Beta AR - Perfect West Coast all-arounder

Had the jacket for 3 months, and so far I have mainly used for dog walks, out in Victoria BC we see a significant amount rainfall this jacket has held up superbly to all weather conditions, and has kept me bone-dry by the end of our walks (up to 2-3 hours at time), and have found the pit zips perfect for venting while we lightly jog. I plan on using this for the ski season, mainly coastal PNW mountains, the fit is perfect for layering to stay warm on and off the hill. A lot of comments have been focused on the drop-hood but I like the look and design of it personally.

You won't find anything quite like it on the market.

The Beta AR was my first Arcteryx purchase seven years ago, and I couldn't find any issues with the build quality, durability, or performance of the jacket. It can be used as a shell in any (any) weather, from mist to driving sleet. I recently purchased an updated version and the new release on the hood drawstrings and zipper pulls are nice. If you want a shell jacket that will last you for a decade pull the trigger, you won't regret it.

Fantastic all-round jacket for almost any use

The Beta AR is the best jacket I own for almost any activity. It'll stand up to any weather, including prolonged heavy rain. The hood has to be the best hood Arc'teryx make, as it's adjustable in so many ways, and always moves with my head. Pit zips allow venting if the temperature increases, and a hem drawcord is good for keeping the jacket close to your body. I genuinely can't find anything bad to say about this jacket.

Quality thats Built to Last

I've been really happy with my purchase. The jacket is perfect for the warm, wet outdoors and in winter with a fleece or other clothing underneath it will also excel even more. The performance is perfect and more importantly the build quality which is what broght me to the purchase. The only downside is that you need or want the same level of performance on the legs in the harsh environment. Given how long this will last and perform it's well worth the money. Built to last

A shell with a very long lifespan

I now have two of these - in Medium and Small. The medium was bought ~12 years ago; still looks and works as though brand new. Every couple years I've DWR'd it. I picked up the small earlier in the year because I wanted a less bulky fit (5'8", 160lbs). Comparing the two jackets - the formula hasn't had to change much over time - they were close to perfection before, and they've made a few refinements. Details around hood are the most obvious - slightly different cut that keeps drawstrings in check; the newer drawstring mechanisms work better - very solid to grab, and easier to adjust with bulky gloves. Same with zippers. The fabric and stitching still feel tough as nails. I had one "service request" on the older jacket: the waist drawstring sheath wore through after a decade of use. Although I can't speak for all "service requests" - Arc'teryx didn't charge for this repair, were quick to get the jacket back to me - and the jacket looked and worked as good as new on return. The sheath on the newer model (just like the old) is held in place with mix of stitching and glue - it's possible this'll be a wear point if you get a size that's too big and have to cinch it up a lot. I can confidently say the jacket'll last at least another decade, though. This is probably the last hard shell you'll ever need to buy...

My go anywhere, do anything, must have jacket

I have a jacket collection....yes, closets of jackets. If I had to keep only one, this is the one. It is really the perfect blend of weight and features - what you need, not more. You can add a light vest or down shirt underneath for greater warmth, leave on its own for summer rains. This is the jacket that goes everywhere with me on travels around the world, looks new after 7 or 8 years of regular use. I highly recommend.

Definitely showerproof. Also rainproof.

I've been through my share of "waterproof" rain jackets and have been disappointed more than once. This time, I wanted to test it out myself before I took this jacket into a harsh weather environment. I put on a white shirt, then this jacket, and sat in the shower for 45 minutes. Inspecting afterwards, there wasn't a drop of water on the shirt. In real weather, my experience has been similarly satisfying.

A must have in every Canadian wardrobe!

I bought this jacket for my husband last year. He absolutely lives it. In addition to being a great fit and loving the color, he wears it 3 seasons of the year. He wears it on its own in spring and fall and on warmer winter days and in addition to an insulated layer on colder days. It has been his go to jacket for hiking, snowshoeing and our kids mountain and cyclocross bike races. I'm going to invest in one for myself and my two kids this fall!

A step above the rest

I'd like to start off by saying that the build quality of this jacket is absolutely fantastic. You can tell when a company goes the extra mile to polish off little areas that others probably wouldn't. It's one of those items that even though you've invested a large amount of money in you know you don't have to worry about damaging it when out facing the elements. Therefore you end up with stellar protection coupled with the confidence required to take on tricky situations. Perfect. When wearing this jacket my range of movement never feels hindered however it never feels like there is any excess material getting in the way either. It is incredibly easy to pack down and weighs next to nothing. The waterproofing is absolutely excellent and so is the breathability. The ability to vent in the underarm area and adjust the hood to accept a helmet (whilst still being extremely effective without a helmet) makes this quite a versatile outer layer. On top of this it looks smart and wouldn't look out of place worn to the pub after a long day in the mountains. 10/10

Performance outweighs a questionable fit

Good jacket that kept me dry in Sweden and during Caucasus trip through the mountains. Sizing is very weird - size S (which I have) fits perfectly on the body, but the sleeves are too long, size XS doesn't fit body at all (and the sleeves are still long), size M is too large.
Q: Activity
A: Hiking
Prosdurable, breathable
Consweird sizing, noisy hood

Yes, I recommend this product.

They mean waterproof, and wind proof

The vast majority of jackets suppress the wind, this jacket actually blocks all wind, it was amazing on the peak of mountains to just a sideways blowing storm of snow and rain. I have long hair and so it is nice to have the extra large hood if I have my hair up in a bun. Not totally what it was designed for but and added benefit. Although the pockets have the water resistant/proof design the very tops seem to let in just the most minor moisture to the pockets. If they added a small flap to the top of it so the zipper could tuck into it and prevent any issues.
Q: Activity
A: Hiking and snowboarding
Prosabsolutely bombproof for the wind, extra large good is amazing
Consminor pocket leak

Yes, I recommend this product.
