Very impressed

This jacket will make almost any other mid layer in your closet redundant. Not the absolute lightest piece but the versatility and burly face fabric definitely makes up for it. Not to mention the amount of pockets you’re getting and a fleece lined interior. Keeps me comfortable in a very wide range of temps walking the dog and hiking, very excited to test it out touring and find its limits.

Fits perfectly, functional, and really warm!

This jacket/hoody is light and works great as a base or by itself. Pocket position is comfortable for resting hands in and carrying phones/GPS tracker. Also amazing how warm it stays for the size. I’ve found myself using this jacket often since I purchased, as opposed to other hoodies and base layers.

Exellent Jacket for high output

Very pleased with this jacket. If you wear this over a t shirt, you will be warm up to 50-55 deg with no output; but can get down to freezing with high output. Soft inner liner helps with warmth, but is thin enough that it can help you manage sweat. I use this as a raincoat in a drizzle, and the pockets are good enough for SAR usage in Washington. The black jacket is a beautiful color that is causal enough for PNW streetwear.

Really versatile mid layer. My favorite jacket.

Really happy with this jacket. I can use it as an outer layer while ski touring on cooler days, on approaches and ice climbs, and as a warm layer in summer. It breathes incredibly well so it stays dry while wearing it unless you are really working hard and dries fast. It is quite wind resistant and fits really nicely while moving or climbing. It has also proven very durable so far. Probably the jacket I am most likely to grab in any season over a base layer.
Q: Pros:
A: Versatile and durable
Q: Cons:
A: None so far.

Exceptionally Versatile Jacket

The Practitioner hoodie is the answer to the complaints I had with nearly every other soft shell jacket I have owned. The exterior fabric is tough. It’s relatively light and the most durable soft shell I have owned. It’s breathability rivals mid-layers with delicate fabric that’s prone to pilling and it’s warmth is not far behind. This is my go-to soft shell for skinning and and SAR on bluebird days. The orange provides great visibility. I may buy a second because it literally replaces some of my mid layer jackets. My one and only complaint is that the hood does not have a drawstring. Add that one feature and this is the most versatile soft shells available.
Q: Pros:
A: Durability, breathability
Q: Cons:
A: No drawstring on the hood
Q: Activity
A: Backcountry skiing, Skining, alpine SAR

Yes, I recommend this product.

outer fabric "resistance"

I bought this jacket in mid April 2022, I have been trying to purchase one for about two years, but it was never available when I was looking. I have quite a quiver of Arcteryx jackets, now having this one I don't see using my Gamma LT or MX any longer, I also don't think I will be using my Atom LT, unless as a mid layer in cold environments. I would like to see Arcteryx using this outer fabric on some mid layer insulating pieces. While many users prefer a lightweight fabric such as what is found on recent Atom LT, the outer fabric of my most recent Atom LT is in my opinion way too delicate, I would rather have a slightly heavier garment that such as this one that can survive some abuse. I will be buying another Practinioner AR hoody. As mentioned in other reviews, the fit falls inline with all my other Arcteryx jackets
Q: Pros:
A: outer fabric, breathability.
Q: Cons:
A: none so far
Q: Activity
A: search and rescue, hiking, snowboarding

Yes, I recommend this product.

Most useful Arcteryx jacket

Great jacket that can be used across a wide range of activities. Love the generous fit, compared to other Arc jackets. This jacket has easily replaced my Gamma Lt. Better fit, well placed large pockets, and as mentioned previously use over wide range. Went with a Large Dynasty (red). Would buy again in a second.
Q: Pros:
A: Use over wide range
Q: Cons:
A: None
Q: Activity
A: Casual, hiking, scrambling, mountaineering

Yes, I recommend this product.

Amazing ventilation

I bought this to use for backcountry skiing and and as a everyday jacket. I get very warm when hiking up, and this thing moves moisture out at an impressive rate. I put a shell over it when I summit, or if the weather is harsh. It keeps me perfectly warm under. It also dries fast. When it gets windy you can feel the air blowing through the fabric. This thing breathes. It is water resistant, but by no means waterproof. Great jacket for touring.
Q: Pros:
A: Amazing for its intended use.
Q: Activity
A: Backcountry skiing. Paragliding. Speedriding.

Strikes Perfect Balance Between Warm & Breathable

Now into a second season of using this jacket for ski patrolling and personal ski adventures, I am an enthusiastic fan. I highly recommend this for pros who spend all day out in the elements and want one layer they can put on, trust to handle a variety of conditions, and only (reluctantly) peel off at the end of the day. Fit is "normal" for Arc'teryx. I'm 6' and 220 pounds with a linebacker build and the jacket fits closely but with the ability to layer underneath if necessary. This thing moves sweat like a fan. Even on days when I collect sweat inside my shell, this stays dry and warm. At the same time, it holds heat well while stationary and sheds it well when working hard or moving. Fabric is more resistant to wear and tear than others like the Atom, at least thus far, giving me confidence in getting several seasons of use out of it. I highly recommend this for hard-working outdoor professionals.
Q: Pros:
A: Temp management, moisture managemnt
Q: Cons:
A: None so far
Q: Activity
A: Skiing

Yes, I recommend this product.

