Light weight versatility

I've had a few of these over the last 6 years and the most recent update is well worth it. The rollable hood is great for bike commuting as the hood doesn't flap in the wind. The light weight insulation keeps me just warm enough when I need it on a hike. Great versatile jacket for those slightly brisk summer day!

Great piece for layering or standalone in cool temps. Pockets are ideally designed. Softest synthetic layer I've tried. Feels like a well broken in hoody on day one. The hood is gigantic for a layering piece. I could easily get it over my largest helmet. I'm accustomed to this type of hood fit from a gore tex shell, not an insulation layer.

mid layer

My favourite mid-layer. This layer is functional in a wide range of temperatures due to its breathability. It can be easily paired with different base layers for comfortable running in the winter or make a great ski touring layer for going up or down.

My new everyday item

This hoody / jacket went from being something that I never knew about, to never leaving my side. Living in the ever-changing climate of the Bay Area, this hoody covers me in all conditions... if it is a cold, windy evening it keeps me warm... or if it's a calm, sunny day it doesn't feel like too much. I love this jacket and it stays by my side forever now.

Terrible Quality

I purchased this jacket directly from Arc'teryx last month and wore it for less than 10 days when the seams on both cuffs/sleeves started to fall apart, causing separation of the fabric on the inside. This is my second Atom SL. The first one lasted 5 years of abuse. Now, it's only a matter of time before the entire cuff falls apart on its replacement. Instead of offering to replace the jacket considering it had just been purchased, Arc'teryx offered to repair the jacket for me but warned of extenuating wait times for the repaired product due to COVID. I appreciate the effort to repair the jacket and keep it out of a landfill, but at the same time, given how much their products cost, they seem to be falling well short of standing behind them especially for almost brand new products. They used to stand behind their products, which made the high cost tolerable since you knew their customer care backed it up. Not so much anymore. Are we to accept that paying for their gear means you buy it, it immediately falls apart, and you then have to wait weeks/months for the repair process to get your NEW jacket back? No thanks - I will instead go to their competitors that do happily stand behind their products.

Looks like you got an older version of Are you sure this is Atom SL? Looks very different from I bought from store yesterday. The cuffs are redesigned without seams and the materials is better compared to the photos above.

This is the best jacket for the cold days in summer during your hike or during the winter when you do intense activities. My favourite from Arcteryx. you can add a warm jacket under and a shell over if your want a great warner kit. Medium for me 5.8f and 170lbs

Teribal quality of clothes. I bought jacket 3 months ago and after 1st wash pilling on jacket. When I complete to customer service they saying it's very common issues I don't have to worry about it

Best light jacket ever. Period!

I bought the SL hoody from the Mall of America store and instantly it became my favourite to go jacket.You can wear it in summer, fall and even in early winter. I was looking for a lightweight jacket for running in the trail and in general to wear throughout the year and this is it. I have bought 3 more for my brother and friends. Highly recommed it

Perfect Lightweight Warmth Layer

I bought this last year and it quickly became my go to active warmth layer. More breathable then the Atom LT when you're active, but without the fleece side panels that let in cold, so a better balance of warmth when you need it. Love the outer fabric, strong but also soft.

Looks great but very poor quality

As much as I like the look and fit of the jacket (it looks amazing) the quality is really bad. I purchased this last summer at a local shop and literally the second time I was wearing this it got damaged. Simply by carrying a backpack. The local shop wasn’t very helpful so I still have it. Just wanted to show how easily this gets damaged. Not something I would recommend to anyone

Most versatile jacket I own

Love it as a mid layer on a cold day when going for a serious hike. Love it as an extra layer for warmth under a thicker winter coat that doesn't block wind well. Love it as a cool day jacket.

I've had this jacket for a few months now and absolutely love it. Fantastic fit (I'm 5'9 145lbs got a small) and incredibly versatile. It works well as a stand alone piece in early fall and can easily transition into a layer system when the weather changes.

Really great 3 season jacket

I already own the Atom LT which is really a wonderful jacket for layering while skiing. The Atom SL has no insulation in the arms and light weight material under the arms. It is cut slightly closer to the body than the LT but fits me perfectly. I really love this jacket. Just a warning I have a dog who loves to jump. This material is not overly durable by design and will rip easily.

Great early spring&fall jacket

I use this jacket mainly for everyday wear and cycling in the city early spring and fall. It's nice for mild output activities, just for some wind protection and a little bit of extra insulation. Material is very nice and a small size fits me perfectly over a fleece with my skinny frame, could be just an inch longer. Cobalt sun is amazing colour, looks very sleek. I have used it for some hiking, running, mountaineering, but it is either too cold or not breathable enough for such activities and it is too heavy/bulky for the warmth it offers.

good for cycling

Multipurpose jacket

This is a jacket which I can wear all the time except the hot days in Summer. It resists rain slightly and wind. It is perfect for me when I do long running in wet cold and windy days in Winter. The other jackets are too thick for me when I run longer than 20 Minutes. The slim cut suits both sport and urban life. Strongly recommended!

