is just so ideal. It's light, packs down well, stretchy for movement at the crag, durable against the rock, great wind breaker as well. Also the inertia colour is gorgeous!

Perfect light weight jacket

This jacket is very light weight but seems to be made of durable material. It packs up small and is a great layer to throw in your backpack. The sleeves are a bit long and the fit is a bit looser, but that allows for layering. Happy with my purchase.

More Flattering Than Expected

I love softshell jackets like these and I was fully expecting to just add it to my collection, but this has to be my favorite by far. The material is extremely thin to the touch, but it is successful at keeping you warm and still feels breathable. It is also baffling how flattering this looks. It pulls in at the perfect places and is loose around problem areas like arm pits and shoulders. I have a large chest and box-like abdomen area and this softshell actually gave my torso the illusion of a waist and normal proportions, even when I sized up so I could wear a thick sweatshirt underneath when needed. Truly could not have asked for anything better.

So stretchy!

I was on the fence about buying this jacket. But holy cannoli and I glad I did!
I’m 5’9, 150 pear shaped with small waist and bigger hips/thighs. I bought this in a medium just like my atom jacket. I agree with the other reviewer who said if you would like to layover anything bigger than and atom SL underneath you will need to size up. However, the Gamma fits PERFECTLY over my atom and looks great!
This jacket has been the missing link in my outdoor repertoire. And with how teeny tiny it packs down and how little weight it is, I bring it EVERYWHERE. Alpine hike? Got it. AM ski tour? Most definitely. Spring rafting? Yes, even rafting, because sometimes you just want a nice wind layer that isn’t also a sweatsuit.
This sucker is DURABLE, soooo stretchy I think I could do yoga in it, and wind/water resistant for when you defy the weather man. I also use it running because I think the fabric feels nicer than my patagucci Houdini.

Great light weight jacket

Bought for hiking and cross country skiing and it's almost perfect. The only thing that bothers me every time I wear it is the zipper scratching my neck! The large neck is nice when the hood is up, but if the hood is down, it pulls the zipper into your neck. If the soft zipper cover were actually large enough to cover the metal part, this woould be a non-issue :(

love this! so lightweight and stretchy

I love this jacket! I have had the Gamma LT for a few years and it is great but is often just too much jacket (too warm) for really active pursuits. My Gamma LT is a size small but I got the Gamma SL in XS figuring I wouldn't be wearing a down puffy underneath, the fit is perfect with a couple of base layers or a light sweater underneath (I am 5'5" about 115lbs with decent shoulders and long arms). I love this for Nordic skiing because it is thin and stretchy, wore it mountain biking today and will wear it hiking. It's a great do it all jacket. If you are someone who gets hot while moving but still wants wind resistance, this jacket is it. Can't recommend enough.

Super jacket

I wanted a softshell jacket so treated myself to this one. When it arrived, it was not quite what I had imagined - it was thinner and seemed fragile. I thought about returning it, but decided to try it and was so pleased that I did. It has turned out to be my favourite coat for cool days as it is beautifully lightweight but strong and windproof. I cannot recommend it enough!

I bought this jacket for me in the men's version and this version for a lady friend of mine.
She really likes it.
Great summer jacket, you barely can feel it on. Good colours, fits well and actually keeps you warm for what it is. Nice stretchy fabric

Great fit and function

I bought this for a 3 day rafting trip, needing a light windbreaker/rain jacket. It is a wonderful product - lightweight, fits true to size (I am a Large in most Arc Teryx products and was in this as well), nice colors and packs well.

hiking, biking, running errands, walking the dogs--I wear this jacket everywhere. It is ultra-light yet offers ample protection against the wind and light rain. It is very stylish and flattering. I got tons of compliments on this jacket

Great lightweight jacket

I wanted something lightweight that I could wear hiking the trails or shopping in town and this is perfect for both! My only issue is that the sleeves are a little long and I have long arms so I usually have the opposite problem of sleeves being too short, but too long is better than too short (in my opinion).

Sleeve too long

I loved the material of the Gamma SL Hoody jacket. The sleeve is too long for my petite size. The low-profile elasticated cuffs cannot seal out the cold. If the cuffs come in velcro it might work out. The cuffs and length of my Atom SL Hoody is perfect. I wish you would do something for petite.

Very disappointed

I purchased this jacket after reading several reviews online all of which stated this jacket fits true to size. I've been a serious fan of Arcteryx for 15 years! I worked all over North America guiding in all kinds of insane weather and Arcteryx has NEVER let me down . Until now. The fit is so off!!! I'm historically a med but reviews suggested it's a slim fit and if you want any kind of layering go up a size, it might as well be an XL, two sizes too big. It's huge in the arms and shoulders but slim cut at the bottom and the zipper doesn't sit flat. I'm sorry to make this review but I don't want others to get stuck with an expensive jacket they can't wear.
