Decent, but not without flaws

Bought this about a month ago, and was comfortable enough sitting in it in store. However, the back elastic could do with being about 3 inches more adjustable. The leg loops are constantly being pulled too high which is not unusable, but very uncomfortable at certain belay stances and after falls. It is a shame considering it would be such an easy fix for the manufacturing to make and takes nothing away from the safety. However, this will probably not apply to everyone, I'm 6'5 around 90kg with waist size of around 30-32. I also have pretty thunderous thighs, but the adjustable leg loops size great. Other features are satisfactory but not revolutionary, the thin waist and leg loop material does make things a little less sweaty, though not by much, and it is less comfortable than a padded harness. Was glad to see the gear loops sit quite symmetrically for me, which isn't always guaranteed with single buckle waist belts. This harness isn't going to hold back your climbing, but it also isn't going to suddenly make sending any easier. Conclusion: maybe avoid if you're tall and dummy thicc, but otherwise a good do-all harness.
Q: Pros:
A: Is a harness
Q: Cons:
A: Might fit bad if tall or thicc

Yes, I recommend this product.

My favorite harness but…

I got this harness a few months back and I absolutely loved it! It took me about two months until it was in stock. It’s extremely light and comfortable and the best color of harness. I only got to use it a month of my training until the leg strap started to fray. I sent it back to Arcteryx and they took around 3 weeks to approve it and instead of sending me a new one, they just sent me a voucher for the same price. I don’t know why the company wouldn’t just send a replacement. As soon as I got my voucher, the last harness in my size sold out. These things sell out in about 1-2 weeks so I knew I would have to wait. I asked when they might get one back in stock and the only answer I got was that they weren’t making any more for THIS SEASON. That was in march 2022, it is now June 2022(almost July) and they haven’t produced any more of this very popular harness. They have now started making the conceal harness (which I’m not at all interested in). I hope they start making this one again. Bottom line it’s a great harness, but can be a pain to get.

Great around harness for everything outside

Great harness for all kinds of outdoor climbing. Gear loops big enough for a double rack and harness is light/comfortable for alpine rock. Had mine for 2 years and the tie in points are getting a little fuzzy. I want to replace it but everywhere in the US seems out of stock for these harnesses. Any idea when we can see them again?

Forever waiting on cool colors

Been waiting for 3 years now for a good color on this harness, but they keep dishing out dark boring colors. All black, grey and now this sad shade of green. It's a great color for pants, but harnesses should come in at least one cool bright color for those who like a little happiness in their harnesses.

Amazing Harness

I worked for a while at an outdoor company and had the opportunity to test out many different harnesses. This one was by far my favorite and I ended up buying one for myself. It is surprisingly comfortable for not really having any padding because the straps are wide enough to support your weight without too much pressure. This allows for it to be lighter weight and more compactable to take up less space. On top of that, it is just a really good looking harness and I would definitely recommend.

Great harness. Especially for trad.

I’ve used BD harnesses prior. Got this Arc’Teryx harness after checking out a buddies. Love the gear loops. A lot bigger than BD’s, which really does great with trad. The shape focuses gear to a point on each loop, which I really like. The harness is light and bombproof. In BD, I wore a large and it fit with the strap mostly cinched. I got a large AR-395a and I have to cinch it all the way for it to fit just a little loose. Should have got the medium, which the website recommended.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Light, Great Features, Limited Fit Adjustments

Harness is light, packs down small, and the build quality seems great. More comfortable than most for hanging in. My only issue is that it's not tall enough. I'm 6' tall, 32" waist and the waist and leg loops fit pretty well. The issue is that webbing connecting the leg loops to the bottom tie-in point seem really short and can't be adjusted. The result is that when the waist and legs are properly adjusted they both pull on the belay loop causing the waist and leg loops to dig in. It's not that bad for a short gym session, but not great for a whole day. Arc'teryx recommends one "consider sizing up" if the harness isn't tall enough but the L starts at a 35" waist. I don't think I'm that much of an outlier in terms of body proportions. Seems a bit odd the M wouldn't be tall enough to fit comfortably. Really a bummer as otherwise it's a great piece of gear.

Everything I want in a harness, nothing I don't

I use this harness for all alpine activities, from rock climbing, ice climbing and ski mountaineering. It's light and low-bulk, making it a breeze to carry all day. The loops and waist belt are wide enough for some hangdog comfort and the gear loops provide ample storage for everything I need. The aluminum buckles are elegant and sturdy, and they stay in place, which is not always the case with some other brands I've used. This is a 5-star product.

All season all round machine

What a great harness! its lightweight, but very comfortable. It has ice clipper slots, so it can be used in winter and the gear loops are big enough for trad as well. but I have noticed that the fabric is not very durable against abrasion, and the elastic attaching the waist to the legs are not durable at all, during the first couple of climbs I have noticed that it has started to weaken and wear through, so I have replaced them with some elastic I brought off eBay. Overall great harness, but not durable and very expensive.

All Season Versatility!

