Question 1

Hello, I have an Arc'teryx AR-395a harness. Can it be used for via ferrata with an EN 958 energy-absorbing lanyard? If yes, where should the lanyard be attached: girth-hitched to the belay loop or through both tie-in points? I’m asking because the AR-395a

River, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello there, thank you for reaching out with your question about using the AR‑395a harness for via ferrata. The AR‑395a is a climbing harness built to UIAA/EN standards for roped climbing, and it is compatible with EN 958‑certified energy‑absorbing via ferrata lanyards. For attachment, the correct method is to clip or girth‑hitch the via ferrata lanyard to the belay loop, which is the load‑bearing connection point designed to handle multi‑directional forces. Via ferrata lanyards should not be attached through both tie‑in points, as that configuration is intended specifically for tying in with a rope and does not distribute load the same way during a via ferrata fall.

Are the gear loops rated?

Seymour, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thanks for reaching out. Our gear loops are not weight-rated because they’re not designed to support your weight or your partner’s while belaying. Instead, they’re intended for racking gear, keeping your essentials within reach. We hope this helps!

Charlie · Accepted Answer

Bonjour Annita.
