I'm the type of trail runner that doesn't like to have any gear on me. I don't even like wearing a shirt because it makes me feel too constricted. My runs have been getting longer and hotter though, so I needed a solution for hydration and a vest seemed to be the answer. I was a little unsure about what the right vest would be, but I knew it had to be lightweight while also being functional. The Norvan 7 is the smaller of the two vests that Arc offers, so I decided to go with that. I am 5' 7" and 135lbs, so I went with a size small. I slipped this thing on and it felt like I wasn't even wearing anything. It's super light weight and cut in a way where it really hugs the body. There's no rattle or sagging, even with the two bottles filled. The side mesh pockets are nice and tight, so they hold everything securely. I had my ring of 7 keys, my phone, card holder, and 3 GU gels in the pockets and could barely feel them. They didn't bounce around on the downhill and I never felt like anything was going to fall out. There are even zipper pockets within the mesh side pockets for items that you really don't want to lose. The large back pocket is accessible by just reaching behind you, so you could easily throw something in there while running if you needed to. Another big thing I noticed on this vest is that the chest straps stay tight. I was worried that they would loosen during the duration of my runs, but they stay secure and don't slip. Really stoked on that. I'd hate to have to mess around with tightening the straps over and over while trying to hit a PR. Excited to take this vest on a bunch of adventures.

Never want to run without it again!

I have tested a lot of vests for running and trailrunning, and this is by far the BEST! It fits so snug and nicely, nothing jumps or bounces around. The pockets are exactly where they should be and every item is easily accessible. I’m taking this out on pretty much every single run.

I had a feeling you'd solve stuff

attention to design details. specifically, the loops that hold the flasks in place have a simple rubber tab that is easy to locate, and affix over the flask top. makes for an easy out/in when filling with hydration. the inner right utility pocket, has a tab which enables me to find the pocket just by "feel" - in other words, when running at night, don't have to stop or guess at where this pocket is. the zipper pocket on the other side also has a mini rope that is long enough to have it protrude outside the pocket so once again, easy to find by "feel". perfect guys/gals. two utility pockets up front are big enough and stretchy enough to put stuff in and find that you really were generous with the space there. this to me is awesome because some of the nutrition i carry is bulky and can really fit there and accessible on the run. the two mini pockets on top are far enough away from the flasks for easy to reach, does not interfere with the flasks, you really put some thought into this. in fact, one of the mini pockets has a little rope that one can hook keys or whatever there, nice touch. the wrap around pocket mesh, is again big enough to carry like rain jacket or other type of light weight jacket. so basically, i can literally access all pockets because you have either added a simple tab or little rope for guidance. i really like the simple design of the cords you have for tightening or loosening up the pack. i find the simplicity of using this is spot on! nice job. i errored on the side of giving you a 5, but would have marked this as a 4.8 stars. room for improvement include: adding a tab for the wrap around mesh pocket, find it hard to locate. adding a small hole from the wrap around mesh pocket to the front mesh pocket, to allow for a charger to be stashed in the wrap around pocket, while stretching a charging cable to the front pocket for charging of phone/headphones. adding the ability to add either a 1000ml or 750 ml reservoir to the back. maybe the reservoir would be a horizontal design. anyhow, here in Texas, 1000ml is not enough water for training runs, so would be nice to augment. had been using different hydration vests, and was not really happy with the one i recently bought. i use your gear mainly for ultra's and have experienced that you all really do take the technical aspects of the sport and apply your designs. so i had a feeling you would solve for the little details. and sure enough, you solved it. again, am totally sold on your hydration pack and look forward in taking this out for a 100m run in Brazos Bend 100m on 2 Dec.

Great lightweight system

High quality- very lightweight, the hydration system is well thought out and designed, and it stays in place while running quite nicely. The pocket on the back is small, but can fit a light pullover, hat, and gloves while running, so it's plenty sufficient. I've used it for 40 milers (supported) and ~20 mile unsupported, and it could hold a bit more food. If you are carrying a lot of heavier layers, you may want a larger pack, but for general lightweight running with just a pullover or simlar to shed, it's ideal.

