The cut of this jacket has extra room in the shoulders, perfect for ice climbing - you have full range of motion to climb, and the armpits don't get tight with layers underneath. I love that the zippers for the pockets work with having a harness on. This jacket is MVP for serious weather. Worth it.

Definitely an investment piece but could be worn for so many occasions. The ventilation zippers in the armpits are definitely helpful to cool down. I got the color Sprint so I will be easily visible. Some reviews say the material is heavy but I find it easy to carry around and it folds and rolls into it's hood easily for easy storage. The pockets are nice and big. Wore this in both hot and cold conditions and it's comfortable and and allows for physical mobility.

The zipper on my first SV Jacket splayed after one-and-one-half seasons of wear. My second and third SV Jackets did the same after one season of wear. Just driving down the road when the zipper splayed. Company said to wash every three wears - which I did. My mobile produced a highly visable black outline on the outside of the breast pocket. The black outline would not wash out. First two jackets did not produce a black outline. Would not buy again.

I bought this jacked ~ 10 - 11 years ago. It is seasonal for me in Chicago, so didn't wear it a lot as it is not insulated. I pulled it out of the closet this spring and the nice, flat seams that attach the zippers to the armholes are unglued completely on both arms. The same thing happened to one of the front pocket zippers. So my nice, "durable" and expensive jacket is full of holes. I am shocked and very disappointed. I did not spend $$$ on this jacket to have it literally fall apart. I know it's been a few years, but I don't care. I expected it to last longer than that, especially since I don't wear it but for a few weeks/months out of the year. Beware. Otherwise, I love the fit and style, and the wind/rain protection is outstanding.

This is a great jacket for skiing in inclimate weather. Or any weather… love the arm pocket for my ski pass which seems to be lacking in a lot of jackets now. The chest pockets are spacious and easily accessible. Material is heavy, seems really durable. Love the color!

With the harsh winter recently, I'm glad I purchased this jacket. It's versatile, reliable and durable. I love outdoors and this jacket protected me in heavy rain and snow. I can use it in my daily commute to work or when I'm up in the mountains.

I've been walking, hiking, and snowboarding in this jacket since I bought it. To me, it was worth the investment. If you’re an active individual, you would have no problem putting this jacket to use and being happy with the range of motion that you’d be able to do with it. All you have to do is adjust to the climate you're in. It’s a rainy, cold spring? Wear a merino long-sleeve under. It’s a warm fall? Wear a T-shirt. It’s a Canadian winter? Wear a merino long-sleeve and a thin down-filled puffer under.

Super manteau avec une attention particulière aux détails. Il résiste à des pluies/vents torrentiels, me gardant au sec et au chaud. Il est un peu plus épais que les autres coquilles en gore-tex et il est fabriqué au Canada (!!!). Great jacket with attention to details. It has held up to torrential rain/wind keeping me dry and warm. It is a bit thicker than other gore-tex shells and it is made in Canada (!!!). The only small point to improve is that the sleeves are longer than other Arc'teryx jackets of the same size. Excellent purchase that I do not regret!

This is my second Alpha SV jacket and provides exceptional weather protection. The materials and the durability are simply the best.

The best shell I have ever, will ever use. Truly feels like wearing armour. Not a single detail missed - stellar fit, perfect hood and collar shape, streamlined cuffs, extremely abrasion resistant, highest quality zippers. Performs perfectly ice climbing and mountaineering.

I got this jacket as a replacement for a 10 year old version (that right there speaks to the quality!). I love it! I use it all seasons, skiing in the winter, hiking in the spring and fall, and as a simple rain jacket in the summer. One word of caution, when you wash this (I have the bright yellow) the black liner shows through, I though my washing machine Had ruined my jacket and I was really upset. When I woke up the next morning and saw it was perfect I thought it was a miracle LOL.

