Insanely lightweight, perfect touch of warmth

My review title says it all…this vest is incredible. I log 20+ miles weekly and in winter and shoulder seasons I need that touch of warmth without feeling too bulky. This is the industry’s best I’ve found. It layers perfectly in deep winter and is a great combo with a long sleeve or base layer in Fall/Spring. Highly recommend!

Perfect for runners

I really like this running vest. Its perfect. Love the weight and light insulation on the chest. The back panel is perfect for dumping excess heat.The pockets in the back are a little loose for my taste.

Close to being great.

Really enjoy the Coreloft 40 insulation in the front and vented back, as that’s the first place I start to sweat. This vest adds a ton of versatility to my winter running kit, and I find myself always bringing it with me thanks to its light/compact size.
It does not need hand warming pockets as it’s a running vest. Arcteryx sells multiple other vest with hand pockets if that’s what you need.
I would trade the rear stuff pocket for a chest pocket, as I find the rear pocket to be kind of useless. Like others have said, items tend to bounce out, so it’s only really good a stuff pocket and no valuables.
If the next iteration adds these updates it’ll be an easy 5/5

Not for cycling

Purchased for road cycling. Vest fits nice and looks good but does not provide enough wind protection. My old uninsulated, mesh back Castelli wind vest works better. I assume the lack of wind protection is probably what makes the Norvan more breathable? I wanted something that would provide a bit of warmth with minimal insulation and was easy to carry but the intrusion of wind through the fabric offsets the benefits I was hoping to get. I guess it is only meant for running? But even if that is so, at such a high price the product should be fully feature packed.

I would expect that a simple vest, made with minimal amount of material and priced over $200, would be wind proof. Runners must not encounter wind....?

Terrible item. Stains if you look at it. Wore it once and it somehow marked. Wipe if with water and the stain got bigger. Stuck it in the wash and the stain did come out, but gained about 3 others. Top also looks about 5 years old now . Joke ! Guess it was only cheap... £150 cheap !!! You don't get what you pay for in this case. Doesn't even deserve 1 star. I'd avoid this one !!

Wind and cold protection with great breathing

Great design and function. I have used the Atom Sl vest for running until now. The Norvan vest is thinner, but much better for running because of the breathing panel at the back, and low package volume. It also have reflective details. This will be a favorite to protect for wind and cold. If you need pockets I recommend adding a belt like the Norvan belt.

A very average running vest

This vest will become part of my standard kit for crispy shoulder season runs, warmer winter days, biking, and long mountain runs. It adds some warmth and wind protection to the torso, which will be especially nice on the days when I struggle to pick what base layer to wear or when conditions shift.
Now for the downsides - there are no hand pockets, which I would love to see for small items or to warm the hands a bit. the rear pocket closure has a very loose stretch material closure, so it's useless for any items you care about, and if you carry the vest by the clip in that pocket, bouncing from running pops the vest out of the stow pocket. The vest is also not trim fit, and fits similar to any of my normal XL regular fit. If you're between sizes, I would almost argue to downsize. Lastly, the photos on the website of the black vest imply it has a stowe away hood. It does not.
If it has some zipper pockets and proper trim fit, this would be a solid 5 star.

I get some of the comments here, but for clarification the Norvan IS Vest in question is a (trail) running specific vest, hence the lack of need and practicability of there being pockets–which add unnecessary bulk in this case, and detract from essentialist design.
Additionally, the photos do not imply that there is a stow-hood. In terms of the hood in question, which is not mentioned in the product features or description (surprise, because it's not a feature), the hood is clearly coming from the top that the model is wearing in addition to the vest–appropriate winter layering in this very case.
But other than that, I do agree with your opinions, on the decisions made in terms of fit over the past year.
