I purchased a pair of these boots specifically for a week long trip of alpine rock climbing and walking on glaciers/steep snow in the North Cascades. At first, I was bummed that there is not a women's specific version of this boot. I am typically a US Women's 7.5 in a street shoe and fit perfect in US Women's 7.5 for Arc'teryx approach shoes (Konseal, Acrux, Arakys). My foot has a slightly wider last (I like 102mm last for my ski boots so my foot is on the wider side). I purchased this boot in a US Men's 7/US Women's 8 size since there was not a half-size option in the smaller sizes of this boot. I figured I'd be wearing slightly thicker socks being on snow and could use the extra room and tie my boots tighter if needed. I took these boots on a single long day hike in advance to make sure they didn't destroy my feet. I think it could be valuable to offer better small sizing options for people with smaller feet than myself as I am fairly average for foot size but I know many female climbers who would not fit in this boot with current sizing offerings. They fit perfect out of the box for my foot! I wore slightly thicker mid-cushion merino wool socks and saw no hot spots or problems with the boots slipping or rubbing. On my week trip, I walked through many streams with full submersion of the boot for brief moments and my feet stayed 100% dry and did not have any water leaking into my socks. They dried quickly on the outside and I pulled insoles out at night to allow my sweat to evaporate from the boots. The lacing system stays put and is easy to tuck into your pant leg over the boot. These boots fit very well with crampons on, and they also have a shockingly great ability to edge on small holds on alpine rock. I was able to climb carefully and delicately with the boots, especially after a few days of getting used to the edging and learning to trust the boot/rubber. I was super impressed with the climbing capabilities of this boot and was able to make up to 5.10 moves with these boots on with full confidence and edge control (and even some mixed climbing on rock with crampons on!). Super happy with these boots. I don't walk on glaciers much but I will add these to the rotation for easier alpine climbs because of the well rounded capabilities of the boot on snow and rock. Thanks for making such incredible products, Arc team!

Redd, I would like to see you fix a broken eyelet ripped from the fabric out on the mountain. Also, how do you know it doesn’t affect stability and security of the boot? Why do you feel the need to post unqualified one sentence comments under every critical review?

Best boots I have ever owned!

I read most of the reviews and noticed folks complained about the boot being stiff and narrow..I have a very wide foot and narrow heel and the boot fits like a glove. The fit in my opinion is true to size. The boot is also well made and extremely light. The laces also lock so it's easy to lace and keep the snug. They were stiff for a couple weeks and loosened up nicely. Im my opinion they are the best all around boots I have owned. I get compliments all the time the red accents are awesome!

Great Boots for Summer Alpine

I used these boots on a few alpine routes this summer, I'm very stoked on those. They fit great, my feet stayed dry as I walked across streams and wet snow. the rubber is incredibly sticky and they worked surprisingly well with strap on ice climbing crampons on pure ice routes. I'm stoked on those.

Awesome!

I have had my eyes on these for sometime now, while not an avid “alpinist” or mountaineer.. I’ve wanted a more serious boot for when the time comes to bridge the gap from hiking/scrambling.. to more serious climbs. The boots are mega light, on par with the Salomon ultra 4s which are excellent but firm. They are stiff as meant to be, and provide ample support. Yes they are narrow, but the build and the quality is just there.. they are a fantastic looking and performing pair of boots and will no doubt serve for a long time to come. Wearing them in at the moment, already starting to loosen up a little and can’t wait to get out in them.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great lightweight mountaineering boot

I saw these come in and had to give them a try even though I have lots of life on other mountaineering boots. In short these are the best 3 season mountaineering boots I have had, these are my fourth pair of mountaineering boots from different manufactures that I have owned . I have been on three mountaineering trips now with these boots. All trips had long approaches, 15km ish. Boots are crazy light and comfortable, even with the long approaches. I would normally carry boots on approach and wear hiking shoes, not needed now. Boots walk well but are also super sticky on rock, fit semi automatic crampons great, and just the right stiffness which is great for alpine climbing. I was worried that the super fabric would not hold up to talus and scree. Fabric held up fine to long approach up and down climb through scree slopes. I absolutely love these boots. Now the down side. On my last trip to Cornel Foster on VI I noticed the front rand of my right boot was starting to peel off, this is a short section and would be no big deal , could be fixed at a cobbler but I contacted Arc and they are offering me a refund. I also did a water test and the boots have a leak in the right boot. All my goretex mountaineering boots have leaked after a few trips, not impressed with any goretex boot. I am going to take Arc on the warranty though they are out of my size for the foreseeable future. As soon as Arc gets boots in my size I will buy a new pair, they are that good and light. One improvement I would make is to have grab loops on the tongue and heel, would be way easier to pull on without much weight. I have seen others ask about insulation of these boots. Easy answer, no insulation, definitely a summer boot. When crossing snow, glaciers feet feel cool instantly even on hot days. I have also seen people complaining of how narrow these are. I did not find this at all. I have wide feet with high arch and fit was great. I gave 5 stars because I love these boots even though I have a warranty claim.
Q: Pros:
A: Light, comfortable, grippy, climb w
Q: Cons:

Narrow fitting - not breathable/waterproof

I bought these about a month ago and was very impressed out of the box with how lightweight yet stiff they felt. They are quite narrow fitting, I have average width feet (following a foot measurement in a local boot store) and found that I could only wear lightweight socks with these to be comfortable. I wore them on several treks on a recent holiday and they did break in slightly and comfort increased however I had to cross a few streams during one of the days and found that after being submerged (well below the top of the boot so that no water could have gotten in from the top) my socks felt wet. I also noticed that the outer 'super fabric' lost all breathability when wet and took a long time to dry out. The net result was that the boots became heavier due to retaining water and the feeling was similar to wearing plastic bags around my feet. I later tested the waterproofing at home and had my partner double check the feeling of the inside of the boot to make sure I was not imagining the moisture but we both definitely concluded that the boots are definitely not waterproof. Its a shame because I really wanted to love these boots and have loads of other absolutely fantastic Arcteryx gear. I will be returning these unfortunately and admit that I will revert to tried and tested boot manufacturers like Scarpa from now on.
Q: Pros:
A: Very lightweight yet stiff
Q: Cons:
A: Poor waterproofing/breathability

I wanted to buy these for scrambling. They seem like the ideal boots for that. But it seems like Arcteryx makes cool products only for men! These boots are not available in women's sizes. I wear size 7. So, why they are not available in this size? Or why do you list that size if you are not going to make them in size 7? Any answers, please?

Great for technical trekking with heavy packs

I brought the Acrux LT with me this summer on my 10 day trip to the northern part of Sweden for some technical trekking and light scrambling. On the trip they - as well as me - were exposed to very challenging terrain such as bogs, rocky and stony so-called paths, vertical scrambling and climbing, wading through wild rivers after several days of hard rain and much more. And they performed admirably. I also own the Acrux TR, which probably are more suited for technical trekking, but must admit that the LT being a higher boot with a (much) more stiff sole saved me several times from twisting my ankle on the 20 kilometer long day trips with a fully loaded 25 kg backpack.
Q: Pros:
A: Lightweight, stiff sole, high boot
Q: Cons:
A: Confusing sizing

Horrible

these are the best looking, most stylish, sexy, nauseatingly over priced status symbol I have ever owned. They are in 25 years of hiking the most uncomfortable thing I have ever put my feet into. They completely change the way you walk, it feels like you're wearing boards on the bottom of your feet. I don't know what yll were thinking. The only good thing about these is that they are nice to look at and people think you are cool.

Sounds like you wore mountaineering boots for the first time... They're that stiff so you can scramble, climb, and use crampons with them...

Great potential

In the old days I used to look for boots made from one piece of leather as seams and stitching were invariably weak points - hard to prevent leaking and where the boot would eventually come apart. Of course, one piece leather boots are heavy and not the most comfortable, and with goretex liners the leaking problem essentially resolved so more modern designs have taken over. However, since I discovered Superfabric a few years ago (first of Motocross boots) I've been watching out for boots that use one piece of this fabric and keep stitching to a minimum. The Acrux LT boot is what I was looking for. These boots are light! I have similar boots from other manufacturers but these boots are about 100 - 150 grams lighter - per boot! That means every time I take a step I have to lift 100 - 150 grams less weight. That is significant! The boots don't feel as substantial as other brands, but I could live with that. I normally take a size 41 in these types of boots, but 40 2/3 were not too short. Actually if I was just using them on steep or consequential ground they would be perfect. I imagine they would climb extremely well. There is just the slights flex in the sole that gives you a little spring to your step - almost like a blade runner if you know what I mean. However, my time in the mountains involves quite a bit of walking with only short sections of the more spicy steep ground where these boots would excel. After this glowing review I am sorry to report that I will be returning the boots. They are just too narrow for my feet. Like rock shoed, this could be an advantage which climbing, but would be uncomfortable for more normal use. Also I am afraid that such a close fit would inhibit blood circulation to my feet making them cold. I would say there is about a 30% chance that these boots could be amazingly good, but for my feet at least I think there is a 70% chance that they would not work out. So... I'm returning them. If you have narrow feet these are certainly with checking out!