@concon, I ordered an XL and it has worked out well. The fitted nature means it doesn't wear like a trash bag, but it's got some stretch and I can still layer underneath it.

Must have layer

Works great as a midlayer or a soft shell for ski touring. Great heat retention but also breaths well when needed. At first didn't know what to think about the weird fuzzy layer inside but it's a keeper. Acts similar to Polartec's R1 fabric.

Versatile temp range

Initially I didn't believe how Polartec Alpha could perform across such a wide range of temperatures. Turns out my concerns were unfounded. Even a guy like me who runs hot finds that this jacket is comfortable in moderate output from (-7) to 0°C. At first I balked at paying so much for "fancy fleece;" but looking back, this seems like good value. The face fabric durability claims are overstated. I have snags all over and a bunch of fun tenacious tape patches all over. This also does not dry as fast as coreloft. The face fabric definitely cuts the wind better than most of the Atom line.
Q: Pros:
A: Vertatile temperature range, pocket
Q: Cons:
A: Face fabric
Q: Activity
A: Ski guiding

Yes, I recommend this product.

Not really.. This jacket is basically a light shell with fleece liner sewn in whereas Atom Lt is a synthetic insulation. This jacket is way more breathable, however I am not sure yet if it offers a similar thermal protection. I have had an Atom Lt for 10+years owning 3 of them and this jacket is FAR superior however a bit of a different purpose. Now having this one, I don't see using an Atom anymore other than perhaps as a mid layer. My favourite feature of this is the outer fabric, it's not an Alpha SV but its also not flimsy like the new versions of Atom LT.

The "go to" for any kit

Again and again the Arc'teryx team has produced another fantastic technical hoody/jacket. Firstly, they are so easy to deal with in terms of shipping, returns and customer service, it's like chatting gear with your pals at the local ski hill! The Practitioner AR Hoody is a great piece for any collection. It is great for fun and work. I use it for both and have found it to perform amazing in many environments. It's so breathable that you are never over heating, while keeping you warm during those outside activities. The extra denier is amazing and I feel the jacket is indestructible when it comes to abrasion resistance. The DWR coating is great for crappy weather and the double breast pockets are so key. They are great for quick access and easy storage for small medical or rescue items. It's a great standalone or layering piece. Great Jacket!

Solid piece

I use this jacket for search and rescue. The exterior is solid built and is standing up to wear well so far. The insulation is surprisingly warm for its weight and thickness. I do find that with the more durable shell material the jacket doesn't breathe as well as some others, but I'm ok sacrificing that in return for better longetivity on our sharp limestone rock. I find sizing pretty average. I'm 5'10" and 150lbs and the small fits well. Overall I'd recommend this product for it's durability.

Absolute must have piece of gear

I've owned this jacket for 2 months now and it simply NEVER stops surprising me. It's fit, comfort and warmth is nothing short of AMAZING. Pros: - Fit - true to size (6'3" and 180lbs. and a large fits perfect) - Hood (huge fan) - Zippers - Pocket layout. (The chest pockets are AWESOME) - Hood and neck adjustment (smooth and seamless) - Perfect amount of insulation - Moisture wicking Cons: - No functional issues ... wife pointed out that the red colour of this jacket doesn't go well with my red Ski Guide Jacket.

Fantastic active insulation!

I bought this about a month ago as a treat to myself... so glad I did! The combination of Arc'teryx quality and the warmth/breathability of Polartec Alpha is a winner. I've worn this mainly hiking and running so far, both on the flat and fast paced ascents, and it has lived up to all expectations. Excellent fit from Arc'teryx as usual. The outer is sufficiently windproof when stood still for a few minutes that you don't need to add layers, whilst the breathability when moving is second to none. Add a shell when stationary for a while and it will keep you warm. The lining wicks sweat very well and is much better designed than most insulated jackets with a nylon liner. I have never used a hood like it - somehow it just hugs your head perfectly and is super comfortable. The only thing I would have loved is thumb loops! Looking forward to testing this out on some rescues in the coming months.

Feature-filled active insulation piece

This is my go-to active insulation piece for guiding. The ease of adjustments & pockets that add storage without too much bulk make it perfect for outings where more functionality is needed. I also have the OR Ascentionist as well, which is better for more fast-and-light excursions & slightly more comfortable with the lack of backing fabric. The downside is that the Alpha insulation wicks moisture directly onto a base layer, which the Practicioner's jersey backing eliminates. it works well for its purpose, & styles well around town, for what it's worth. Like most Arc'teryx items I've worn, runs large. I'm 6'2", 175, and prefer size L, but could probably just about fit into a M
