Macai Jacket Men's

I purchased this jacket at near full price because of the brand's alleged bulletproof quality, reliability, and warranty. After two seasons of light use it turns out none of the aforementioned qualities are true. I bought this jacket to keep me warm while I walk the dogs in Edmonton's sometimes -30C winter weather. Every time it got really cold, and with a heavy merino (260 weight) underlayer, plus another wool sweater on top, I'd get chills when I went outside. Cold coming in from the main zipper, and from the bottom of the coat. Before an Arcteryx customer service rep replies with the "warmth is subjective" platitude, I'll tell you this- I have products from competitor brands (not allowed to say brand names!) that cost a lot less and are of better quality and much warmer. Just recently the main zipper failed on my jacket. Upon closer inspection I also found that the insides of the cuffs have frayed. I always wear gloves whose long cuff extends over the outside of the jacket cuff, which means that the material frayed from contact with my skin alone. The main zipper failing so soon is actually quite deplorable, given the price of this coat. After contacting customer service (RA785689) they assured me that both of these defects were quite normal for their products and nothing out of the ordinary. I did receive a self repair zipper and some duck tape to patch the fraying. The replacement zipper is tiny and lacks the pull, not to mention I had to butcher the top of the zipper in order to make the repair. Suffice to say that I am thoroughly unsatisfied with the quality of this product and the level of customer service I received with the warranty department. If you can pick this jacket up off a clearance rack for 50% off then go for it. I believe it is no better, and given the cheap zipper and fraying I've experienced, I'd say it is of poorer quality than many cheaper competitor brands that cost half as much.
