Bought this jacket a few years ago and it the best jacket I have ever owned. I wear it all year around. The fit is great, I wear it alone in the summer during rainy days and in the winter I layer it with a sweater or my atom. Over all it’s a wicked jacket and I use it for hiking to snowboarding and everything in between.

Extremely pleased with the Beta AR. Like all Arc'Teryx products, the quality is outstanding. There is nothing unnecessary on this jacket. It is perfect for what it was designed for. I also tried and returned the Alpha AR because I preferred the neck and hood and the pockets of the Beta. I am 5'9" 175# and the medium fits me close but with enough room to wear a pretty big puffy and two base layers under it and not lose any range of motion.

This is a Great jacket! Solid performance over a base layer and puffy on a cold hike, protection from sleet and rain and pit zips to cool you long ascents! Fabric resists brambles and bright color will be an asset in aerial search and rescue! Best all around multi-season outer layer!

Feels like it will last a lifetime, mine already went through a lot and isn’t showing a single sign of wear. I’m 175cm 62kg and wear a size L, enough space for a midlayer.

The gore-tex shell for this Beta AR is softer, less stiff, and provides just as much protection as my old Theta AR. The hood design is great and allows you to wear the jacket with the hood down while still maintaining a snug fit around the neckline. Zipper redesign seems a little cheaper, but so far they have performed well.

I got the Beta AR a few months ago, it is a great jacket and I find the range of adjustments perfect. I like that the arms are long as this avoids a wet cuff riding up your sleeve when you reach for something, nothing worse than that. I prefer this type of hood to the type integrated with the neck, especially for year-round use as it is easier to get out of the way when the sun comes out. My only gripe would be it is quite a noisy shell, but I'm not taking it hunting. Perhaps I have not broken it in enough yet. Highly recommend!

I bought this jacket last year for rainy days in the city, resort skiing and ski touring. It exceeded my expectations and has kept me dry. Would highly recommend.

Versatile and effective waterproof shell. I have used for a variety of activities (hiking, skiing, fishing) in all seasons and this is sufficiently adjustable to meet all needs and keep me dry

This is my second Beta AR jacket and I can/t see myself use any other jacket for all my outdoors needs. Quality all around. This jacket ROCKS!

Bought this about 1 year ago, and have used it from around town use, to hiking, and skiing as well. Has worked flawlessly, and I love the drophood construction as well. Definitely an excellent all-rounder. Definitely on the roomier side for plenty of layering, so make sure to account for that.

I bought the updated Beta AR last fall for backcountry skiing and ended up selling it this fall. The first time I wore it skiing I had to go between two pine trees whose branches brushed either arm. I ended up with substantial scratches on both arms. I thought this was updated with "Most Rugged" material? I am also not a fan of the drop hood at all. If you have any hooded layers underneath the hoods bunch up around your neck and are very uncomfortable. It is also not as protective as a storm good. Plus, when worn casually the collar does not look good at all folded down. The cut of the Large size has too narrow shoulders and too expansive of a midsection so when worn with a thicker midlayer your silhouette is very round. All that being said it is a very well built piece which strikes many good compromises to be the only shell you need.

I purchased my beta jacket 9 years ago. Obviously an older model but this thing could have been indestructible. This piece was a true soldier. I used it for hiking, a rain coat, outdoor exercise, you name it. It's oddly warm considering the thickness of the jacket. The material is so light yet dense, no wind gets through whatsoever. With proper layering this shell kept me warm and dry while spending a couple months in the winter. Only in the last 6 months ago did the coat decide to give up. All of the seams where the material is glued came apart. What I didn't know was that this coat needed to be washed more often. I would just wipe down the exterior as needed, but after speaking with a customer service rep from the company did I find out that after extensive use, body oils and sweat will eventually break down the adhesive glue. If I would have cared for it better I'm sure it would still be holding strong. 9 years of protection and versatility with this coat. I will be missed, but I'm keeping it as a relic and badge of honor. I'll definitely get another one soon.

I purchased this jacket over the summer in hopes of having some insurance against sketchy weather in the Alberta Rockies. I was worried about the bulk of this coat while reading the reviews; however I was pleasantly surprised when I actually got it in my pack for the first time. It is a little bulky but isn't too big of a sacrifice for what protection it brings you. It doesn't weigh a ton, and in my time so far in the rain with it - it has performed incredibly. I'm looking forward to doing some further testing with it in the winter, however as of now I'm quite happy with the purchase!

I bought this beta AR from a recommendation of a family member, and I never thought I would find myself spending that kind of money on an outer shell but I’m so glad I did. If you throw a nice base layer and middle layer under this outer shell you could walk clear through the tundra and feel warm and toasty without ever worrying that this garment will fail because it won’t! This company clearly puts the X in exceptional!!