Great vest- factor in weight loss with size

This is a great running vest! very breathable and supper lightweight that sometimes I forget that it is there. I would consider sizing before buying. I was in-between sizes when I bought mine and I did not factor in weight loss when making my size selection. I purchased a large vest; the fit was good at the time of purchase, I lost 12lbs and now the fit is to loose and I feel the vest bouncing up and down when running. I now wish I purchased the size down.

@ another_aussie_in_van I find that it is loose around the lower chest and the lower back, I did not have this issue when I first bought it but then I dropped 20lbs. I need to run with the front draw straps on its tightest setting (I wish I could make it tighter)otherwise I feel the vest bounce up and down a lot.

Great Running Vest!

Best running vest I've used. I really like this vest. It holds everything I need for a day in the White Mountains in New Hampshire and everything fits comfortably with no bounce or chafing. Need to use a little care when stashing poles using the loops to make sure they in a position where poles don't rub and scratch my inner arm area. Otherwise, no complaints and it holds more stuff that I really imagined I could fit in a vest this size. After the first season of use, I haven't noticed any issues with wearing out, or failing seams.

Lightweight and comfortable!

I’ve been using mine for almost 3 months, and it’s everything I wanted out of a running vest. It’s lightweight, comfortable, the fit is snug around the mid-back and can go as tight as you’d like across the chest. If you are in between sizes like me, I’d recommend sizing down - it will help to decrease movement/bouncing when the vest is full of water, gels, etc.

Great vest that needs small adjustment

It quickly came as my favourite vest, it can fit more than it looks, amazing colour too & you don't feel it being there. Only feedback would be; the chest straps aren’t as easy as other vests on market & may be more zippers? things doesn’t fall if wearing it but there is risk you can drop something when you take it off your body, so may be more zippers for mobile & wallet to make sure those are always secured.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Got this at the beginning of summer and has been an excellent choice. The fit is just perfect, stays in place and is easy to adjust as you drink and the volume of the flasks goes down. The pockets are all easily accessible while on the go and the breathability and quick dry is excellent. Zippered pocket is a really nice touch.

Great for trail running and long runs

I bought this vest a few weeks ago for use when running. I train in Texas and needed a capacity upgrade for long runs (10+ miles), especially with the heat. I plan on using it for trail running and day trips for 14ers in the mountains next summer. The vest is a perfect size to be light and hold a lot of water without being bulky like a full backpack/camelback. It has enough room that I feel comfortable I can stash a shell for trail running/hiking. It has plenty of attachments as well that stow away, I always feel like I’m discovering new ones. Super great versatility.

Just what I expected

I'm more of a fast hiker than a trail runner, but feel a backpack is often too much for day hikes, and most of all, too hot. The Norvan 7 is light and breathable, and I'm still able to pack extra layers, a snack and other potential necessities. Being able to attach foldable poles to the vest is great when I need my hands free, and I suppose I'm a bit of a newb, but was pleasantly surprised at how well the water bottles work. The vest runs a bit expensive, but after checking out a million others, I think the price is worth it, and know I'm going to get t least 1000 km out of it. Plus, it kinda makes me feel like Tyler the Creator in his hi-vis vest (I got yellow), and my former high school self would definitely wear it to class. My one concern is that it's not machine washable. I wonder if it can be put through a gentle cycle in another bag to avoid the strings getting caught up in the machine.

Perfect Running Vest

Lightweight and Comfortable

Bought this and did multiple short (less than 10km) and long (more than 20km) runs. Love the fit and features (flexible mesh helps to keep the items from "floating" in your back when you run, small zip pocket is a must for valuables such as keys and credit card). The bottles are standard and work well to drink while running.

My favorite so far.

I got this for hiking our local ski resort trails in the White Mountains of AZ (peak 10,700’). So far I’ve enjoyed using my Aerios 10 pack and BD Shot 11 pack this summer. As far as breathability, light weight, and easy access to hydration and gels or bars, I much prefer this Norvan 7 over both of those packs. 5 stars from my point of view but please Arc’teryx, offer the included flasks with your logo on them separately too so I can buy more (not the $60 Della).

