Alpha SV Jakke Herre

This is the third Alpha SV I’ve purchased, the first being in 2002. For me it has always been about the fit and this jacket simply works for my build. I love how the improvements from generation to generation are subtle but constant. Things like narrower seam tape to how the jacket stays under a pack or harness all go to the jacket constantly getting better. Thanks again!

I spent a lot of time carefully selecting my choice of new goretex ahead of my winter mountain leader assessment this season and spending the dizzying cost of £680 on a single item reflected how critical the shell is to my comfort and survival in the outdoors in a normal Scottish winter. Sorry for being brutal, I feel the Arcteryx design team have lived in coffee shops and warm offices a little too long venturing into the hills on those bright sunny days the rest of us get once or twice a year! The rest of us go out in the grim days of rain, blizzards and clang and require out products to perform to support our efforts. So why am I left feeling underwhelmed… The fit and style is good however the jacket is regrettably left lacking as a flagship product due to the lack of pockets. We all know you can never have enough pockets where we stash food, gloves, hats, maps, guides, compass, satnav and everything else we carry for easy access on exped. The only other option is we carry this in our rucksack so constantly stopping. Perhaps this the intention for those using the jacket in a walk in the rain through the city to the office with a bag and briefcase. Full marks for the sleeve pocket and two chest pockets however the jacket misses two others pockets on the chest in my opinion. The fit and hood are great however I would like to be honest that these are basics to a design and at this price I would expect a finished product. Inner pockets are acceptable if a little on the small side and disappointed there is no snow skirt as this preserves heat, aids ventilation and stops the poor weather pushing up the jacket at the front (back protected by rucksack). Finally the finishing… I feel Arc’ have missed this step! zip pulls are poor and not attached to the slider but the pull so need replacing and existing difficult to operate with gloved hands. No D rings to attach critical kit to prevent loss and this could have been something as simple as a loop of ribbon or ribbon with small D ring. I would be happy to discuss the lack of core features to a claimed flagship product with the design team while I’m considering returning the jacket and sorry for writing such disappointing feedback. For a few extra pennies (dimes) spent by Arcteryx this “could” have been a fantastic jacket. PS as outdoor professionals get such a reduction it’s easy to understand why the company isn’t receiving the brutal feedback the organisation requires unless the desire is as a cafe waterproof and walks in the park on a wet day.

This Alpha SV jacket fit a little larger than your normal size give you some room for layering underneath. If you want to wear just this jacket with t-shirt or hoodie still recommend to go TTS. I’m 5’11 / 183 lbs, with 42” chest and 19” shoulder. Hope this help whoever try to find their right size in this alpha sv jacket online. Really good. The jacket is perfect. Good size and good quality.

this product is good to wear, It can effectively shelter from wind and rain, and also has strong wear resistance. The only disadvantage is that it is easy to get dirty and not easy to take care of

We swam to Jan Mayen enwrapped in the Alpha SV sealed at all openings (neck waist wrists) kept a warm exchange between water inside on body. Akin to a wet/dry suit. Hybrid. Withstood attack from fish and sharp rock.

Very nice and well built. This is worth the price. Has many pockets and can handle cyclone winds and rain

I bought my 1.5 years ago and same problem delamination this not the first one! 2 more over 4 years beta model but same problems.

I bought this jacket 2019. I use recreationally. Hikes, walking the dog, occasional run. It's the best rain jacket I've ever owned. Amazing fit, comfortable, keeps me insanely dry. The main zipper failed last year, and they replaced this no question. Still disappointed that the zipper failed on a $1000 jacket after 2 yrs light use. I sent the jacket in again earlier this summer. Goretex had delaminated and one of the seams had come apart. They said it was due to contamination and refused to fix. Super disappointed. It's an amazing jacket, but the quality is lacking if you're looking for a bomb-proof shell to last you a lifetime. Not worth $1000 IMO.

This jacket is incredible. Has kept me safe in some ridiculous -25C wind and snow storms. Has been a multipurpose warrior for my work, touring in the mountains, and snowboarding. Besides the thoughtful design, the look is very fresh. Always get comments on it when I wear it out.

I've had this jacket for a couple of seasons. It's by far the best ski jacket I have used. The waterproofing and fit is amazing.

I bought it last year and wear it a lot during the winter, It is very confortable and keep me warm and dry during my activities. Can wait to wear it again this winter!

Bought my first Alpha SV in 2004 or '05, and it saved my life the following year. Now my whole family owns Arc'teryx equipment. Got my second jacket in 2020 and have absolutely no regrets. This is close to the definition, I'd say, of "buy once, cry once."

I have had this jacket for about 5 years now. I use it for hiking, fishing, hunting, MTB and also everyday use. It's so lightweight, but still rugged and durable. It almost had no signs of wear. In the beginning I was so ancious to wear it on long hiking trips and in a bit harsh conditions, due to the prize of the jacket and because it was so lightweight. No it feels almost like wearing an armor against the weather, the cold and the elements!