Perfect weight for shoulder season

I've got both the Atom SL Hoody and the Anorak version. It's definitely one of my go-to pieces for a variety of reasons - namely the versatility. With the breathable fleece side panels, it performs surprisingly well in high output activities like trail running or hiking on cooler days. DWR has performed well for me, although I wouldn't want to be caught in the Atom in a full-on rainstorm. The zone insulation in the body is perfect for me - I don't need insulation in the arms until it's really cold, so this works for me down to maybe mid 40s F. With the light weight and packable nature of this guy, no reason not to toss it in the pack on a warmer day to pull out in case temps drop.

Nicht für Rucksäcke geeignet

Ich kann mich dem Vorrednern hier nur anschließen. Eine 200 Euro teure Outdoorjacke, die nach einmaligem Tragen eines Rucksacks sich am Rücken total abreibt ist einfach nur entäuschend. Noch dazu, wenn es vorab in keinster Weise in den Spezifikationen beschrieben wird. Was mich aber viel mehr ärgert ist die Antwort des Kundenservices, dass die SL eine Notfalljacke ist die nicht für diesen Gebrauch ausgelegt ist. Heißt also, im Notfall hat man eine Jacke aber seinen Rucksack muss man dann in der Hand tragen. Das macht natürlich Sinn. Schade, dass ich auf der Jacke nun Sitzen bleibe. Ich bin sehr enttäuscht

Good for biking actually

I bike alot in NYC, you'll go from riding on a hot street, u leave it open, then into the city, where it's shady and cool and all you do is zip it up. Very packable, it offers good breathability, I would wear this in 70-50 degree weather, it's not a windshell, would wear another layer if it is windy.

BEWARE:Easily damaged/ripped

Have this jacket and it’s brilliant for April/September in the UK and wore it quite a lot. Downside is it’s lack of durability. Ended up with a hole in the back simply from day to day use ( occasionally carrying backpack) Arc’teryx wouldn’t cover this by warranty and offered a repair using different material for £40. Declined as it wouldn’t look right.I would look for another similar garment form different manufacturer as the material is too fragile. Spoke to customer services re thoughts and they weren’t that helpful which is unlike them.

I've been wearing this jacket for a few weeks now and it's by far the highest quality jacket I've ever owned. I like how breathable and comfortable it is, it's good for all day wear and in all climates. I really like the waterproof / resistant features of the fabric too

Nicht geeignet für Rucksack

Habe mir die Jacke Ende Juni gekauft. Nach dem ersten Einsatz mit Rucksack (Ortovox Traverse 30) haben sich Abriebstellen im Bereich des Beckengurt gezeigt. Nach langem hin und her Jacke gegen Kaufpreis Erstattung zurück gegeben. Da die Jacke ansonsten echt super ist habe ich mir eine neue bestellt. Dachte auch die erste war eine „Montagsproduktion“. Leider war dies eine Fehleinschätzung. Auch bei der zweiten Jacke hat sich nach dem ersten Einsatz ein massiver Abrieb im besagten Bereich eingestellt. Interesting experience. I just spent 12 days in Iceland hiking the Laugavegur Trail, and doing many other day hikes (totaling over 100 miles). I mostly wore my Atom SL and carried an Ortovox Traverse 20L Daypack. I didn't experience any chafing or breakdown in material where the pack made contact with the jacket on the shoulders or waist area. I did get a small snag on one of the arms, but I simply cut the thread off and all seems well. I found the jacket incredibly breathable and perfect for high output activities.

Body length is way too long

Great jacket except the front and back length is like absurdly long, it's like 2.5 inches longer than my Atom LT. Super frustrating.

In a base size medium the Atom SL Hoody and Atom LT Hoody will come in at the same 60 cm front length and 72.5 cm back length, so it is odd your hoodies have different sizing. The piece I didn't know I was missing

For lighter insulation, I have a lot of fleeces to get me through various activities. I was soon due to travel and I had heard a lot of great things about the Atom SL so I added one to my quiver and have been quite happy with it. It's fairly packable, light, comfortable, and has a style that can cross over well to urban-esque environments when I'm not hiking or travelling. I haven't had it long enough to test the durability, but if it's anything like my Atom LT I'm sure it will hold up well. The face fabric has a nice wind resistance to it, and the warmth-to-weight ratio is perfect for carrying in a pack on a day hike where summit temperatures will be lower, or on trains and planes where the AC is blasting.

Buena prenda, pero...

No dispone de bolsillo interior. Se puede guardar en su propio bolsillo pero la cremallera queda atrapada; otros modelos de la marca sí que disponen de cremallera reversible (ver la foto). Para cerrar un poco el puño, que era demasiado grande, lo he tenido que coser: no tiene velcro o corchetes como sí tienen otros modelos de la marca. Un poco decepcionado.
