Question 1

Does this cap have a spf rating?

River, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello there, thanks for your question. The Aerios 5 Panel Cap does not have an official SPF or UPF rating, so we wouldn’t recommend relying on it for certified sun protection. It’s designed primarily for lightweight comfort and breathability during fast‑moving activities.

Question 2

My head measures 57cm which puts me right in between the S/M and L/XL sizes. Which do you recommend I get based on the fit of the cap?

Seymour · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thanks for reaching out. We appreciate you reaching out about sizing for the Aerios 5 Panel Cap. As the shock cord adjustment at the back is adjustable, if your measurements are between sizes, select a larger size for a looser fit or a smaller size for a tighter fit. You can also purchase both and take advantage of our free return policy and return the size that doesn't fit. We hope this helps!

Question 3

Do the two sizes only differ in head circumference, or does the L/XL also have greater depth (crown height)?

Helio, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi Nicolas, thank you for your question. Yes, there is a slight difference in total depth between the two sizes. Here are the key depth measurements for each size:

Size S/M:
Hat Across Depth: 31.8cm
Hat Top Length (center front to center back - excluding the back opening): 30cm

Size L/XL:
Hat Across Depth: 33.4cm
Hat Top Length (center front to center back - excluding the back opening): 31.6cm

We hope this helps!

Question 4

Suppose that you have 6 caps with panels 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 , respectively. How does the number of panels affect the fit, durability, and breathability of a cap?

Sophie · Accepted Answer

Thanks for your question. The number of panels primarily affects how the cap is constructed and contributes to its overall shape, but it’s not the main factor when it comes to performance or comfort. Fit is more influenced by the cap’s design and silhouette than by panel count. Similarly, durability depends on the materials used, whether it’s a 5-panel or a trucker style, and breathability is driven by fabric choice and features like mesh or ventilation zones. If you’re still unsure or have more questions, feel free to reach out directly, we’re happy to help. https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/help/contact

Question 5

One cap has a drawcord. Another cap has a shock cord. Their weight is insignificant. Your objective is to run very fast on road or trail without worrying about the cap. Which cap do you choose? Why?

Seymour · Accepted Answer

Hi Willard, thanks for reaching out. The Aerios 5 Panel Cap is a fast-drying, lightweight running hat with a quick-adjust shock cord closure that ensures a secure fit while moving quickly on the road or trail. For trail and road runs, we recommend the Aerios 5 Panel Cap or the Norvan Cap, as they are specifically designed to enhance comfort and visibility. We hope this helps!

Question 6

Has anyone wore Aerios 5 Panel Cap or Norvan trail running cap with a Head Circumference of 54.6 cm (21.5") with a quality fit?

Seymour · Accepted Answer

Hi Willard, thanks for reaching out. We recommend referring to our sizing chart and fit guide with your measurements to find the best fit. That said, the Aerios 5 Panel Cap in size S/M has a circumference of 57.0 cm and is adjustable, allowing for a smaller fit if necessary. We hope this helps!

Question 7

In what way is the Aerios 5 cap technical?

Sophie · Accepted Answer

Hello, the Aerios 5 Panel Cap is considered technical because it's designed with performance-focused materials and features that support high-output activities like running or hiking. It’s made with fast-drying fibers and an ultralight construction to keep you comfortable during movement. The breathable fabric allows moisture vapor to escape, helping regulate temperature and reduce that clammy feeling. Additionally, the quick-adjust shock cord at the back ensures a secure fit that’s easy to fine-tune on the go. We hope this answers your question!

Question 8

How does DWR differ from Silvador?

Sophie · Accepted Answer

Hello, thanks for your question! DWR (Durable Water Repellent) and Silvadur™ serve different purposes in garment performance. DWR is a special treatment applied to the outer fabric of most GORE-TEX products. It helps water bead off the surface rather than soak in, which enhances waterproofness and prevents that clammy feeling during wear. Over time, DWR can wear down, but reapplying it helps restore the fabric’s ability to repel moisture effectively. Silvadur™, on the other hand, is an anti-odor treatment. It uses antimicrobial technology to prevent odor-causing bacteria from building up on the fabric, keeping your gear fresher for longer. It’s non-toxic and designed to maintain long-lasting freshness, especially during active use. We hope this clarifies things!

Question 9

Does either drawcord or shock cord work better? How?

Sophie · Accepted Answer

Hi Willard, great question! Both drawcords and shock cords serve different purposes, and which one works best depends on the intended use. Drawcords are non-elastic and typically used to tighten or gather fabric. They offer a firm hold and are great for static adjustments, like cinching a hood or waistband, where you want the fit to stay exactly as set. Shock cords, like the one used on this cap, are elastic and designed to stretch and conform. They’re ideal for securing a snug fit while allowing flexibility and movement. The shock cord adjustment at the back of this cap holds the fit comfortably and is easy to operate on the go, making it especially useful for active wear. We hope this helps clarify the difference. If you have any other questions about fit or function, feel free to reach out.

Question 10

Does either Norvan cap or Aerios 5 cap have a longer brim? Buy how much?

Sophie · Accepted Answer

Hi Willard, thanks for your question! Between the two styles, the Aerios 5 Panel Cap features a longer brim at 6.5 cm, while the Norvan Hat has a slightly shorter brim measuring 5.4 cm, a difference of 1.1 cm. This added length on the Aerios may offer a bit more shade and coverage, depending on your needs. We hope this helps clarify the difference. If you have any other questions about fit or features, feel free to reach out!
