Cerium Pant Men's

These pants are pretty nice and provide a decent amount of warmth for the weight. They are similar to the cerium jacket, but in pants version as expected. They are able to keep my legs relatively warm for at least short periods in -20c. I do not have experience with them in windy or wet conditions, so take that with a grain of salt. I intend on carrying these for summer backpacking, ski mountaineering trips, hut trips etc. In comparison to the proton pants, they are a bit warmer and less breathable. If you plan to exercise with insulation pants, the proton is a better option. The cerium pants only weigh about 10 grams less than the proton (both in XL), and they pack down to about the same. The proton pants are also a lot more durable on the outer material. The sizing is my main gripe. It's a bit tighter in the waist than normal L pants for me, and the length is a touch shorter. I would almost suggest to size up. I also wouldn't argue with another pocket, but the one on these is just fine for me.

I bought these for warmth for winter city biking. They are very warm. However I do not counsel to use these as stand alone. YOU NEED TO use a shell… I used these once for ski (one of the activities that is a suggested on Arc’teryx’s website) and they ripped after a single fall on snow condition. The outer shell material is extremely extremely fragile. To a point that it is frustrating for a 400$ pants. I contacted Arc’teryx for an explanation on the fragility of the tissue but was refused a warranty service.

For this review i am talking from a practical outdoor perspective. They are pretty self explanatory. Just cerium pants. They feel like they have less down than the jacket. The leg zippers are not locking. So they unzip very easily. Its an insignificant, but frustrating decision. I don’t see how locking zips would add so much weight or bulk. These pants also don’t have normal pockets. Just a lower side zip pocket that holds the stuff sac. Its big enough for a large phone, but its uncomfortable and inconvenient so i don’t use it. For the waist it is a very similar shock cord and ultra light S clip thing to the jacket. I originally ordered a small size because i have a 30 waist. It technically fits, but was very constricted and uncomfortable so i sized up to a medium. The product description says “for emergency use” i don’t know what emergency you would use these in. Maybe your stove is taking too long to heat up your hot chocolate? If someone is going hypothermic, im going to put them in a burrito. Not shove them in my puffy pants. (I will selfishly want my puffy pants on while my hot chocolate is boiling) Alright, so should you buy these? Eh idk. If you know these will make your life better. Sure. If you own the cerium jacket and ever said “i want this, but on my legs” then you will enjoy this product. Is it worth the price? Everything Arc makes is not worth the price, but somehow also is worth the price. Make of that what you will. The butt of the pants is also synthetic which is a good call. The cerium pants with the cerium jacket with shell pants and jacket is pretty good. You will be very warm. If you are one of those crazy guides who wants puffy pants for an ultra light sleep system (if you know you know) then these could work nicely. But you are probably also the guide that will only buy knockoffs. Classic. These are down pants, and they work well as down pants. I pretty much wear these all day everyday around the house. I pack them on mostly every day hike. And they are essential on overnights. For me they are very much worth it and i could not live without them. I would recommend. As i am the first reviewer (and probably the first crazy enough to buy these) i hope my words help you.
