Warm boot, slippery rubber and laces

hace 3 meses
I've used this boot for several winters of ice climbing in the Rockies. Pros: Look cool Very warm Removable bootie is great for drying boots out on overnight trips Durable vibram rubber on the sole Cons: Rubber isn't as grippy as other boots The laces on the inner booties don't stay tight The rubber around the toe welt isn't durable Overall these boots have been great for staying warm in the Rockies, however it's now falling behind the latest boots from other brands

Great boots! Liner needs to be fixed

hace 3 meses
Great boots super warm with a nice sleek profile when on. They give your ankle nice support when on crampons. The only down side is that there is no zipper or Velcro system on the inner liner so it is hard to put on and take off. But otherwise a good boot

Great but could be cold

hace 7 meses
The boots are fine if you go below 5km altitude. I had no problems with them on mt. Shasta this season. So I took them on the trip in Peru this summer. On Mt. Misti (5800m) I got cold feet at the altitude of 5300m (also there was a wind about 50km/hour and chill factor about -15C.) the feet got really cold in this shoes. The size of this boot fits right, length and width are perfect, leaving some space for various socks to use with. However the inner liner is very difficult to put on. My foot's arches have a very hard time getting through the opening and that is in a thin sock. No question about using a thick one. No way. Even with the thin sock, I had to use a biner so I can grab the liner's end at the carabiner with all the fingers of the hand and pull at the biner in order for my heel/arch to get through the opening. I wish I could use a thick wool socks! Perhaps the laces or zipper on the liner will solve this problem, I am pretty sure that with the right sock there will be no question with the cold feet about 5km even with the wind factor. Otherwise, the shoes are great, work excellent on various terrain (rock, snow, ice, sand, etc).

Not Durable

hace 7 meses
I wish I could give these boots a better review but after 3 seasons of light use the toe has a massive hole and the zipper is not working (even with regular lubing). Unfortunately Arc’teryx will not replace or repair these under their new policies. It’s unfortunately because these boots are extremely comfortable, light, and precise. I also love how you can remove the liners to dry them out, especially on multi-day trips. Hopefully Arc’teryx will enhance the durability of these boots, as I would be very loyal to this product.

Low profile, warm and light

hace 8 meses
This boot is completely fabulous. The double layer construction means you stay warm and dry and the slight curve on the soul makes it very comfortable to walk in. The cramping attachment points are well designed and climbing on ice with the boots feels fantastic. They are also unbelievably light and low profile which really enhances a feeling of mobility. I've had experience with bigger Alia heavier boots and wearing these was definitely a breath of fresh air. Recommended

Thight inner liner.

Good outer boot- feels well when climbing. The inner liner is very thight to slip in and it´s very hard to take off the inner liner. The access is so thight. Would be better if it is stretchy.

Good idea but can be improved upon

hace 9 meses
Bought this boot in size 10 (turned out to be too small). The difficulty to put it on and off is huge. I.e. I have different (by .5 size )feet (slightly as common in most humans) . The one which is shorter by .5 size have a bigger and thicker arch with larger incline and no matter how hard I try I can not put it through the opening of the inner boot. Finally I managed. But doing this on the 18000ft altitude would be impossible. Guys simple zipper is needed or velcro (better!). please consider. Returned them back. May try .5 size bigger but I doubt it will solve the problem with inner boot and high arch.

Exceptional Boots

hace 10 meses
I have now used these boots for 3 winter seasons guiding and climbing in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. I have found the boots to be exceptionally durable, comfortable, and climb well. I have used Cassin Blade Runners when climbing steep ice and mixed and when paired with these stiff crampons they climb very well. I haven't experienced the durability issues that others have complained about in construction of the toe box. That said I am a light person (~130lb/60kg) and I take care to have good technique when kicking steps into ice. These keep my feet very warm and dry for all conditions in Colorado throughout the Winter.

I would say the inners function badly.

hace 11 meses
I am a professional customer, and receive these boots quite recently, the outers are fantastic, but the inners are disapointing... they are very difficult to put on and off even , and the top hem presses far too sharply into my shin bone. I realise the intention is that the inners should be watertiught, but I don't plan on wading through rivers with these inners!! This discomfort is a great pity because otherwise the boot is great.

Lightweight and Warm

hace 11 meses
I had previously owned a different pair of boots, but what struck me immediately about these ones was their lightweight design. The weatherproofing has been incredibly useful this season, especially since many of the approaches have been wetter than usual. I no longer worry about my feet getting soaked during creek crossings. These boots have kept me warm and dry throughout.

Very breathable and comfortable

hace un año
I've been using these boots for many years. They perform great because of their breathability. As a very sweaty person, my limiting factor for warmth is how well my feet can breathe. The ability for sweat to wick and evaporate in the Acrux AR keeps my feet warm and functional. I've done everything from mountaineering in the Himalayas (6000ers) to climbing wet ice in Northeastern Canada and USA in the winter. I've replaced the inner lace with a quick lace which I find more convenient. The one gripe I have is that the T-Zip sometimes split (may be because of the quick lace adding bulk). I just find that I have to be careful and move the zipper slowly. Once it's all the way, there is no concern. The boot I find is slightly less durable than some leather options but it excels in its weight and breathability (which is what helps it keep me so warm).

