Fast, Precise, and Built for Technical Terrains

I’ve been running with the Vertex Speed across a variety of terrains from steep alpine ridgelines to rocky switchbacks and rooty forest paths, and it’s clear this shoe was made for technical mountain trails and off trails. It offers an impressive blend of responsiveness and control, making it ideal for runners who like to move fast over challenging ground.
The low-profile midsole gives a great sense of contact with the terrain, which helps with confidence on uneven, rocky sections where precise foot placement matters. The outsole has a tacky, grippy feel and performs really well on dry rock, compact dirt, and technical descents, exactly the kind of environment where you don’t want to lose footing. Fit-wise, the Vertex Speed locks the foot in without pressure points. The heel stays secure, which is key when navigating steep or off-camber sections. The upper is lightweight and breathable but still durable enough to handle abrasion from rocks or brush on narrow trails. If you’re looking for a race-ready shoe that thrives on speed and technical precision the Vertex Speed is an excellent choice.

Ich liebe es, schnell und leicht in den Bergen unterwegs zu sein - auch in technisch anspruchsvollem Gelände. Der Vertex Speed ist der erste Schuh, mit dem ich mich auch bei leichten Klettereien extrem sicher fühle und trotzdem auch längere "laufbare" Passagen schnell überwinde. Ich bin Distanzen bis zu 50 Kilometern im Vertex Speed gelaufen, und das hat super funktioniert. Für viel längere Ultras fehlt ihm etwas die Dämpfung.
Hier sind ein paar Sachen, die mir besonders gut gefallen:
- Der Fuß hat einen unfassbaren Halt im Schuh. Durch die sockenähnliche Konstruktion gibt es kein Rutschen oder "Schwimmen" im Schuh.
- Die Schnürung gibt dem Fuß einen hervorragenden Halt und fixiert ihn fest im Schuh.
- Die "climbing zone" an der Fußspitze ist sehr gut geeignet, um im felsigen Gelände leichte Kletterpassagen schnell zu überwinden
- Die Garmasche hält kleine Steinchen und Kiesel verlässlich fern.
- Trotz der recht festen, steifen Sohle hat er ein angenehmes Laufgefühl und Abrollverhalten.
Lediglich auf sehr langen Distanzen würde ich mir etwas mehr Dämpfung wünschen. Aber hierfür gibt es ja noch andere Modelle.

Incredibly comfortable shoe!

Fantastic running and overall comfortable walking-around shoe! Almost feels like a part of my foot. Reminds me of the comfort of my distance-running track shoes (other brand that I won't name here :) from back in high school. Love these Vertex Speed shoes!

An Approach Shoe That Disappears on Your Harness

These shoes blew me away. They’re incredibly light, which makes a huge difference when clipped to the harness for long multi-pitch missions—you barely feel them. The Vibram sole is impressively sticky, giving tons of confidence on 5.easy terrain. If you size them snug, I’m sure they’d edge surprisingly well too.
I was initially concerned they’d run hot and leave my feet sweaty, but they’re way more breathable than expected. The upper is made of a mesh-like fabric that keeps things cool, though it does mean they're far from waterproof—something to be aware of. That said, traction in mud is excellent, which is a pleasant surprise for such a lightweight design.
Overall, these shoes strike a great balance between trail performance and climbing utility. Super impressed.

Incredibly versatile mountain running shoe

I absolutely love this shoe. It's come with me on long alpine days of running and scrambling. It feels so light and nimble while still offering ample protection. I also find it runs much better than most shoes in this category. I've done several ultra distance runs in this shoe and had no complaints. The matryx upper is pretty bomb proof too. I've logged over 350 miles in a pair and their is really no signs of significant wear.

Feels as good as it looks!

Shoe is super snug fit with the sock style, firm and rigid at first so advise is to break the shoe in gradually to give it chance to mould to your feet. Balances comfort and stability and has great traction with decent lugs for tricky terrain

My shoe!

I couldn't be happier with how this Vertex Speed has turned out. This was built with running, scrambling, and climbing around the mountains of BC in mind and that's exactly how I'll be using it! It's just as much at home on the trails around the Chief as it is on the summits of the Tantalus Range. Roger's Pass or the Tetons - this is an awesome fast and light shoe. It's thin near the toe for good smearing and climbing, and has a bit of cushion at the heel for descending 1500m back to valley bottom.
