Subtle but versatile

A very lightweight, yet warm, sweater (although hidden in the fleece category). Works perfect as a heavier base layer or just hanging out with your friends. The MAP technology contours to the body and really is a must have. I loved it so much I bought this in three different colors. Awesome wearing on the plane as well. If only Arcteryx made a travel/business clothing this could fit into that category as well.

Versatile and classy

I have used the hooded Hallam in deep winter, primarily for lift-served skiing, and feared this piece might be too warm for most applications. However, I have been pleased to find that this sweater/base layer/dressy piece is an absolute shapeshifter, and it has become my go to warm layer when I can only bring one for a variety of applications. I've used it shooting in the backcountry on skis, followed by a long flight, directly into a presentation for Arc'teryx's winter film tour, and never did I feel like I had the wrong piece for the job. The seamless knit is incredibly comfortable and doesn't pinch or smother, and the merino ensures you can go trips and wears between washes. Good luck finding another sweater as at home on a ski hill as a dinner reservation, I'll be grabbing a few of these to hold onto.

i must be in the minority because i love the lower ride of of the neck collar. never liked the feeling of being choked much. feels real soft against bare skin.

A Year In, Still My Favorite Go-To Sweater!

Made from high-quality merino wool, it’s incredibly warm, with all the benefits that make merino such a fantastic material: breathability, natural odor resistance, and temperature regulation. Great shirt but the neck is lacking

I didn't like the neck on the shirt. Even on the model, you can see how it is cut wide. However, it is still a very comfortable shirt made with very high-quality material.
However, I prefer my new Ionia Merino Wool Shirt over this one. It's lightweight and breathable, as Merino wool always is, and it also just makes a nicer long-sleeve shirt.
With that said, I did wear this sweater when I hiked Mount Kilimanjaro. It's a very nice middle layer that is excellent for all things outdoors, especially if you want something a little bit warmer than the Ionia Merino Wool Shirt. As you can see from the pics, I wore it as my base layer on Summit day, which was very cold and kept me warm while not overheating during the climb. I then was able to drop my Gore-Tex and inner shell to just wear the shirt on the long descent down.
I would buy this sweater again if the next generation had a more classically fitting neck