Amazing bag, some concerns

So I’ve only used this pack / vest for TWO ventures. With under or around 20 miles on this bag it is already forming a hole between two of the loops where the straps hooks onto. I do not have this problem on my aerios 15 which is almost an identical system. Sure this is a problem I would expect with time and it’s still usable, but TWO uses?! I would hate for it to break fully in a bad situation. With how the some warranty issues have been lately I’m honestly anxious to send it back and be without a vest, only for my claim to be denied. Pack was not even loaded with gear, just had a shell, poles and snacks + the flasks. This sucks because it was absolutely perfect for my needs (scrambling, trail running, fast packing) and had awesome and innovative design and functions; though I’m not sure how much I’ll be able to trust it in the future, which I would expect from such a product. (Note: sizing is accurate if not layering. If you plan to use for cold season with a layer or two I would consider sizing up.

Great fitting with all core functions needed!

So far, I'd only a couple casual trail runs (15-25k), however, I love the fit and the simple chest cord adjustments. Fabrics are stretchy and front pockets for food and other small gear are easily accessible. I use the Salomon/Hydrapak soft flask with integrated water filter. So probably suitable for ultra distances w/ access to water.

The Norvan 7

The vest is incredibly lightweight and it moves with me to the point that I could almost forget that I'm even wearing it. The zippered pocket is a feature I'm thankful for when my ear buds die (or to store my credit card and key if I'm going far). The bottle height rests perfectly and the extra mesh pockets to the side are prefect for gels - neither of which would ever get in the way of arm swings. If I could make one suggestion it would be to redesign the water flasks to an hourglass shape, and then have a silicone loop that keeps the bottle a little more secure when the flasks become only half or one quarter full. Regardless, I'm happy with this running vest and would still recommend it.

Comfy, stretchy, lightweight

I’ve not got much use out of this product yet but wanted to post an early review to help others who were considering it. What I like: It’s really comfortable, stretchy and well made. Up the front there are two flask pockets and the 500ml hydraflask bottles slide in really easily even when full. There are stretchy loops to prevent the bottles sinking into the pockets and stabilise when on the move. Also on the front are stash pockets on both sides, each will fit a large mobile phone and/or gels, snacks, bars…I can fit 6 energy bars plus other snacks or a hat and gloves etc no problem. On the left there’s a small zipped pocket for keys, valuables or other small items (this pocket isn’t big enough for most modern phones) on the right there’s a small pocket which is perfect for gels, I can fit 3 sis style gels easy and a fourth which is a bit of a squeeze. On the back there’s a top stash pocket, perfect for a wind layer or a waterproof, it’s easily accessible while worn and it’s very stretchy, you can fit a lot into this pocket, although it starts to look a bit odd when packed really full. Under this pouch is a very large and open mesh area, it runs from armpit to armpit. I was a bit confused at first as I was sure storing items in this space would mean they would fall out or move while running. If you pack the bag while it’s not on your back, the items will move around a touch but once it’s on your back the fabric tightens up and your items are staying put. I was really impressed with this but it’s taking time to get used to how I’ll use this space, size wise in this area I can fit a first aid kit, foil blanket/shelter bag, torch, gps, hat, gloves, map, spare jacket (I put a Gamma SL in) plus a few other small items….it’s very stretchy. What I’m not sure about: You can carry an ice axe….my axe would rip this fabric to bits so unless you have a cover for the sharp teeth on your ice tool I’m not sure this would be viable for me. I miss having a large zipped back compartment like on my Salomon Sense Pro 10…I think this would be a good option if they do a norvan 10 in the future…plus you could stash a hydration bladder in there, a feature which is missing from this vest, in fact carrying more than 1ltr of water is a bit of a challenge unless you stuff a bottle round the back. Overall is very well made, looks good as long as you don’t overpack it, it’s very comfortable and hardly moves while running. I do miss a large secure zipped pouch on the back but perhaps if they do a 10 litre version (fingers crossed) that might be a consideration. I’m pretty sure I could head out in the hills all day with this pack, especially if I over stuffed it….if using it for what it was probably designed for I.e 3 or 4 hours on the trail it would be an excellent choice in my opinion.

6ft, 98kg, 42-43 inch chest and there’s a bit of room to spare… if I had to guess it would probably comfortably fit a 110kg, 44 inch chest at the upper end, hope that helps.
