Warm, soft and good fit

After reading through the reviews on this I was concerned about pilling however there doesn't seem to be happening on mine so far! I wear a backpack most days and no pilling on the shoulders yet where it rubs.
The jacket is warm, soft and fits really well. It looks pretty smart so I'll be using both casually and at work in!
The only tiny niggle I have is that the cuffs could be a little tighter. Although they do still work well and spring back to shape even after wearing it with the sleeves pulled up all day.
Possibly one of my favourite pieces and fits well under my Atom LT, Zeta AR and Interstate Jackets.

Glad yours did not pill but I wanted to stress that this is not the case across the board. 1 month into wearing mine as a stand alone sweater in the office it began pilling across nearly every inch. Regardless of rub or friction areas. I could’ve got a lemon but in that case Arcteryx will not help as it is “normal wear and tear”

I love everything about this jacket except it’s really cumbersome to put on when with any number of baselayer materials! It’s the nature of the fleece but it causes you to have to hold the cuff of your shirt sleeve and fight to pull the jacket on. That’s the only thing stopping it being 5 star!

Bought this about 2 months ago as a lightweight option in and out of the office and on my adventures as a soft layer. In that role, it's good. My only issue so far is the pulling that has occurred around the zipper. I'm not wearing it under any layers very often, but it started fairly quickly. So be aware you might need to take action once a season.

Functional with thoughtful design--a bit loose

The covert is cozy, and I pretty much wear it all day at home. I really appreciate the inner mesh front that allows for venting/temperature control, especially with the hand pockets open. For my body type, it fits a little loose. This is considered a "regular" fit under Arcteryx, and I'd definitely say it's not form-fitting. The cuffs aren't as tight as I'd like and often cover parts of my hands, unlike my other Arcteryx jackets in the same size. If you're planning to layer under this and you have small/slim build, then it will likely be fine.
I'm 5'4"; 122 lbs; got a size small. Probably should've gotten an XS, but that wasn't in stock at the time.

I love everything except for the pilling

Bought this in Nov 2019 and would have returned it in early 2020 due to the constant pilling, except for Covid and the resultant lockdown. Functionally is nice and warm. However, the pilling is really bad and it looks tatty. Can't really wear it on video calls now with clients as the pilling shows! What high tech problems we have in Covid times.

Was shocked. Thought I was seeing things. The fabric felt great, then first day noticed pilling on the underside of forearms from resting on a bar. The jacket is now so pilled I only wear it under a shell as warmth.

I had the exact same issue, put in a service request and was told it’s normal so it’s not an issue. Such a joke, I work for a large outdoors retailer as a manager and bought this to wear as it was professional looking. Can’t even wear it at work now without looks. What a shame

I bought this jacket back in September, worn indoors during lockdown. It fits well, very comfortable and warm. Now the bad bit. It pills. A lot. I've not been wearing it with a pack (or even outdoors!), and it has pulled badly in some areas. For the price, this shouldn't happen. I agree with other reviewers that this should be withdrawn from sales until the material issue is sorted. Very disappointed.

Fabric does not wear well!

I was waiting for months for the whiskey jack colour to come back into stock, as I have owned this sweater in the past in other colours with amazing wear. Unfortunately, the fabric has changed and there was major pilling all over the front of the sweater with casual wear, all in less than a week. After contacting Arc'teryx support I was advised that pilling is normal during the lifespan of the material. I am extremely disappointed not only with the quality of this fabric, but also with the response I received. Save your money and purchase a cheaper brand... you will probably get a better fabric and customer aftercare.

Loved Arcyteryx because of the longer sleeves. Owned a Covert Hoody before buying this Covert Cardigan and now there is an inch difference in sleeve length between the two. Has Arcteryx changed their sizing to make their sleeves shorter? This is a size L.