I’ve worn harnesses from other major manufactures like Black Diamond that were uncomfortable, didn’t have adjustable leg loops, and thus were not at all versatile (definitely wasn’t what I was looking for). So, I needed something that was versatile and that I could wear on a two-day rock-climbing trip to Joshua Tree or a similar length trip ice climbing in Ouray. Besides being comfortable, it also had to have adjustable leg loops that work well with my layering system that I can climb all day in when at altitude, on a glacier, or ascending fixed lines. This harness has not disappointed. It’s got a number of features that I like to include four slots for ice clippers to comfortably hang your tools or ice screws from. It’s also got four gear loops for all my rock-climbing gear, and a rear haul loop (I use this loop to hang my Arcteryx C80 chalk bag from). Definitely my favorite climbing harness to date!

This thing is amazing.

This is my favorite harness by far. It's super comfy compared to other harness for hanging in (yes you will be uncomfortable after a while). It is not a big wall type of hanging harness though. It's low profile and light for how wide it is. It has massive gear loops that easily hold a double rack, draws, essentials, and depending on your size, shoes and a puffy. The larger the size, the larger the haul loop. My only con is that the sizing is funky for me (5'10'', 155 lbs, 30 inch waist). I had to get a size S to get my large biker thighs in it but I have to cinch the waist all the way if I'm wearing just a shirt. This causes the gear loops to sit differently on each side of my body. I have this problem with most single buckle harnesses though, and it goes away when a jacket or fleece are required. Still 5/5 stars.

Worth the price point

This harness is bomb dot com. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for an all around harness to do everything in. I ice climb, sport climb, and am planning on pick up trad climbing very soon. This harness fits the bill and does the job for it all. I'm a size 32 waist (sometimes 31, sometimes 33 depending on the product/brand) and the medium harness fits me perfectly. There's plenty of room for it to adjust around jackets and hardshell pants when I'm ice climbing as well. I have thicker (thicc-er?) legs too, and I haven't wished the leg loops to be bigger. The gear loops are by far my favorite of any harness I've used and observed. The plastic makes the loop rigid, but the webbing where it connects is loose allowing for great flex of the loops when climbing and letting your gear hang naturally. I also appreciate the "v" shape of the gear loops. I feel that it holds my draws in a specific formation and they slide down in a consistent manner. Only down side to this harness is that it doesn't have any sort of mesh or soft material to help it breath, but at the end of the day, if it's hot, and you're sweating, it's not going to matter too much.
Q: Activity
A: Climbing, sending, pulling in rock

Fantastic harness, incredibly comfortable, racks nicely. Literally, the most comfortable and yet slim harness I've ever used in 25+ years of climbing. My only issue is there's no loop to hook your chalk bag to your harness with a small carabiner and have the chalk bag sit flush with your tush.

Only harness I'll ever have

Started rocking climbing this year and decided to pickup some new gear and have always loved Arc'teryx. I use this atleast twice a week and durability is not a issue even with constant use. The adjustable leg loops are great to have a better fit and important when adding layers. The materal is fairly breathable so extended periods of use won't cause discomfort. I recently found out that Arc'teryx Leaf has a all black 395a so I will definitely pick that one up as well.

So, I bought this harness after having only used your run of the mill black diamond harness, which came to about 50$. It served me well inside the gym, but often it was uncomfortable or limited my range of motion. On top of that, when I started sport climbing I found that wearing quick draws and such would make it so that the harness would slowly loosen. However, with my 395a I haven’t come across any of these problems. This, on top of the greatly decreased weight, makes my climbing noticeably more comfortable.

Best all round harness I've used

For the person that wants to own one harness to do it all from Ice and glaciers to trad and alpine, this is that one harness. What originally drew me in was the ability to fully open the leg loops rather than stepping into them (ya still can) and the fit! I'm a 33" waist and often between sizes but the AR-395A fits me perfectly! The thin "padding" had me wary at first but the whole Warp Strength Technology really works and the harness is amazingly comfortable to hang in! Gear loops work as designed and slid the next piece to the front, I like the size of the haul loop for hanging a jacket and extra gear yet it can be hard to unclip wire gate carabiners from the thin webbing. All in all I love this harness, I don't think I've ever said that about one before either.

Golden Standard of Harnesses

Since upgrading to the AR-395a I've experienced much more comfort while belaying and climbing. The whole thing is very well designed. I'd recommend trying one on before purchasing, I am a 32-33 waist, which is a great range for the medium.

WOW! How Different From Other Harnesses!

Be prepared for a real culture shock if you go from almost any other brand of harness to the 395A! It's super light, folds compact, etc. Almost the opposite of everything you are used to in other harnesses. Then you put it on and immediately enjoy the comfortable fit and quick adjustments. I am not a big wall or expert climber, so I can't comment on it's ability to carry a rack or handle big whippers. I just know I like the comfort and lightweight performance for my climbing.

PS: If you don't like the "Tatsu" color, go for the LEAF (Law Enforcement, Armed Forces) All Black color layup. The All Black looks "ninja" and I get lots of complimentary remarks from the other Gym Rats.

Comfortable, Veratile

People may shy away from the price, but in my opinion the price is justified by how much use-to-comfort is gained out of this harness. The harness is easy to use and every feature is thoughtfully placed. Also, your life may depend on your harness. In that, the AR 395a is rugged enough with a solid build quality that adds a bit of mental insurance regarding my personal safety or to those around me.
