Grant started out in the ‘80s as a climber and ski patroller, soon becoming a mountain guide and pursuing his dream to climb and ski all over the world. He cut his teeth through the ‘90s climbing and guiding rock, ice and alpine routes, expedition climbing, teaching avalanche courses, pioneering heli ski runs and doing contract avalanche control projects. In 2003, following a major avalanche tragedy, Grant was hired by Parks Canada to design and implement broad changes to Canada’s public avalanche safety systems. Grant’s subsequent study of risk changed an industry and produced systems and methods that have been implem ented around the world. Today Grant works as a mountain rescue specialist and avalanche forecaster for Parks Canada, runs annual ski trips to Japan and regularly consults on alpine risk projects worldwide. He’s been with Arcteryx since 1997.
