DWR (acabado duradero repelente al agua) Nu

After a recent camping trip in heavy rain, I noticed my Beta SL jacket—after years of reliable use without treatment—was starting to show signs of potential wet-out, especially in the shoulders. I decided it was time to give it some care. I treated it first with Nu Technical Detergent, following the instructions, and then applied the Nu DWR. Now, the jacket beads water like it did when it was brand new, fully prepped for my next adventure and many more to come. Plus, I have plenty of product left for future treatments.

When spraying the product it obviously creates a deeper colour when wet, however with this new dwr that deep colour remains and the jacket colour is changed, even after drying. Instructions say to use a sponge to evenly spread and avoid staining. I did this, but still managed to miss a few small areas, which allows me to compare what colour my jacket used to be, vs what it’s been changed to. Arc’teryx team you need to warn people that they will be dying their gear with this product. I want my old jacket back. I used this to spray 2 pieces and they are both now ruined. Is Arc’teryx going to replace these?

Honestly one of the best products I've ever bought. It works exactly as advertised and brings back water repellence to all sorts of goretex brands. I used it on my Arc'teryx Beta LT jacket, a North Face Powder Guide Insulated jacket, and my Peak Performance Vertical Goretex Pro jacket. It brought back the waterproofing after a several wears and washes like new. I started with nikwax tech wash and then the waterproofing, once the jackets were wet I sprayed on the Nu DWR and let it dry for 24h. After the jackets were dry I threw them in the dryer on delicate (low heat) for 20m just for the Nu DWR to really set in. It might have been overkill with everything, but it worked like a charm.

This stuff works well, I bought a second bottle after re-proofing two old jackets. I re-proofed two pairs of old rain pants as well and still have half a bottle left. There is a vinegar smell for a few days after treatment, but I just left the garments out to air out and the smell is gone, while water is beading up/running off the garments instead of soaking in.

Got it to renew DWR coating on our jackets (Beta/Atom/Proton). With Atom and Proton everything was straightforward - applied after wash and put to tumble dryer, with Beta was less straightforward (there are different and a little bit not corresponding to each other videos on Arc’teryx website). It worked (works) perfectly on all three jackets! Great stuff! Ready for a rainy Scotland’s season (well, more rainy than summertime)!

it works really good you can also heat treat it like i did worked better that way but not required also make sure to get that great smelling detergent but also vinegar smell is not that strong people are just exaggerating

I wanted to add a little bit more info on this product as I was skeptical after reading some previous reviews. I used it on a Beta SV Goretex shell jacket, and another goretex shell of a different brand. When applying this spray it smells very strongly of vinegar. After drying in the dryer (low setting) the smell was still there but much weaker. I then hung the jacket outside for about 18 hours and the smell is completely gone. I tested the efficacy of the treatment by spraying the jacket with water and it beads up and rolls off incredibly well. Also for anyone wondering, putting the “vinegar soaked” garment in my dryer did not make my dryer smell at all. When applying this spray on the still-damp shell, I sprayed it all over, let it soak and drip off the excess for about 5 mins, then went over the whole thing with a sponge to spread it evenly and soak up any excess before putting in the dryer. It says on the bottle that heat treatment is not necessary with this product, but I am a believer in using the dryer to evenly disperse the coating on the garment, as well as helping to reduce the smell. Just be very careful to not melt your $800 jacket. Again I used a low setting, and checked it every five minutes until it was no longer damp anywhere, then hung outside. Bottom line: a little bit of extra care for your gear pays dividends when you need it to work for you. This product is worth the effort to use.

Used this on two different jackets and works well. Follow directions and water beads as it should. The smell the other reviews talk about, I can hardly smell but it is there initially. It isn’t very pronounced and goes away after a day or two so not something I even worried about myself.

Another review is quite critical, giving the product only 2 stars because of the vinegar smell. While it's true that the product has quite a strong vinegar smell, the smell is already dissipating for me after a day of wearing my coat outside. To me, it's well worth it to have a non PFC containing DWR spray. Any day I'd take a vinegar smell over dousing my coat (and potentially myself during the coating process) with harmful PFC's.