Big picture: What can I say that hasn't been said already? This jacket is the gold standard of waterproof shells and every detail shows thought and design intention. When I need to stay warm and dry, this is the piece I go to every time. I received my jacket last winter (2021). It is my second Alpha SV jacket. I have to say, I do really miss the cut of the previous version. My qualms with this one are: sleeves are way too long now (I have to roll them up, twice, which isn't awesome when there's precip - it collects there). Even on full extension of the arm for full reaches, they are too long. The other issue I've had is that the neck gaiter/collar shape has changed. I'm assuming it's been altered to better fit a helmet under the hood (which the old one did fine btw). The problem I am having is that it seems tilted back and really tall, which means that other than when I am wearing a helmet, it's uncomfortable to do the zipper all the way up. I end up leaving it open a few inches when hood is down. Also not ideal. With the hood down, doing the zipper up to the top makes it really stick in towards your face, and it's much scratchier than the last version. Other than the specific cut, I like the sizing. Medium fits well with a layer underneath. It articulates well. I don't really care that it's much crinklier and louder than the last jacket (It actually makes quite a bit of noise when wearing). Honestly, I care more that it's durable and waterproof. This jacket still comes with me on every mountain adventure, however it now tends to live in the bottom of my pack for emergencies only, whereas my last jacket I wore for just about everything.

Great for cutting wind chill. Durable. Stayed dry.

So happy I bought this, its so comfortable and durable yet lightweight. I love that it folds up easily and I can toss it in my bag. The deep hood is especially nice on stormy days and the sleeves are perfect for my long arms. Keeps me nice and dry!

I have my alpha sv one year now and the more I wear it the more I love it

East coast tested! Approved for brutal winter conditions. Excellent alpine/telemark shell for the winter.

Haven't used it yet but it looks good out of the box! Arms are a bit long but otherwise it is a good fit overall. Small would work if I wanted a slimmer fit but I got it to wear over some bulky underlayers in cold conditions so the medium is a good size. 5'4", 130 lbs.

This is the perfect shell for skiing. There is movement, good fit, excellent color and great waterproofing! Can't say enough about it!

I bought this early fall for our very cold winters (-30 to -40) I seriously had my doubts but a t-shirt, arcteryx mid layer was all I needed to brave our harsh winters. all warm and fuzzy for any activity

J’ai changé ma coquille pour ce modèle. Léger , très imperméable. Très satisfaite de mon achat. Un seul point je metterais des poches de plus sur les côtés. J’ai aussi utilisé pour le ski avec une doudounes sous la cocquille et la grandeur était parfaite

J’ai acheté le alpha sv pour son goretex très épais et sa coupe. Tout est bien pensé : des poches externes aux poches internes, la longeur avant/arrière, les zips d’aération et le capuchon qui peu aussi bien s’ajuster sur un casque que sans. Avec des bonnes couches, vous n’aurez jamais froid. Je le décris souvent comme une petite armure. Le seul point négatif serait les manches que je trouvent un peu trop longue à mon goût.

I bought this jacket when winter started (in the rockies) I have used it everyday since then, skiing in the resort ski touring or for my work commute.

I love this coat and have worked hard to beat it up and it still looks brand new. I wash it regularly and take care of it but I do beat it up and Snowboard while wearing it with a backpack. Love the coat.

I bought this shell to replace my Beta LT (also great) that had been destroyed in a house fire. I love the long back as I'm a tall person. The SV was perfect for rough and tough field work in the remote outdoors. Unfortunately, it was so nice it was stolen. I've purchased a Beta AR now as my second replacement and will see how that compares, but so far I love the products from Arcteryx. I'm a size small in the base layers and Atom but I get size medium in the Cerium SV and my shells for the extra back length and space for layering. I have long arms but find the small a good arm length. Bust: 32" Shoulders: 16" Waist: 26" Hips: 34" Height: 5'8" Weight: 120lbs

I bought this coat a year and a half ago for winter adventures including hiking, snowshoeing, mountaineering and skiing. This coat is tough and extremely durable. I have skied at least 20+times in this jacket in various weather. I was one of few out in a snowstorm still able to ski because I wasn’t cold and was actually a little on the warm side in this jacket. While skiing I layer with a base layer, atom lt, and this coat and I found it can handle the winter.
