Overpriced, not warm

While this jacket sure looks nice, it's way too expensive for what it offers, especially when compared to competitors with the same price range. The zipper does not go into the slider and drives you crazy because it either gets stuck or you have a hard time sliding it down. The jacket itself is not warm at all. I live in Saskatchewan (-25 to -40 C) and I feel the cold in my spine when I wear this jacket. Even though I went a size down, the cold air escape through. The sleeves are not coughed which does not help at all. In all, this was the worst $850 I ever spent in my life. Worst part is I can't even return it because I don't have an arcteryx store in my city. TLDR: Do not waste your money

Customer Service
Hello There, Thanks for taking the time to share your valuable feedback with us.   Our customers and designers will read these reviews, so we appreciate it when others share their experiences with us. We're genuinely sorry to hear that you're disappointed in the current index Therme Parka. If you Therme was purchased online, it can be returned within 60 days of purchase, with tags attache and in unworn condition.   Many times our opinions on gear can be subjective, and warmth is one of those subjective issues. Often times, Arc'Teryx will prioritize overall design as opposed to one aspect of design, such as warmth. Our Therme Parka is not the warmest of our Parkas, and perhaps the Thorsen would have suited your needs better. A general warmth chart can be found at the bottom of most insulated jackets under the Warmth Comparison. Because of the double-ended zipper, opening and closing the jacket can sometimes be finicky. If you feel this is a manufacturing issue though, we invite you to fill out a product Service Form, found here: https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/help/product-service/service-request/   If you have any questions or concerns regarding our products, we welcome you to contact our Customer Service Department. at 1-866-458-2473 (available Monday-Friday 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM PST). One of our representatives would be happy to assist you. All the best.

Quality jacket delivering performance as intended.

I have several Arc’teryx jackets for use in environments ranging from the unpredictable British climate to Icelandic winters. This was my first luxury purchase of an Arc’teryx jacket from the lifestyle range. This was purchased for the reason it was designed - the winter city commute (by foot) including all the winter weather that can be experienced while travelling in Reykjavik. I can understand all the comments in other reviews but for me, all is good with this jacket. The pockets are nicely sized and provide protection from the weather. Some comment on a lack of insulation but I think they are fine. If cold, I will wear gloves and the pockets are still a perfect size. I find the hood provides excellent protection when you want to be fully protected from wind/rain/snow. For me, this outweighs any perceived issues with bulk that others have described. The chest pocket (external) is perfect for a phone and the internal chest pocket will take a wallet. The double zip is perfect for flexibility. Keeps the top weatherproof while allowing extra movement if you unzip the bottom (stairs/sitting etc). Some have commented on the lack of double zip on the Camosun parka but that is a shorter jacket. There is no chest pocket (external) on the Camosun and the removable hood seemed less protective to me. I chewed over the two coats but went for the Therme. The Camosun has the appeal of a neat cut but the below key features influenced my decision. Key features: double zip, internal/external chest pocket, slim hand pockets, good winter length, relaxed fit (I take medium) allows flexibility with layering, strong sense of quality urban winter jacket with Arc’teryx premium weather security. I also have to say I emailed Arc’teryx several times when making my decision. The customer service was extremely efficient with fast replies to my questions. It is worth noting that when customers are deliberating, fast replies to queries are extremely appreciated and help reinforce the decision to pay premium prices for top quality products.

They run a wee bit big (I’m a medium almost all of the time, and wholly a medium in Patagonia’s sizing, but with this parka and my arcteryx shell I’m a small). Anyway, the compliments just keep coming with this jacket. It’s warm it’s gore-Tex it’s my go-to baby boy now. Perfect for bike commutes when ya don’t know what kind of precip you’ll get. Could definitely schuss in this bad boy too.