Fantastic ski jacket. I’m a huge proponent of layering and this jacket fits the bill. It’s both wind and waterproof. You can layer it up and down. Puffy and vest in the harshest conditions. Merino wool top in the spring. Extra length and powder skirt serve both the backcountry and the chairlift

C’est une des dernières pièces de la marque complétement fabriquée dans leur locaux de Vancouver. Et le moins que l’on puisse dire est que ça respire la qualité et la robustesse. Ce modèle a été pensé pour l’alpinisme et ski de rando en conditions sévères… le Gore Tex 100D utilisé est des plus agréable à porter, il est plus souple et fin qu’un gore tex pro 80D et pourtant plus résistant. La coupe est plutôt bonne car taillée alpinisme donc plus courte que les vestes de ski taillées freeride, la marque taille toujours très large et le model S (1m80 pour 75kg) me permet tranquillement d’accumuler les couches si besoin. Et je ne me retrouve pas avec un veste trop ample pour les grandes voies ou alpinisme en été. L’articulation des bras est super bien pensée et le réglage de la capuche est juste exceptionnel! Néanmoins, le filet intérieur ne permet de faire tenir les peaux et on aura pas de jupe par neige (on peut tout de même resserrer le bas de la veste bien évidement). Avec un Gore Tex pro 100D on est loin d’avoir une respirabilité et ‘packabilié’ incroyable mais je ne porte que très rarement ma gore tex en montée. Je la mets principalement pour la descente ou quand les conditions sont venteuse ou vraiment pourris (les zips sous les bras aidant grandement à la ventilation si besoin). Au final, peu importe les conditions, on sera dans notre cocon! Son prix neuf est clairement hallucinant mais je pense qu’elle en vaut la peine si on passe notre temps en montagne et recherche un pièce solide sur le long terme (pisteur, guide, utilisation alpi/ski à l’année).

I own two of these jackets and they still stand out from the field in several ways. First, the construction is top notch. The amount of detail and complexity of the seams and patterns is what you pay for in this jacket. Second, the jacket is produced in Canada (at least the versions I have). Knowing that the jacket is produced in a similar climate (PNW) to ours gives us the confidence it will perform well in conditions we experience.

I have worn this shell, in several model incarnations, for years. This is my go-to shell for the extreme conditions that we often see in Colorado’s mountains in the winter. When the wind is howling, temperatures drop and visibility flips to whiteout, this shell is a key element of the barrier layer that allows me to keep enjoying my day when Mother Nature is in a savage mood.

I've owned the Alpha SV for 3 years. On the mountains, I use it primarily for skiing and mountaineering. I've also found it incredibly valuable as a soccer coach in the Pacific Northwest. I love the simple versatility of the design. The pockets are perfect for holding ski passes, maps, and phone, easily accessible even with gloves. I've taken this jacket into white out blizzard conditions with wind whipping past me at 11,000 feet and didn't feel a thing. The water and weather proofing is incredible. The hood goes over helmets easily, and the zippers respond when temperatures change and I need to open up the pit zips off the chairs. On a whim I wore it coaching on the sidelines in a downpour - tired of my "coaching" jackets not keeping me dry - and I'll never go back when the weather turns. Best jacket I've ever owned bar none.

I bought this jacket for tackling Longs Peak. I felt secure from the elements and could concentrate on my movements. Came back and after a quick wash, it looks just like new! Definitely my go to for anything above 12,000 ft.

I bought this jacket late 2021 in the other orange color way and its performance is second to none. Going from my car to the local grocery store during a light sprinkle makes the arduous journey a fun expedition. Combined with the DWR and gore-tex no longer will I be in discomfort due to rain getting within my clothes. The alpha SV has definitely changed my life for the better and I recommend it to anyone who’s trying to better theirs

Bought top of the line Goretex Pro shell jacket from Arcteryx. Super nice design and attention to detail. Unfortunately, it started delamination from the very first wash following washing instructions. And delamination appeared not just in the glued connection (can be partly justified at least) but rather in random spots too. It is not the first jacket from Arcteryx that this is happening unfortunately so it looks that it is common problem with Goretex fabric. BUT after service request my jacket is replaced with new although I had to pay for transportation and wait approximately 2,5 months. So some credit there for Arcteryx! I don’t know what is wrong in the process or if any glue used is inferior to what was used in the past but I hope they really pay attention to that and rectify the problem since they will soon have some bad reputation and it is a pity since the design and brand is top of the line. I don’t recommend this product until there is solution to the problem. Again some credit for customer support for free replacement!!!!

I have been using this jacket for the last 6 years in extreme outdoor activities. From climbing the mountains of Lofoten to exploring the wild nature in Iceland. The jacket kept me protected from the extreme rain, snow and Ice. After all this use it is still going strong. Great Product.

A High quality jacket! I am going to keep it and am looking forward to using it on an upcoming mountaineering trip... But the pull cords for the hood on the front aren't locking when pulled. The cord is pulled to tighten up the hood around your head or helmet but when you let go it just loosens up. I am going to try to add a cord lock to it.

On the 7th of July 2022, I went to Iceland for an expedition we planned to explore some of the land's glaciers. First day, we walked up to 500 meters, everything went fine when we reached our camp. The next day, we climbed the next 1100 meters. During our trek, we experienced a huge sudden storm of rain and wind. We were about to cross glacier rivers, but the wind was so strong. It was blowing over people and things at a weight of 80 kg. There were other people who experienced hypothermia. 20 people got airlifted out from the area. It was an emergency status. I was wearing the Beta AR Pant and the Alpha SV Jacket. When we got back to the camp safely, I ended up being the only person in our group completely dry. Everyone was soaking wet. If it weren't for my Arc'teryx gear, I would of been wet and cold, and who knows -- possibly getting hypothermia too. This jacket was so expensive, but the quality is there. It is worth every penny when you are in a severe weather scenario, and it literally saved my life. To this day, I thank God and my Alpha SV for keeping me dry and safe there in the Icelandic mountains during that abrupt storm.
