Question 1

How can I wash it? The tag on the cap and the Q&A here says "surface cleaning only" but the Arcteryx prooduct page says "Machine wash low." Arcteryx, how can you ship a trail running hat that cannot be washed???

River, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello Anne, thank you for your question, and good catch! We made an error in the Product Description Page, and our team is already working on correcting it. The Gamma 5 Panel Cap is surface‑clean only, as indicated on the product tag. Because of its lightweight construction and bonded brim, machine washing can cause the materials to warp or lose their shape, which is why we recommend gentle spot cleaning instead. Thanks again for flagging this; we appreciate you helping us keep our information accurate.

Question 2

What are the measurements of the S/M and the L/LX? I'm exactly between sizes and want to compare it to other caps I have

Helio · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thank you for your question. Here are the key measurements for the Gamma 5 Panel Hat in each size:

S/M:
Hat Across Depth: 31.5cm
Hat Top Length (center front to center back - excluding the back opening): 28cm
Hat Bottom Length: 57cm

L/XL:
Hat Across Depth: 33.1cm
Hat Top Length (center front to center back - excluding the back opening): 29.6cm
Hat Bottom Length: 60cm

We hope this helps!

Question 3

is totally packable? can you bend the brim and then it gets baxk in perfect shape?

Seymour, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thanks for reaching out. The Gamma 5 Panel Cap is made with a lightweight fabric and can be packed flat. That said, we do not recommend bending or folding the brim. We hope this helps!

Question 4

I'm a huge fan of the now discontinued Arc'teryx Calvus Cap. How does this Gamma 5 Panel cap compare? The large/extra large in the Calvus fits me very well. Anyone have both and can give a comparison?

Helio, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thank you for your question! Great to hear you were a fan of the Calvus Cap. Here are the dimensions for the Gamma 5 Panel Cap in size L/XL compared to the Calvus Cap in size L/XL:

Gamma 5 Panel Cap:
Hat Circumference (at the bottom edge): 60cm
Visor Length: 6.5cm
Visor Width: 18.3cm

Calvus Cap:
Hat Circumference (at the bottom edge): 61cm
Visor Length: 7.3cm
Visor Width: 18.2cm

Both hats are designed as versatile spring/summer hats for mountain activities, but there are a few differences. The Calvus Cap uses lightweight polyester fabric (Polydel Mesh and Socora™, both 100% polyester), giving it a very breathable and structured feel that's great for high-output activities where airflow is essential. On the other hand, the Gamma 5 Panel Cap uses a stretchy softshell fabric (Aequora AirPerm™ — 86% nylon, 14% elastane), which is still air-permeable but offers a smoother softshell hand feel and slightly more durability for mixed mountain conditions. We hope this helps!

Question 5

Are these caps unisex

Helio · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thank you for your question. The Gamma 5 Panel Cap is not designed for a specific gender and can be worn by anyone. We hope this helps!

Question 6

Hi there, does this hat fit well beneath a climbing helmet? Thanks!

Seymour, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thanks for reaching out. The Gamma 5 Panel Cap is lightweight and low profile, so it can be comfortably worn under a climbing helmet. We hope this helps!

Question 7

what is the brim made of? plastic insert, I hope, so that it is not ruined in a downpour?

River · Accepted Answer

Hello there, the brim of the Gamma 5 Panel Cap is made from 2mm EVA foam, which offers lightweight structure and flexibility without the need for a plastic insert. This material holds its shape well and is water-resistant, making it a great choice for wet conditions.

Question 8

Question 9

Can this successfully be worn with the brim flipped up?

River · Accepted Answer

Hello there, the Gamma 5 Panel Cap can be worn with the brim flipped up, though it may not sit as naturally or hold its shape as well as a cap specifically designed for that look. The brim is lightly structured, so while it’s flexible enough to flip up, it might not stay in place securely for extended periods or during active movement.

Question 10

What's its UPF?

River · Accepted Answer

Hello there, the Gamma 5 Panel Cap is not UPF rated, so we can’t guarantee a specific level of sun protection.
