Its combination of warmth, breathability, and weather resistance makes it well-suited to high-output activities in cold temperatures, particularly on dry days or for uphill travel. That said, because it is a softshell and not a fully waterproof hardshell, it will not provide the same level of protection as dedicated ski-specific jackets in prolonged snow, wind, or wet conditions. If your primary use is resort or backcountry skiing and you're looking for maximum weather protection, you may wish to consider ski-focused styles such as the Rush Jacket or Macai Jacket, which are purpose-built for winter mountain conditions. Many guests also choose to wear the Gamma MX as a midlayer underneath a hardshell for added warmth and versatility. We hope this helps clarify its intended use.

How should this be washed if the jacket is water resistant? How can I maintain this feature of beading?

Hello there, thanks for reaching out! The Gamma MX Hoody should be washed just like any of our technical or GORE‑TEX pieces to help maintain its DWR (Durable Water Repellent) performance.

WASHING  
Step 1 — Prepare the garment
- Close the main zipper
- Open pocket zippers and release tension on all drawcords
- Loosen and lightly re‑secure the Velcro cuffs

Step 2 — Wash and rinse
- Add a technical cleaning agent as directed on the bottle
- Wash on medium heat using a regular cycle
- Run a second rinse cycle to remove any soap residue (soap can compromise DWR)

DRYING
- Tumble dry on medium heat for 40–50 minutes — this helps reactivate the DWR
- Test the surface with a light spray of water; if it’s no longer beading, it’s time to re‑apply DWR

ABOUT DWR  
DWR is what causes water to bead and roll off your Gamma MX. Over time, it can wear down — especially in high‑wear areas like the back, shoulders, and cuffs — which is completely normal. Garments where the DWR has worn off can be easily restored by re‑applying a DWR treatment.

DWR APPLICATION
- Lay the jacket flat
- Shake your DWR spray well and apply evenly
- Wipe the surface with a clean cloth or sponge for an even finish
- Tumble dry for 10–20 minutes to boost effectiveness

La Gamma MX Hoody ofrece protección ligera frente a los elementos, pero no está diseñada para ofrecer la protección de una auténtica chaqueta impermeable para lluvia o nieve. Su tejido softshell Fortius™ 2.0 ofrece una excelente protección contra el viento, abrigo y elasticidad, y aguanta bien la nieve ligera o exposiciones breves e intermitentes a la humedad. Para lluvia persistente, nieve húmeda o exposiciones prolongadas, conviene combinarla con una chaqueta impermeable GORE-TEX para que la protección sea completa.

which one was warmer between this and Beta (the same priced one)? Can't really find the difference between these two.

Although we do not rate our garments based on warmth, as warmth can depend on various factors, including layering, activity level, and personal comfort, the Gamma MX Hoody will generally feel warmer than the Beta Jacket. The Beta is a hardshell GORE-TEX jacket designed for waterproof protection, whereas the Gamma MX is a softshell jacket that features a poly fleece backer that provides light insulation and added warmth. If warmth is your priority, the Gamma MX is the better choice. If you're looking for waterproof protection in wet conditions, the Beta Jacket would be the better option. We hope this helps!

Hallo und danke für deine Frage. Der Gamma MX Hoody ist nicht wasserdicht, weshalb wir das Imprägnierprogramm nach der Wäsche nicht empfehlen. Befolge die anschließenden Pflegeanleitungen für die besten Ergebnisse:

- Schonwaschgang bei niedriger Temperatur (30 °C)
- Bei niedriger Temperatur (pflegeleicht, Schonprogramm) im Wäschetrockner trocknen
- Nicht bleichen
- Dunkle Farben separat waschen
- Nicht chemisch reinigen
- Bei niedriger Temperatur bügeln
- Keinen Weichspüler verwenden
- Extra Spülgang nutzen

What is the difference between gamma Mx hoody and gamma hoody ? In terms of warmth, how is gamma compared to proton hoody and atom hoody ?

Hello there, thanks for reaching out. We do not rate our garments for temperature as there are too many factors that influence this result from person to person. That said the main difference between the Gamma MX Hoody and the Gamma Hoody is the material used. The Gamma MX Hoody is designed for mixed weather conditions, featuring Fortius 2.0™ softshell fabric that offers enhanced durability, wind resistance, and an increased warmth-to-weight ratio. In comparison, the Gamma Hoody uses Wee Burly Double Weave fabric, which is lighter and more breathable. The Proton Hoody and Atom Hoody will provide more warmth than the Gamma line, as the Gamma pieces don’t have any insulation. Both the Proton and Atom are synthetically insulated midlayers while the Gamma line are softshells. The Proton and Atom can both be paired with a Gamma to create a versatile layering system that can adapt year-round. This combination gives you insulation when you need it while still allowing for breathability when it is warmer. We hope this helps!