Not the quality you'd expect from Arcteryx

I bought this fleece a few months ago and did not read the reviews before I got it. I washed it inside out and everything seemed to be fine. It is nice enough for a Friday casual at the office, and warm enough for a hike during the fall and being around the campground. The true test came just last week that I had to carry a backpack for a few hours. Sure enough this thing pilled as mentioned in other reviews. It is very noticeable in areas where the backpack or straps were rubbing. The functionality of it has not changed, but now it looks like a cheap fleece you would get anywhere else. That is too bad because this is not the quality you would expect from the brand, I might have to trade it in for some credit at the store next November.

Love the fit and look but it started pilling within the first week that I got it. I had to invest in a de-pilling device which helps but the cardigan now requires regular maintenance for it to look nice. Not practical for regular wear, I would spend your money on something else.

I own three of these and they are durable, warm and fit great. Issue is the zipper gets stuck on the small flap at the chin, making it difficult to zip completely.

I have the same pilling issues as others. Paid a lot of money and take great care of it. My last one lasted 10+ years without pilling. This one started pilling almost immediately. Crazy, and very dissappointed. I have a lot of Arcteryx stuff but this will make me rethink the brand.

I have two covert cardigans. The form, fit, and function are perfect for me. I love the material, fit is snug (I am 6'2", 180, and lean), and it keeps me warm on cold days. Primarily wear as an extra layer in the home and for nights out. To me, too nice for trails. Despite the close fit, I go with the Large as the XL would be too long in the sleeves and body.

This cardigan was my ‘gateway drug’ into the brand, and I’ve bought multiple since getting hooked. More stylish than typical fleece jackets, and constructed with an impeccable eye for detail and finish, it is astoundingly warm with just a t-shirt beneath it.

Mixed impressions compared with other Arc garment

I have a Covert full zip which was from a prior season (2018) as well as one that was recently purchased. I am not able to always get Arcteryx gear and fit in person as many stores do not readily stock what I'm looking for. This was a purchase made online based on measurements and my size.
What is unusual about this cardigan is the tight fit of the sleeves and the tight underarm. If I wear the sweater with anything but a thin T shirt, the elbows are far too tight, and the underarms wick moisture occasionally. I'm 6'0", 190 lbs with a 34" arm, and the sleeves cover my knuckles. The body fits okay across the chest, so I would hate to go up a size and have even longer sleeves! Not sure who these sweaters are designed for.
On the positive side, the garment is extremely well made. I don't seem to experience the pilling described in posts here, though I'm also not machine washing the sweater.
Earlier Covert sweaters were wool blend (yes, very high quality), the new versions are woven synthetic facing with liner.
I do see the collar has been redesigned for 2020 to a more cuff-style instead of the older structured panel design. Personally, the new cut looks ordinary and doesn't present as a high end garment. I could compare with other brands, but was advised not to do so. Let's just say it's a disappointment, given the usually high standards from Arcteryx.
I appreciate the high quality of the garments, but a bit of attention to the fit and collar for 'normal' people might be something to consider.

Pilling issue. Not up to quality for this company.

Fit and feel are great, but this product should be recalled as the material started pilling within a few wears (inside only during lockdown and before i washed it) and has only gotten worse. Looks super shabby now. I’ve been told by Arc’teryx that this is to be expected if i wear it as an outer layer (!) which seems ridiculous.
Like many other recent reviews, my suspicion is cost cutting has lead to an inferior material. Buyer beware!

The Covert Cardigan does use Alpenex II™ Heathered, and due to the wool feel of the fabric, there is a possibility for pilling. In most cases though, a de-piller will work wonders on restoring the Covert line.

Pills quickly and a lot!

A $200 cardigan should not pill so quickly and so much! After buying it, I wore it as a mid layer under an outer jacket made of very smooth fabric, so I don't understand why it pilled so much and so quickly. I regret not returning this item when I had the chance. These should be sold with sweater shavers to remove the pilling.

I love the Covert and have had 3 - the first one I had was still made in Canada and made of Polartec fleece. I was looking at purchasing another one but after reading the comments on the quality of the latest version's fabric, I am holding off. At this price point there should be no pilling. My original Covert from 2004 lasted 15 years before it slowly fell apart and I wore it non-stop. Also add the neck loop to hang it back - it's a pain without.