Not bad but not great either

Arcteryx as a very expensive brand has to be perfect but its not. The zipper is the worst I have seen, I mean if you cannot make zippers that can easily close as a jacket manufacturer, then what are you doing with your days? You literally have to put in a lot of work to align the zippers otherwise forget about it, it's not happening. This jacket is good looking and well built but overall is not as warm as other competitors of the same price. The jacket is lightweight because it is not actually able to keep you that warm, for the price this is unacceptable. If I spent 550 pounds on a jacket I need it to keep me warm before anything. I felt this was also the case with other Arcteryx jackets I have owned and I will probably not buy another one after this as they seem to have pushed up their profit margin towards the detriment of the quality they provide, which is a shame.

Great construction. Keeps the wind out around the neck and waist. Effective insulation. Nice style. Great for everyday use when my heart rate is normal, and I’m not producing extra body heat. Nice when damp cold air is blowing off of Lake Ontario. It’ll be great whenever I’m visiting the Rockies! I love this parka! I’m 6’2” 215 lbs. athletic/weight training build. Appalling Customer Service

I have been using and abusing Arc'teryx products for close to 20 years - there is a first generation Alpha SV buried deep in a closet somewhere. Throughout this time and through all of my purchases the quality of product and service has been beyond reproach. I was recently emailed a single use discount as a reward and opted to use it to discount the purchase of a Therme Parka. The jacket duly arrived and while the quality of the coat was up to the usual high standard the colour wasn't quite what I expected from the website. With monitor calibration etc. these things happen so no big deal I'll just exchange for a different colour... I contacted customer services to arrange an exchange only to be told that Arc'teryx don't exchange goods so I would need to return the coat and that they would charge me full price for the replacement. While I understand that policies exist this lack of flexibility and unwillingness to help has made the original gesture to award longstanding loyalty seem really rather hollow. All I wanted was to swap the coat for a different colour. We all see the value in the quality of an Arc'teryx product but we pay handsomely for this quality. I would hope that Arc'teryx would see more than just the financial value in their customers.

Great jacket

I have this jacket for a week in winter Vancouver, BC. I bus/skytrain to work, it is enough for walk on street. The desire is good looking, especial has extra small size option. there are a couple things can be improved, 1. the hand pocket is shallow even consider I have small hands. The up inside pocket is shallow too, only good for small wallet, not a boarding pass as mentioned and both in/out up pocket is not offset and caused contents stack. 2. the collar is too high which covers my mouth, this maybe my own preference.

Warm, but missing a few details

Starting with what’s right: this parka is warm, comfortable, and looks stunning. Hood is the right size, zippers glide smoothly, and the elastic cuffs inside the sleeves are wonderful. But the pockets are a critical detail that Arc’teryx missed on this winter coat. First, there are no internal or external large drop pockets for a scarf, hat, or gloves. Second, the hand pockets are very small. I have normal hands (I think) and if I put my hand all the way in the pocket up to my wrist, I have to ball my hand into a fist for it to fit. Last, the microfiber fleece inside the hand pockets is only on the palm side. This means that my fist touches the nice soft fleece, while my chapped knuckles rub on the shell fabric on the shell side of the fabric. Not sure why the whole pocket wouldn’t be fleece. Again, smart looking jacket, but pockets on a parka are a detail that should be thought through on a $700 cost.

But The Collar is too Big!

So I bought this jacket at a great sports gear store in NYC about 2 weeks ago. It’s been in 40 down to 20 degree weather. This was a big buy for me and I really want to love this jacket but the bottom line is the collar let’s heat out and wind in. When I keep the collar closed with a hoodie sweatshirt for example, the jacket is great. BUT, the collar is so big around the neck it lets cold air in and warmth out. Outside of this, and this is big, the jacket is awesome. Easy to use, lightweight and feels good. Looks very nice and has great features. I am 5’-11.5”, a 41”-42” chest and fit but not skinny. A small was just too tight in the chest and too short in the arms. I may have a snap added at the collar to let me close it up nicely.