Well made products. Fit was just as expected for Arc products. Great wind breaker to.

5”11” 165lbs 41” chest / 34” waist purchased size medium for alpine, touring, hiking, mountaineering. Jacket is comfortable, excellent weather proofing and durable. Had jacket for few years. Put through the ringer skiing glades, hitting branches you name it and while I have taken good care of it the jacket almost looks new. For most outings I’m wearing a base layer and atom LT and perfect amount of room and stay warm. On sub zero degree days add a vest or thicker puffy and it works but jacket is a bit tighter than I’d like. So if I had any complaints it’s that the jacket is bit tight and on the shorter side for cold powder ski trips-the rush or Sabre might be better for those or size up in this jacket if you plan to use in very cold.

This Beta AR was purchased to replace a well cared for ten year old Beta AR which unfortunately delaminated during a wash. I sent the jacket in for assessment as I believed the jacket still had some life left in it, however Arcteryx were only able to sew it which meant that the jacket was not going to be fully waterproof in the sewn areas. I asked if there was anything else that could be done to provide a fully waterproof repair but unfortunately there where no other alternatives. Now Arcteryx to their credit offered me a nice discount on a new jacket for which I accepted and the old jacket would be recycled. I pay a premium for their products and have never called upon warranty before but this kind of service re-enforced my belief that the products are built to last and that Arcteryx stand by their products. I'm one happy customer.

La veste est incroyable, je l’ai prise en dark elysium taille L. Elle est légère en poids, extrêmement confortable. La marque nous laisse de la place sous cette veste pour y mettre une veste en duvet par exemple. Pour la matière sans surprise le gortex est vraiment une matière très performante, on ne ressent pas le vent et l’eau glisse sur la veste ne laissant aucun reste d’eau. Je ne suis pas du genre à mettre beaucoup d’argent dans les vêtements mais j’ai voulu me faire plaisir en achetant une bonne veste que je pourrais garder au moins 10 ans, je ne suis pas déçu elle a l’air très robuste. En l’achetant, gardez en tête que vous investissez dans du matériel professionnel. Pour les mensurations je fais 190 cm et la taille L me va comme un gant, je suis à l’aise dedans et il me reste de la place pour faire du multicouche. Prenez votre taille habituelle où vous risquez de devoir la renvoyer. Je riens a dire que la marque nous pré imprime le bon de retour pour nous faciliter la démarche. Merci

I am 5"9, 180lbs... my normal fit is a medium, perhaps a large if the item is very fitted. I purchased a size M Beta AR and the sleeves are at my fingertips. I do NOT have short arms. Made some measurements and the sleeve length is NOT what is listed on the ArcTeryx size charts... measures closer to an XL. I thought this was an abberation so went i for an exchange and realized that all the size M's are made this way. I called support and was advised that "this was a design feature based on user feedback". They suggested i could have it tailored at my own cost (~$100). Unfortunately, due to the jacket being purchased for me by a friend and my being unable to pick it up in a timely manner, i am also past my 30 days for return. I am frankly dumbfounded. The explanation that this jacket is a shell and is looser fitted for layering makes no sense. We're talking about ~4 excess inches sleeve length which doesnt even come close to the company's own fit guide. Do YOUR hands come down to your knees? because your arms would have to be that long in order for the sleeve to be at a reasonable position around the heel of your hand, or even at the palm. I owned a Beta LT previously size M that was a great fit. And while i know jackets have different dimensions based on purpose, you're talking about ~4 inches in variance. That makes NO sense. Even if the jacket is "designed this way" it's obviously a design flaw and i find it VERY poor that arcteryx makes no effort to remedy this situation. As a defect, it should be given consideration under product warranty. I have no choice but to spend another $100 to fix this jacket so it can be worn now. After being a loyal customer for years who swore by your products, i have to say this experience has soured me. Would i recommend? Not anymore...

Just purchased a second one after destroying the last one. My previous Beta AR lasted 10 years. I wasn't very easy on it. Surprised it asked that long. Was happy to buy a new one knowing it would serve me well for the next decade.

Well-constructed, but way too small. I'm a 6-05 former collegiate athlete who still keeps fit. The size charts indicate that XXL will fit a chest measurement up to 50.5 inches. My chest measurement is 52-53 inches, which would easily be accommodated by a jacket in size 3XL. There are a lot of larger men like me who have become avid outdoor enthusiasts after their athletic careers ended, and I would not be surprised if your inventory of 3XL jackets sold out quickly (they do with other brands).