Warm, waterproof and super comfortable

hace un año
I honestly love these boots, I've used them for ice climbing and winter mountaineering for two seasons. Durability seems to be good so far. I went with my street shoe size and these fit me perfectly. With the double boot I've got some warm feet which is what sold me on them in the first place. The only negative is the lacing system. Can be a little tricky to tighten them if needed while climbing. I do appreciate the boa system for this on other boots.

Good idea but terrible construction.

hace un año
Comfortable and warm but unfortunately only suitable for about 20 days of ice climbing only. The toe welt and toe cap began disintegrating early in their life and are no longer water proof. The zippers chronically fail without cause. Tight chairs superglue and barge cement have prolonged the life a bit but durability is poor and the boots cannot be relied upon for moderate altitude climbing. The warranty on these is only one year so by the time the average user starts to develop these issues, arcteryx won’t stand by the product.

Dommage.

Soreness cured!

Always had acute soreness in feet after a day out around middle toe. Tried various other boots with wide and narrower fit. Also suffered from cold feet. The boots have changed all of that for me. Comfy, warm, waterproof and seem to have alleviated the soreness. Very happy. Not had long enough to comment on durability yet

Arc’teryx Acrux AR Mountaineering Boot

hace un año
Usually wait at least a year of seasons before writing reviews. Had these boots for a couple of years now so two full winter and adjacent mid seasons. Boots have stood up very well to upper wear and tear. The zip lube a big hit for maintaining functionality. Boots stiff enough for steep ice front pointing on monos but still supple enough for general mountaineering and walk ins. Only issue is the toes wearing quite noticeably and wondering how to repair these. Rest of sole coping well with general wear.

Great all around technical and warm boot

hace un año
I bought this boot because I have an ample amount of Arc gear which serves me well in my Ice climbing/mixed/rock endeavors. I was looking for a warmer boot which wasn’t going to weigh a ton. I read reviews talking about the inner boot being impossible to get on, and the boot being far too narrow. I have a somewhat wide foot so I was a tad wary. I took my chance with these and was extremely happy with my purchase. Initially they were a tad snug (I bought them in my street size) and after walking around they were very comfortable, and did not feel uncomfortable or too tight. I wore them out in Nabesna, Alaska to do some ice/mixed climbing in temperatures down to -20. With heinous approaches through snow and talus with monster elevation gain, they stood up great. My feet were warm despite being out all day in negative temps. I’d like to state that I was moving a lot through the mountains which helped to stay warm. Sure, if I was standing around on a belay they would be a bit chilly, but once I started moving they were good to go.

Cuff on inner boot too small to insert foot!

hace un año
The boots looked nice, and I read OK reviews except for durability. I wanted to try them on, but the cuff on the inner boot is only about 4" diameter and does not stretch, or open up in any way suitable for me to get the inner boot on beyond my ankle (mens US 10.5). So, couldn't even try the boot on, and it was an immediate return.

I’ve been using these boots for two seasons now and they remain warm and dry. The removable liners are great! They make drying out the boots a snap! The boots are still light and nimble bulky despite having the liner. Only complaint is that the red plastic that goes over the toe cracked and crumbled out. It appears to just be cosmetic so a little shoe goo covered it right up.

Good design

I really like the concept of a light B3 boot with removable liner. As far as I know is the only brand that has one. Other boots with liner are heavier and designed for higher/colder mountains. It really helps to keep them dry.

I've had these boots for three seasons and they are phenomenal. Warm, comfy, and above all else, dry! I've been lucky enough to try quite a few different sets of boots and I can't say how impressed I am with these. Comfortable on long approaches, long climbing days, and above all else bone dry even when water is flowing over them on warm sunny days! I don't know what other people are doing to their boots to crack the toe box, but even after three full seasons of hard climbing on soft plastic ice and granite like ice, I don't have anything but a few scuffs on the front of my boots.

My rands peel back at the toe from post holing in snow, like walking all the way down from Hood to the parking lot in the afternoon. I still love the boots; I just seam grip the rands before the season, and after they peel back again. It's the best boot design. I wish Salewa would do it because I could wear a half to full size smaller - they're lasts are wider.

Not so good

Not happy with the boot tensioning system, and the overall durability of these boots. After two seasons of trying to make these boots work I’m moving on. For one, the lacing system is quite inadequate at staying tight through movement. When it’s time to snug up the laces, it takes some time and faffing to unzip the gator system for adjusting. Recently I’ve learned that I much prefer boots that have a Boa style adjustment dial on the outside for quick and easy tension trimming. Secondly, I find the power straps (above the laces) are not long enough and the velcro on the straps don’t line up very well. It’s common for me to put these boots on and start walking to immediately realized the power straps are way too tight and there’s not really any adjustment for loosening. Thirdly, I found the use of materials in the outer toe box to be of a very poor quality. Very torn up. I would not recommend to anyone.

Bota Acrux AR GTX