Warm and good fit... but pocket design needs work

Purchased from the Arc'teryx Outlet Store. It's very warm without being heavy like my 40 year old Woolrich down coat. Others have mentioned that the size was too large but Medium fit my 5'6" frame pretty comfortably. The extra length also helps keep my backside warm. As noted, the only issue is with the placement of the inside and outside left breast pockets. With a wallet on the inside and a cellphone in the outside pocket, the the contents stack uncomfortably. This is because both pockets are at the same place rather than being offset. For example, the inner pocket could be positioned slightly lower.

Great minimalist parka

I live in NYC and was looking for a sleek parka to wear over tailored clothing to work during winter months and this coat really hits the mark. It has a great minimalist silhouette and is super warm. In particular i really love the 2 way zipper which streamlines digging into pants pockets, riding a bike and even hitting the urinal. I also really like the quilted hood which has a lot more structure than hoods on Gore-Tex shell jackets which I rarely use. I'd recommend this jacket for temps in the 30's and below. Any warmer and you'll cook. While I wear this coat in an urban setting it's also a great parka for any suburban and rural pursuits.

Wanted to find a warm down coat that was not plastered with logos and free of animal fur. A store clerk recommended the Therme, even though his store was completely out of stock . Sourced it at another store and also took home the Thorsen model . Was iniatially concerned about all the comments here about the hood being too large . This turned out to be a non issue . The hood seems very similar in size to the hood on my Sunice ski jacket, so I honestly don’t understand why some folks are unhappy with it? Roomy but not too much , is my take. Tested it back to back with the more expensive Thorsen on a walk with Biscuit on a -25 degree Ottawa evening, and found it to be super warm. The coat has great lines, is minimalist in design and very light. So many people in Ottawa own the Canada Goose coat ,my opinion that the Therme is a much more attractive coat for work or city living .

Superb City Jacket

As a weekend ice climber and some-time alpine climber, I have a lot of Arc'teryx gear. And one of the best investments I ever made early on was getting a hard-shell jacket. What I had hoped for though was to have something that was warm like a down coat, wind and moisture proof like a shell, but chic enough so I don't look like a dirt bag ice climber full of layers when out on town. Enter the Therme parka - it is everything I had hoped for and I write this as temperatures plummeted down to minus 30 with the windchill here in Ottawa today. I was apprehensive a little bit when purchasing this given that Arc'teryx zippers tend to be a little bit iffy and I would say this still stays true on this parka. But apart from that, I can easily say it's the best winter jacket for the city I have ever owned. I usually wear a M, the S is perfect so be aware that it runs a bit large so size down. Awesome jacket

You get what you pay for

Feeling obliged to write one as I have been a long time fan of Arc"teryx gear. It was a gamble. Haven't had to wear a jacket like this for many years but now live in Norway and the weather just demands something like this as a minimum. I am impressed, though I wish these things were less expensive. Initially some difficulty getting use to the zippers as the lower one may be prone to ripping out if you are not careful when you sit or squat. After two + months wearing it in all sorts of weather every day, no complaints.

Good coat with few flaws

It fits quite large, I usually wear a medium sometimes even a M is too snug for me, for example the camosun or the atom LT medium fits a bit tight but a large would be too loose. But for Therme I have to wear a small and it fits fine with room to layer a tshirt and a light fleece underneath. Also about the water proof goretex, its just weird as I tested it by placing the coat sleeve under running water and the water seems to just run off it and I don't see any wet marking, but when I went out wearing this coat in light heavy rain, the outer fabric seems to be getting wet and I see wet markings all over the coat after I came home. As to the hood, I don't get why it's still designed to hold a ski helmet inside, since its intended purpose is for the more urban scenario, I doubt many ppl would ski in this coat. The sleeves r a bit too long so I had them shortened by a good tailor, otherwise this feels like a good coat, and it's better suited for the city. It feels warm, although I haven't tested it in 0° and below temps, which I will next month when I will go to -30° environment, and yes I plan to bring this coat....don't let me freeze.
